Chapter 64: Settling the Score

“Absurd!”

“This is utter absurdity!”

Second Uncle’s forehead veins bulged. He pointed at Song Zhiyou, trembling, unable to speak.

“You… you… get out of my way!”

Song Zhiyou’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Second Uncle, how can you go back on your word? You just said you wouldn’t go in!”

“How is that the same! Don’t play games with me, Song Zhiyou! How can there possibly be a spiritual root hidden inside another spiritual root? Move aside. I must stop Qingyao! Otherwise, don’t blame me for being rude!”

Second Uncle clutched his chest, his expression growing angrier and more pained.

With that, he strode forward, spiritual power gathering in his hand.

Seeing this, Li Xiaoye immediately became alert. Even Yun Mian silently moved to Song Zhiyou’s side.

The guards following Li Xiaoye in the shadows rushed forward and surrounded Second Uncle.

Yun Mian didn’t act. She just spoke. “The three of us are disciples of Xuantian Sect. If you lay a hand on us, consider the consequences.”

Second Uncle’s eyes nearly split as he faced the formidable guards and heard Yun Mian’s words.

Just then, Song Zhiyou spoke.

“Song Xiaoqi is my sister. She’s already destroyed her spiritual root. Even if you wanted to stop her, it’s too late. If she can reforge a new root on her own, she’ll be reborn. But if you go in and disturb her now, she’ll definitely die!”

Song Zhiyou appealed to reason and emotion. She had nothing left to lose, and her tone was full of threat.

Second Uncle’s forehead veins pulsed, but he silently withdrew his arm.

Still, his gaze at Song Zhiyou remained icy.

“Did you trick Qingyao into destroying her root? Song Zhiyou, if you hold a grudge against me or the Song family, take it out on me. Why do this to Qingyao!”

Hearing this, Song Zhiyou’s expression calmed.

“I don’t hate you, and I don’t care about you. What grudge would I have?”

“Whatever the reason, ever since the family abandoned me, my bond with them was severed. Whether I ascend or die from now on, it’s all on me. It has nothing to do with any of you. I, Song Zhiyou, will never hold a grudge.”

Second Uncle stood stunned as Song Zhiyou finished. He opened his mouth but couldn’t utter a single word.

He was silent for a long time, his gaze fixed on Song Zhiyou as if seeing his niece for the first time.

“Hey,” just as Second Uncle was lost in thought, someone kicked his toe.

He turned and saw the little girl in gray clothes looking at him with dissatisfaction.

Yun Mian looked up. “You don’t know anything. Why do you judge Song Dahu you with your malice?”

“Do you know? Dahu you had already passed the assessment and left the valley early. But she returned in the middle of the night to save your daughter.”

“At that time, your daughter was being attacked by a pack of wolves, and then an evil cultivator came to the valley. If it weren’t for Song Zhiyou, do you think you’d have the chance to blame her here?”

Hearing this, Second Uncle felt as if he had been frozen solid.

He looked incredulously at Song Zhiyou, his face turning pale in an instant.

“Is… is this true?”

Second Uncle had already heard about the evil cultivator on his way here.

He had thought his daughter survived by sheer luck.

But now, from Yun Mian’s mouth, he learned it was because of Song Zhiyou.

“Of course it’s true!” Yun Mian grew even more upset.

Her memory was excellent!

At that time, the moment Song Zhiyou turned around, she knew exactly why she was going back to the valley.

Li Xiaoye also started shouting.

“Uncle, I’m telling you, don’t wrong Song Xiaoyou. I already said that when we came back, Song Xiaoqi’s condition was very bad. If you don’t believe me, use your brain. If the situation weren’t truly critical, how could Song Xiaoqi be so hasty as to destroy her spiritual root?”

Song Zhiyou listened silently and wiped her face.

Although Li Xiaoye’s guess was very reasonable.

But in the end, Song Xiaoqi’s immediate destruction of her root wasn’t because of her physical condition…

Second Uncle’s gaze shifted back to Song Zhiyou. He opened his mouth but couldn’t produce a sound.

Song Zhiyou found it inexplicable and got goosebumps all over.

“I saved Song Xiaoqi for no reason related to you. Don’t look at me like that.”

Second Uncle couldn’t accept it. “She’s my daughter. Of course it’s related. Moreover… I misjudged you earlier.”

“Fine,” Song Zhiyou’s eyes darted, and she turned and ran back into the room.

In no time, she came out and slapped the two sheets of paper she had just written onto Second Uncle.

“Then pay for the materials used to save her.”

Second Uncle scanned them and put the papers away.

He handed Song Zhiyou a storage pouch.

“This is all I have on me for now. Take it as a thank-you gift. As for the items on the list, I’ll find them and give them to you as soon as possible.”

Song Zhiyou took the pouch and nodded with a smile.

“Alright. Then between you and me, we’re settled.”

As she spoke, she was already calculating in her mind.

If she later took an identical IOU and asked Song Xiaoqi for payment, would that be too much?

Too much or not, it didn’t matter, as long as Second Uncle and Song Xiaoqi didn’t compare notes.

Mm…

After Second Uncle left, she would ask Song Xiaoqi for it.

With her thoughts sorted, Song Zhiyou felt much better.

But Second Uncle’s mood wasn’t so good.

For some reason, hearing the word “settled” left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Once upon a time, he had held this child and truly loved her.

But… things didn’t go as hoped.

In the end, it was the Song family who wronged and vented their anger on Song Zhiyou.

Now, she had grown distant from them. Perhaps she would never come back…

Second Uncle sighed and pushed aside his emotions for now.

No matter what, his greatest concern at the moment was his own child.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t see anything.

Everyone was still at the door. Song Zhiyou hadn’t entered the room either.

She occasionally peeked through the crack to check on things.

The rest of the time, she chatted idly with Li Xiaoye and Yun Mian about cultivation insights and ways to make money.

As for Second Uncle, he stood aside, completely excluded by the three.

The next moment, a sharp scream suddenly came from inside the room, startling all three of them to their feet.

Second Uncle’s eyes turned red, his whole body tense, but he remained silent, not uttering a word.

Song Zhiyou opened the door and saw Song Qingyao covered in blood.

However, her circulation technique was still running.

Amidst the dissipating water vapor, a hint of icy coldness faintly emerged.

Song Zhiyou immediately closed the door again.

Song Xiaoqi was fine.

Song Xiaoqi cared a lot about her image and didn’t want others to see.

Another two hours passed, and the door was opened from the inside.
