Join the ServerEarlier, when the Green Edge Wolves surrounded them, Song Zhiyou had instructed Song Qingyao to hide in the shadows and wait for the right moment.
Now that Song Zhiyou was injured and the Green Edge Wolf leader had let its guard down, it was Song Qingyao’s best chance.
Song Qingyao thrust her blade deeper, then looked up with concern.
“Song Zhiyou, are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Watch out!”
“I will!”
The Green Edge Wolf, now aware of the attack, whirled around in fury.
Its muscles tensed as it flicked its tail, trying to throw Song Qingyao off.
But Song Qingyao seized the opportunity and grabbed the wolf’s tail firmly.
Song Zhiyou had said she was the greatest nemesis of the Hidden Wing Bees.
But she didn’t want to be just that.
She channeled all her energy, unleashing a surge of spiritual power.
A bone-chilling cold flowed from Song Qingyao’s palms into the wolf’s tail.
In an instant, the tail froze solid.
Desperate to escape the icy torment, the wolf spun and slammed into Song Qingyao.
The immense force sent her flying, but at the same time, the Green Edge Wolf leader’s tail shattered completely.
It lost its balance and crashed to the ground.
Yet the next second, a terrifying pressure exploded from the wolf. It forced itself upright and charged at Song Qingyao.
One step, two steps. Its speed increased.
Song Qingyao had no spiritual power left. She lay limp on the ground, barely able to move.
Just as the wolf was about to reach her, a short sword shot in.
This time, it was Song Zhiyou.
The Green Edge Wolf, already bloodshot, refocused on her. It gathered a wind blade and hurled it at Song Zhiyou.
Song Zhiyou coughed up blood, her chest aching, but her eyes grew colder.
She staggered back, the sword trembling in her hand.
She pulled a pill bottle from her storage pouch and tried to shake out a pill with shaking hands.
But the Green Edge Wolf leader wouldn’t give her that chance. It lunged like a blur.
The bottle fell and shattered on the ground.
Song Zhiyou’s face changed. “No!”
The wolf dove for the bottle.
Without hesitation, it crushed the bottle and swallowed the pills.
Song Zhiyou’s lips curved slightly, and her arm stopped trembling.
Thank you for trusting me.
The next second, the victorious wolf let out a terrified howl.
Its healed wounds split open, and new, gruesome injuries appeared across its flesh.
Song Zhiyou didn’t hesitate. She dashed forward, striking with her sword and a dizzying technique aimed at the throat.
The wolf tried to dodge, but the combined effect of the worsening pill and Song Qingyao’s debuff slowed its movements. It couldn’t evade.
This strike used every ounce of Song Zhiyou’s strength and spiritual power.
The blade sank into flesh. Warm blood sprayed her face.
The wolf gave a final roar and collapsed.
With the leader dead, the already fervent candidates grew even more excited, while the wolves’ morale plummeted.
Soon, the survivors scattered or died. The pack was utterly defeated.
Song Zhiyou sat on the ground, gasping.
She stumbled to Song Qingyao’s side and checked her breathing.
It was faint, cold, with a hint of death.
But she was still alive.
With trembling hands, Song Zhiyou took a pill from her pouch.
It slipped and fell to the ground.
This time, it wasn’t an act. Her hands were really unsteady.
But it didn’t matter.
Carefully, she picked up the pill, blew on it, and put it into Song Qingyao’s mouth.
After all, she wasn’t the one eating it.
Song Qingyao opened her eyes weakly, her voice barely a whisper. “Song Xiao Liu, did you… give me a pill you picked off the ground?”
“No, you misssaw.”
“You did give me a pill from the ground!”
Expressionless, Song Zhiyou covered Song Qingyao’s mouth and face with a cloth, then turned to dig out the Green Edge Wolf leader’s demon core.
She also collected its essence blood.
The claws seemed fine too, extremely sharp, possibly attachable to her glove.
Song Zhiyou set to work, using her short sword to cut off the wolf’s claws.
The other candidates were also injured, taking pills to recover.
But when they saw Song Zhiyou’s actions, they belatedly remembered they were supposed to take the demon cores.
So they struggled to their feet and went to collect the cores.
Soon, the scene was bustling.
Watching this, Song Zhiyou suddenly felt uneasy.
The Green Edge Wolf leader might have misjudged her and Song Qingyao’s combat strength.
But…
The wolves clearly had intelligence. After the elders appeared multiple times, the wolves’ pace had slowed.
That slowness wasn’t due to human cultivators blocking them, but because they actively slowed down.
Song Zhiyou had thought the wolves would give up once they knew the elders were following.
But they hadn’t.
Instead, they paid a price to catch up quickly.
Weren’t they afraid the elders would act and eliminate them?
What had happened to cause such a drastic change in the wolves?
Song Zhiyou felt she was missing something important.
Just then, a cry rang out. “Fellow cultivator, what’s wrong? Someone come quickly! She’s about to die…”
Song Zhiyou walked over.
The candidate was covered in blood, seemingly on the verge of death.
Suddenly, something occurred to Song Zhiyou. She found the candidate’s token.
The token was dim, as if it had already been used.
But… the elder had never appeared.
