Chapter 215: Pain

Half an hour.

A full half hour.

When Lin Yu finally braced herself against the wall and stood up from the toilet, her legs were as limp as two overcooked noodles.

Cold sweat had soaked through the thin sailor uniform, clinging damply to her back.

That clammy, alternating hot-and-cold sensation made her feel like a dead fish freshly hauled out of the sea.

“Urgh—”

She had barely taken a step when a churning wave of nausea surged up again.

She collapsed back toward the toilet and retched dryly.

Nothing came out.

Only the sour taste of bile filled her mouth, choking her until tears streamed down her face.

By the time she staggered back to the bedroom, she felt as if half her life had already slipped away.

Her lips were bloodless.

Her whole body felt boneless as she fell stiffly onto the bed.

“Mm…”

The moment she lay down, the drilling agony in her lower abdomen made her curl up tightly.

She clutched her stomach desperately, forehead pressed into the bedsheets as cold sweat slid down her temples.

“Uu… uu…”

Broken sobs spilled uncontrollably from her throat.

She didn’t want to cry.

She simply couldn’t hold it back.

This body…

It was too fragile.

Just as the pain blurred her consciousness, something warm and soft suddenly burrowed under the blanket.

“Hm?”

Dazed, she reached out and touched a tuft of soft fur.

The little creature seemed to sense her suffering.

Instead of dodging away theatrically as usual, it obediently curled into a ball and pressed itself against her lower abdomen.

A faint but steady warmth seeped through.

Like a small heating pad, it eased a fraction of the bone-deep chill.

“Xiao Bai…?”

She murmured weakly, fingers unconsciously stroking the soft fluff.

Whatever…

Whoever it was…

Her consciousness dimmed.

Darkness flooded in like a rising tide, swallowing her whole.

When she woke again, it was completely dark outside.

The room was deathly silent except for the faint purring sound of Xiao Bai resting on her stomach.

“Ugh…”

She tried to move, only to find her bones aching as if someone had dismantled and reassembled them incorrectly.

Especially her lower back—it felt broken.

And…

That warm, damp sensation beneath her was unmistakably there again.

Did it… start flowing again?

A chill of fear crawled up her spine.

What was happening?

She had only transformed.
Only taken the medicine.

Why had it turned into this?

“S… save…”

Instinct for survival pushed her trembling hand outward.

In the dark, she groped blindly until her fingers found the contract bracelet on the bedside table.

Shaking, she opened the contact list and dialed Dr. Reed.

“Beep—click.”

The call connected quickly.

“Oh?
You finally decided to call me?”

Dr. Reed’s elegant, languid voice drifted through the receiver, calm as if she had expected this.

“A bit later than I imagined, Mr. Lin…
Or perhaps I should say, Miss Lin now?”

Hearing that voice shattered the last of Lin Yu’s mental defenses.

“D… Doctor…”

Her voice was hoarse and broken, thick with sobs.

“Help… help me…”

“I’m bleeding… so much blood…”

“It hurts… my stomach hurts… am I going to die…?”

“Calm down.
You’re not dying.”

“I told you.
This is a normal manifestation of spiritual energy overflow.
It proves the drug is working.”

“But… but…”

She sucked in cold breaths between tears.

“There’s so much blood…
It won’t stop…”

“That place keeps bleeding… I’m scared…”

Silence lingered briefly on the other end.

Then came Dr. Reed’s helpless sigh, as though addressing a particularly slow student.

“Sigh… Miss Lin, perhaps it will be more intuitive if I put it this way.
Do you know… what menstruation is?”

“M… menstruation?”

Lin Yu’s mind buzzed violently.

What did that have to do with her?

She wasn’t a woman!
How could she possibly—

“And even a phase-spirit body doesn’t…”

Her words choked off mid-sentence.

She lowered her gaze to her petite, delicate body.

An absurd thought surfaced.

“N… no way.
Are you saying that right now I…”

“According to my estimates, this physiological expression of ‘spiritual overflow’ will indeed closely resemble female menstruation.”

