Chapter 58: Two Hands Prepared

“Puff!” A mouthful of black blood sprayed from Xie Yue’s mouth, cutting off any further words she might have said.

Xie Yue’s eyes stared fixedly in Song Zhiyou’s direction. Her head lolled to one side, dead without a sound.

Song Zhiyou collapsed to the ground, exhausted, panting heavily.

Two tokens slipped from her hand and fell to the floor.

Thank goodness. In the moment she had left the mountain path, she had activated both tokens.

One was the assessment token the elder hadn’t taken back.

The other was her token as a Xuantian Sect disciple.

Afraid that activating just one wouldn’t be enough, Song Zhiyou had activated both.

As it turned out, being prepared on two fronts was necessary.

Nearby, Yun Mian also sat on the ground, breathing heavily.

Her face had gone pale from running.

She turned her head, saw Song Zhiyou sprawled out, and huffily looked away again.

She looked sadly at the scrap metal that had been her array plate.

“Song Zhiyou, the materials for this cost me a lot of spirit stones. You have to pay me back.”

Song Zhiyou’s feelings toward Yun Mian were complicated.

She had been set up by Yun Mian and exposed to an evil cultivator, but it had turned into a blessing in disguise, giving her the evil cultivator’s storage pouch and that crossbow she didn’t know how to use.

Now, she had been saved by Yun Mian again.

But hearing Yun Mian bring this up now, she couldn’t help getting angry.

“You’re one to talk! Do you know how badly that array plate you sold me screwed me over?”

“When did I ever sell you an array…” Halfway through her sentence, Song Zhiyou threw the broken array plate in front of Yun Mian.

Yun Mian’s eyes went wide, and she suddenly stammered, unable to speak.

“You… you’re that stinky, cheap jerk…”

Song Zhiyou was not satisfied with Yun Mian’s description.

“What do you mean? You have the nerve to blame me? That array plate couldn’t even last three days, but you lied and said it could last forever…”

Song Zhiyou started to retort.

Before she could finish, Elder Wei walked quickly over to them.

Song Zhiyou immediately shut her mouth, and Yun Mian, as if reading her mind, stopped her own words.

Elder Wei’s expression was serious, and he didn’t notice the oddness between them.

He had just examined Xie Yue’s body and confirmed she was an evil cultivator.

“What happened?”

Song Zhiyou raised her hand. “Elder, go save people! Our distress tokens failed. The whole valley… there are more evil cultivators inside!”

Hearing this, Elder Wei’s face sank. He didn’t have time to ask why Song Zhiyou and Yun Mian were here. He immediately poured in spiritual power to summon the other elders and disciples.

At the same time, he summoned his flying sword and shot toward the valley.

The mountain ridge was left with only Song Zhiyou and Yun Mian again.

Song Zhiyou got up, walked over to Yun Mian, and looked her up and down.

Yun Mian couldn’t help pulling her clothes tighter.

“Why are you staring at me like that?”

Song Zhiyou silently looked away.

“Why did you come here? When the elder asks later, we should… get our stories straight.”

What she was really thinking was how Yun Mian had managed to disguise herself as an old man without being discovered.

But after a moment’s thought, she decided not to bring that up.

Yun Mian also tacitly avoided the subject.

She coughed into her fist.

“I saw you sneaking out and got worried, didn’t I?”

Song Zhiyou was speechless. “Do I look like an idiot to you?”

Suddenly, Song Zhiyou thought of something and asked, “You didn’t come thinking I was digging for treasure or earning spirit stones, did you?”

Yun Mian choked, her face turning bright red.

“You… you can’t just slander people! I tell you, Yun Mian stands tall and upright, honest and honorable. I’m not that kind of person!”

Song Zhiyou glanced at her. “Oh.”

Yun Mian got anxious. “What do you mean ‘oh’? You don’t believe me?”

“Besides, if I were following you, would I be here?”

Yun Mian said this with total confidence.

She hadn’t actually followed Song Zhiyou. She had left a trace of aura on Song Zhiyou and only came looking much later.

But by the time she arrived, Song Zhiyou was gone.

In fact, she had been blocked outside the valley…

When she saw the formation, her fingers itched, so she started breaking it.

Mainly, she had dismantled a lot of things from that formation. When she got back, those materials could be reused.

But she never expected Song Zhiyou to suddenly fall out of the newly opened formation, followed by a terrifying evil cultivator.

With no other choice, she threw the array plate she had just finished and hadn’t wanted to use, blocking the enemy and saving her own life.

Yun Mian sniffled.

With this one incident, she would have to throw away half the work she had done dismantling the formation today.

Thinking about it, she glared at Song Zhiyou again.

Just then, many elders flew over.

Song Zhiyou stood up and waved at them.

“Elder Wang! Over here!”

Hearing her voice, Elder Wang quickly came over.

“Girl, what’s the matter?”

He scanned Song Zhiyou from head to toe and saw she was only slightly injured, nothing serious.

“If you’re fine, I need to go rescue people.”

Song Zhiyou grabbed Elder Wang’s sleeve.

“Elder, wait. I know where some people might be, and I know the exact locations of a few.”

Elder Wei had left too quickly earlier, and Song Zhiyou hadn’t had a chance to tell him.

Elder Wang’s eyes lit up. “Really? Tell me quickly!”

He called over the other elders.

A group of elders gathered around Song Zhiyou, watching her draw out routes.

One elder frowned suspiciously.

“Is that true? The water mirror has been interfered with by some unknown means, showing no correct information. How do you know?”

Otherwise, they wouldn’t have stupidly guarded the water mirror without any idea.

Song Zhiyou didn’t hide anything this time. “This is the route I planned for them. I met them before I encountered the evil cultivator and drew these paths for them.”

The elders looked at Song Zhiyou with admiration.

After agreeing on their respective areas, they quickly set out.

Song Zhiyou and Yun Mian were escorted by a disciple back to the inn in Fengling Valley.
