Join the ServerNangong Hehe’s shout made many people stop and look her way.
Still, most were just watching.
On one hand, those still here by now were generally bold and confident, willing to try taking demon cores themselves.
On the other hand, they’d already been squeezed dry by that profiteer Song Zhiyou, left with neither spirit stones nor magic treasures.
Since they’d already bought, they couldn’t just let them sit unused…
So, after she called out her price, Nangong Hehe’s stall was deserted.
Nangong Hehe scratched her head, looking over at Song Zhiyou in confusion.
Song Zhiyou didn’t want to shout secrets, so she frantically gestured at Nangong Hehe.
Don’t! Sell! Demon! Cores!
Can’t sell like this!!!
Nangong Hehe tilted her head.
Not like this?
Then how?
Just as Nangong Hehe was thinking, a stuttering voice sounded: “Na… Nangong Daoist…”
Nangong Hehe turned back in surprise.
The candidate subconsciously stepped back, even more nervous.
The cloth bundle slung across Nangong Hehe’s back was stained with fierce, bloody marks—just looking at it scared him.
“I… I want to buy a first-rank low-grade demon core, but… but I don’t have that many spirit stones. Here… here’s my last magic treasure. Can I owe the rest on credit?”
Nangong Hehe took the treasure, her voice hearty: “Sure!”
First sale!
She made a sale!
She instinctively turned to flash a smile at Song Zhiyou.
Song Zhiyou immediately waved again.
No! Selling!!!
Nangong Hehe took the IOU and handed over the demon core.
What is Fellow Daoist Song signaling now?
Seeing it was possible, many eyes grew heated.
Especially those who’d just come back from the forest empty-handed.
Several more people gathered around Nangong Hehe.
“Nangong Daoist, I want one too!”
Nangong Hehe’s grin nearly reached her ears, but she tried to stay calm.
“Easy, easy—everyone gets some.”
Song Zhiyou covered her face, shaking her head, sighing.
Just as Nangong Hehe was making her third deal, a hearty shout suddenly rang out.
“Nangong Hehe!”
Nangong Hehe jolted so hard she nearly dropped the IOU.
“Who’s that!” She whirled around angrily, but froze when she saw who it was.
“Elder Wei?”
The person descending from the sky was Elder Wei.
“Who told you to trade demon cores here?”
He swept his gaze over the few who’d bought from Nangong Hehe, his look one of utter disappointment.
Nangong Hehe’s guilty start lasted only a moment before she straightened her back. “The assessment rules don’t forbid trading. Buying and selling is free. Are you going to control that too, Elder Wei?”
Elder Wei nearly fainted from anger.
But, as Nangong Hehe said, the assessment didn’t prohibit it.
Still, that didn’t mean they’d let this kind of large-scale corner-cutting happen!
He took a deep breath and said in a low voice, “Nangong Hehe, in light of your performance during the assessment, I am now informing you that you have passed ahead of schedule. You may leave Maple Ling Valley immediately.”
Nangong Hehe’s eyes went wide. “I won’t go. I want to take the assessment normally, share hardships with my fellow daoists, live and die together, for all eternity…”
“Shut up! I am notifying you!”
Elder Wei’s face darkened. He raised his hand, and Nangong Hehe was lifted like a chick and brought to his side.
Nangong Hehe was completely dejected, standing behind Elder Wei without daring to speak.
Finally, blessed silence. Elder Wei’s brow relaxed a little.
Then, remembering he’d seen Song Zhiyou and the other two in the water mirror, he spoke.
“Song Zhiyou, Li Xiaoye—you two have also passed ahead of schedule. Come with me.”
Those two weren’t well-behaved either.
Take them away. Take them all!
When Elder Wei finished, he heard no response.
He turned and saw that Song Zhiyou and Li Xiaoye had nearly run out of the open space.
Elder Wei’s temple throbbed.
He snorted coldly, waved his sleeve, and the two instantly appeared on his sword.
Song Zhiyou stiffened her neck, full of righteous indignation: “Elder, we cultivators must be fair and just. How can you openly give me a backdoor and let me pass early!”
Li Xiaoye also stiffened: “That’s right! This is a desecration of your authority and unfair to other daoists. I disagree, I absolutely disagree!”
Elder Wei’s face darkened further.
“Shut up again, and I’ll throw you both into the desolate mountains to continue your assessment!”
Song Zhiyou instantly shut up, looking at Elder Wei with utter obedience, only her eyes blinking rapidly.
The desolate mountains didn’t have these lovely fellow daoists.
Elder Wei let out a long breath. Finally, relief.
He could see it now—these three were nothing but trouble!
He wondered how chaotic his Xuantian Sect would become once they entered…
Thinking thus, Elder Wei asked, “Are you willing to join my Xuantian Sect and become our disciples?”
Nangong Hehe was still fixated on her interrupted business venture, listless.
“If you let me go back to the assessment, I’ll join Xuantian Sect.”
Such bravery!
Song Zhiyou and Li Xiaoye took a deep breath, both casting admiring glances at Nangong Hehe.
Elder Wei took another deep breath, cast a silencing spell, and continued.
“My Xuantian Sect is the top sect in Qingzhou. In both techniques and resources, we are the best in Qingzhou. With your talent and character, only in my Xuantian Sect can you receive the best training and achieve the Great Dao.”
Elder Wei spoke eloquently until his throat was dry, but the three little ones behind him remained completely silent.
Puzzled, he kept talking about the sect’s advantages as he flew his sword.
Yet the air remained filled only with silence.
Elder Wei finally couldn’t hold back. “You three—truly won’t come to my Xuantian Sect?”
He even thought about turning back and letting them return to the assessment…
But the idea only flashed through his mind before he quickly discarded it.
He was still a dignified Xuantian Sect elder with some standards.
Still, Elder Wei couldn’t understand. When had his Xuantian Sect become so undesirable?
Especially that girl Song Zhiyou—hadn’t she been longing for Xuantian Sect before?
Thinking this, Elder Wei couldn’t help turning around and saw Song Zhiyou staring at him expressionlessly.
Song Zhiyou pointed at her mouth, making wild gestures.