Dr. Reed’s tone was clinically calm.

“The cyclical pain, the pattern of bleeding, even the accompanying emotional fluctuations…
Yes.
Almost identical.”

“W… why didn’t you say that earlier?!”

Lin Yu’s voice cracked in fury.

“Shouldn’t this kind of life-threatening side effect be written in bold red letters in the instructions?!”

“Earlier?
If I had told you earlier, would you have agreed to the treatment?”

Dr. Reed chuckled softly.

“Relax.
The severe pain is worst in the first two days.
Once your body adapts, it will be much more manageable.
Trust in a woman’s resilience, Miss Lin.”

“And besides…
Don’t you think this is a perfect opportunity?”

“Perhaps this pain will help you break through that psychological barrier and truly… understand this body.”

Lin Yu opened her mouth to curse.

But no sound came.

The moment her emotions spiked, it felt like someone was boxing inside her abdomen.

“Mm—!”

The stabbing pain forced her into instant submission.

“Alright.
I have important data to process, so I won’t chat any longer.”

Dr. Reed’s voice remained light.

“Remember to prepare some sanitary pads and drink more warm water.
If anything unusual happens tomorrow—excessive flow, fainting—report to me.”

“Beep—”

The line went dead.

Listening to the merciless busy tone, Lin Yu stared blankly at the ceiling.

Did she regret it?

Of course she did.

If she had known the so-called miracle drug meant personally experiencing an aunt’s visit—

She definitely…

Definitely wouldn’t have agreed so readily.

But now…

Other than enduring it, there seemed to be no choice.

“Mm…”

She curled up again, gaze falling on the dark red stain on the sheets.

Her stomach churned.

So disgusting…

So disgusting.

Did women really suffer through this every month?

She used to think girls asking for leave were just slacking off…

Now it seemed—

That was genuinely hardcore.

Forget it…

She forced herself to open a food delivery app with trembling fingers.

“Need to buy… those… pads…”

She typed the keyword and searched.

The next second, the overwhelming variety on screen left her stunned.

Day use?

Night use?

Extra-long night use?

Wings?

Three-dimensional guards?

Liquid pads?

Cotton soft?
Mesh surface?
Sleep pants?

What the hell were all these?!

The classification was more complicated than graphics card models!

Dizzy, she had no idea what to choose.

Out of pure poverty instinct, she claimed several discount coupons first.

Then, without thinking further, she shut her eyes and added one of everything into the cart.

Whatever.
As long as it stopped the bleeding.

To get them faster, she even gritted her teeth and paid twenty extra yuan for premium express delivery.

“Ah…”

The sinking pain struck again.

Shivering, she hauled herself up and shuffled toward the bathroom like a terminal patient.

This time, she was slightly clearer-headed.

The pain was a little less intense.

But that clarity made the shame worse.

Sitting on the toilet, she could clearly feel that the so-called “spiritual energy” was leaving her body—mixed with blood clots.

During past transformations, she still subconsciously thought of herself as a man in a costume.

She had never truly explored this body.

But now…

The pain from within, the uncontrollable biological process—

It left her dazed.

So dazed that she almost felt…

Like she really had become a girl.

“Ugh… ah…”

“Ding-ding—”

Her bracelet rang.

The express courier.

“H… hello…”

Her voice was weak as a mosquito’s hum.

“Okay… I understand… please… leave it at the door…
Thank you…”

She hung up, wiped herself clumsily, layered thick tissues into her underwear, and pulled it back on.

One step.
Two steps.

She braced against the wall, trembling toward the entrance.

Finally, she reached the door.

Her hand stretched toward the handle—toward her life-saving straw—

“Ding-dong—”

The doorbell rang.

“Huh?”

She blinked in confusion.

Why was the bell ringing?

Hadn’t she told the courier to leave it outside?

Did he need to verify something?
Or… deliver to the wrong address?

Frowning slightly, she leaned toward the peephole and squinted outside.

The next second—

Her pupils shrank.
Her heart skipped violently.

Because the person standing outside the door…

Was not the delivery courier.
