Chapter 52: The Imposter

The black-robed evil cultivator, Xie Yue, paused.

Then she turned back with a strange expression, her eyes resting calmly on the black-robed figure who wasn’t even half her height.

“What are you doing here, little ghost?”

The little ghost’s tone was impatient and arrogant. “Where I go is none of your business. But you, why are you here?”

Xie Yue’s gaze grew more peculiar, but she showed nothing on her face.

She cooled her voice. “If you insist on speaking that way, my affairs don’t concern you either. There’s no need for us to continue this conversation.”

Hearing this, the little ghost snorted. “The boss sent me to handle some business.”

Xie Yue’s eyes flickered as she looked at him again. “What about Big Ghost? Didn’t he come with you?”

The little ghost frowned. “What does that have to do with you? You still haven’t told me what you’re doing here.”

Xie Yue casually shook her hand, revealing the candidate who had already fainted in her grip.

“He tried to escape and tip someone off. I caught him.”

Hearing this, the little ghost’s eyes narrowed under his black robe.

She had chased this little brat, who hadn’t even reached Foundation Establishment, all the way here from who knows where? But it wasn’t his business.

He stepped forward again. “Move aside. I have things to do for the boss.”

“What things?”

“Xie Yue, you dare question the boss’s matters? I think you’re tired of living!” the little ghost warned coldly.

Xie Yue lowered her head and stepped aside.

The little ghost snorted, turned, and walked toward the entrance of the mountain path.

But just as he was about to enter, a fierce attack came from behind.

He hadn’t expected anyone to attack him at that moment and was caught off guard, taking a hit to his back.

He retreated a few steps, his voice full of disbelief.

“Xie Yue, you dared to ambush me? Have you lost your mind?”

Xie Yue sneered. “Still pretending? Let’s see who’s really under that black robe!”

As she spoke, she made hand seals, and streams of eerie black qi surged toward the little ghost.

Seeing that Xie Yue meant to fight him, anger welled up inside him.

“Xie Yue, you’re asking for death!”

The little ghost snorted and turned back to his original form.

He taunted arrogantly, a massive bone blade appearing in his hand as he advanced step by step toward Xie Yue.

Xie Yue hurriedly said, “Someone just impersonated you. I thought you were a fake, so I attacked.”

“Otherwise, do you think I have no way to deal with you? That I’d just stand here and take your attacks without fighting back?”

Just now, she had confirmed his identity when he used his signature move.

Voices and robes could be faked, but the little ghost’s unique technique couldn’t be imitated by outsiders.

The little ghost looked at her, stopping hesitantly.

“Really?”

Indeed, Xie Yue hadn’t really attacked him; she had only blocked his bone spikes.

Thinking about her strange behavior earlier, he was inclined to believe her.

“Why would I lie to you?” Xie Yue said coldly, wiping the blood from her lips with a dark expression.

The little ghost believed her, and his expression darkened.

“Little ghost, instead of blaming me for not recognizing him, you should think about when you leaked that information.”

His face grew uglier, but he didn’t mock her further.

“Which way did he go? I’ll send him on his way right now.”

Xie Yue’s eyes flickered. “Don’t trouble yourself. I’ll deal with him.”

The little ghost cast a suspicious look at her. “You?”

“Aren’t you supposed to complete the boss’s task? Besides…”

Xie Yue gritted her teeth in genuine anger.

“He toyed with me. I’ll catch him myself, tear his tendons, break his bones, and make him regret ever deceiving me.”

Hearing this, the little ghost set aside all doubts.

But he didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he looked at the candidate in Xie Yue’s hand.

“Give me that one. I have use for him.”

Though the candidate was useless to him and would die anyway, Xie Yue’s face turned cold at his commanding tone.

But to avoid complications, she tossed the unconscious candidate at his feet.

“Take it.”

The little ghost chuckled, grabbed the person by the leg, and dragged him into the mountain path.

Xie Yue was right: his priority now was completing the boss’s mission.

Otherwise, he would have loved to personally kill that little thief who dared steal his identity.

Of course, if he happened to run into the thief inside the mountain path, killing him would be easy enough.

Once the little ghost had gone inside, Xie Yue’s expression darkened.

She definitely couldn’t let him kill that damned impersonator.

She hadn’t forgotten that her own magical artifacts and storage pouch were still in that bastard’s hands.
