Chapter 50: The Magic Robe and Ambush at the Exit

Song Zhiyou opened the storage pouch of that evil cultivator. The first thing she saw was over a hundred spirit stones.

These spirit stones seemed different from the ones she had used before.

She took one out and found it was crystal clear, without any impurities inside.

The moment she held it, she could feel the dense spiritual energy radiating from it, a hundred times richer than usual.

Song Zhiyou had never seen such spirit stones, but she had read about them in novels.

In this world, spirit stones were strictly classified into lower grade, middle grade, and upper grade.

But ordinary people only ever had lower grade stones at most.

Middle grade stones were already quite rare.

The normal exchange rate was one hundred to one.

But in reality, it was hard to trade a hundred lower grade stones for a single middle grade one.

Song Zhiyou guessed that the stones in the black-robed evil cultivator’s pouch were middle grade.

She set them aside for now and continued searching.

Next to the spirit stones were a bunch of miscellaneous bills.

Underneath the bills was the emblem of the Hidden Market.

It seemed these bills could be taken to the Hidden Market to exchange for the resources listed on them.

Song Zhiyou glanced at them briefly, then stuffed them back into the bottom of the pouch.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want the resources, but survival came first.

Alongside those were some demon pills, spirit plants, and elixirs, plus a piece of black, dull-looking wood.

Song Zhiyou took out the elixirs, then her eyes fell on a brand new black robe in the pouch.

This robe seemed to be the evil cultivator’s spare. It was neatly folded inside.

She pulled it out and gave it a shake.

The robe was huge. It could wrap Song Zhiyou up entirely. If she wore it over her white robe, she wouldn’t have to worry about standing out at night and being discovered.

But…

This robe seemed a bit too big.

That evil cultivator was an adult, after all, while Song Zhiyou was only a little over ten years old.

If she put it on, it would probably drag on the ground, right?

If so, it wouldn’t be very convenient.

Song Zhiyou thought for a moment, then slipped the robe on. She took out her short sword and held it under the robe, ready to cut it down.

But before she could act, the robe automatically shrank to fit her.

Song Zhiyou blinked, then looked at the robe again.

It was soft yet tough, like silk or some other material. It seemed to be a magic tool that could freely adjust its size.

Nice.

After trying it once, she put the robe away again.

She stepped out of the corner and pulled Song Qingyao aside.

“Xiao Qi, let me test you. What are these elixirs?”

Song Qingyao stared wide-eyed at the three or four bottles of elixirs Song Zhiyou had magically produced in her hand.

“Song Xiao Liu, you don’t recognize these elixirs, do you?”

“No, I’m just testing you.”

“You’re lying. You don’t know them!”

Song Zhiyou got anxious. “I think you’re the one who doesn’t know, that’s why you’ve been silent, right?”

Song Qingyao got anxious too. She opened the bottles and rattled off the names of all the elixirs inside.

Then she looked up at Song Zhiyou, very defiantly.

But Song Zhiyou just chuckled, put away the elixirs, and patted her shoulder.

“Not bad, not bad. You didn’t get a single one wrong, Xiao Qi.”

Song Qingyao didn’t feel good about being praised. Instead, she felt weird about it.

“Stay here with the elder. I’m going out to take a look.”

At those words, Song Qingyao’s attention was immediately caught. She looked at Song Zhiyou with some concern.

“Where are you going? Weren’t there evil cultivators on both routes we chose earlier?”

“It’s fine. I’ll just check the situation. I won’t confront them head-on.”

Only then did Song Qingyao relax a little.

“Be careful.”

“You too.”

After leaving the dry branch valley, Song Zhiyou activated the array disk on her body.

At the same time, she put her white robe and the black robe back on.

The sky was already faintly bright, but the elders outside still hadn’t reacted.

She didn’t know if they hadn’t responded yet, or if they had but she just hadn’t run into them.

Song Zhiyou didn’t think about it further.

She headed straight toward the predetermined direction.

Along the way, she also quickly made paper.

Each time she produced a sheet, she stuck it onto the badly damaged parts of her white robe.

When her spiritual power was low, she tore off a damaged sheet to recover.

She walked while making paper. Her spiritual power stayed full, but she gained several new sheets of white paper.

Her originally tattered white robe was upgraded to a patched, tattered white robe.

After about two quarters of an hour, Song Zhiyou was very close to the exit.

She hid behind cover and moved forward even more cautiously.

From her position, she could faintly see the exit.

But she hadn’t seen the black-robed evil cultivator who had run this way earlier.

Could he have gone another direction?

Song Zhiyou frowned slightly.

Just then, two figures quickly ran from another direction.

Judging by their heights and matching clothes, they seemed to be two candidates from the Lin family.

Song Zhiyou remembered them. The people from that family seemed to have some grudge against her, always looking at her with strange eyes.

They were running very fast, as if a demon was chasing them.

When they saw the exit so close, both of them showed joy and sped up.

Seeing them so careless, Song Zhiyou’s frown deepened.

The next second, a black-robed figure suddenly appeared in front of them, blocking their way.

Song Zhiyou felt a chill down her back.

Sure enough, the evil cultivator had been hiding in the shadows, waiting for someone to try to leave the valley.

When the two saw the evil cultivator appear in front of them, they screamed and turned to run.

But it was too late.

The evil cultivator appeared again on their escape path, toying with them like a cat with mice.

The two changed direction, but each time the evil cultivator blocked them, adding new wounds.

The evil cultivator was also furious. Having lost all his belongings and his magic tool, he was in a foul mood. These two candidates were the perfect outlet.

In no time, the two were covered in wounds, their mental defenses almost shattered.

One of them, panicking, ran straight toward Song Zhiyou’s hiding spot.
