Join the ServerWhen Moye saw the Wandering Sky Eye Demon send part of its bat-wing demons toward them, her eyelid twitched.
“Luka, it’s splitting its forces! What do we do?”
Moye called out anxiously. “Didn’t you say it wouldn’t dare lower its guard?”
“Don’t panic!”
Luka raised a hand and signaled for the two to stop. “Hold on!”
She braked hard and hovered in midair.
Moye and Alesia stopped as well.
The two of them lingered behind Luka, watching the bat-wing demons approach with tense expressions.
There were twenty bat-wing demons in this group, the equivalent of two squads. That was an extremely powerful air force.
After all, fourteen bat-wing demons had previously chased Alesia, a squad-leader-class magical girl, and two of her squad members, leaving two dead and one injured. They nearly wiped out the entire team.
That time, they won only because Luka’s [Phantom Mirage] perfectly countered the bat-wing demons.
But now, with the Wandering Sky Eye Demon overseeing the battlefield, illusions and invisibility would be seen through by its [Void Breaker]. There was nowhere to hide.
If the three of them clashed head-on with this group of bat-wing demons, it would be like throwing eggs at a rock.
Yet, watching the bat-wing demons close in, Luka didn’t change her expression. She made no move at all.
She just floated in the air, waiting calmly for them to approach.
Moye and Alesia were tense at first, but seeing Luka’s composed demeanor, they calmed down and waited silently for the next order.
It wasn’t until the bat-wing demons came within about five hundred meters that Luka’s gaze sharpened.
Any closer, and they would enter the enemy’s precise firing range.
She raised her right hand, twisted her wrist, and made a gesture to fall back.
“Go!”
Luka turned and flew back the way they came.
Moye and Alesia followed close behind, retreating together.
Seeing the magical girls fleeing, the bat-wing demons were emboldened. They flapped their wings and prepared to accelerate in pursuit.
Buzz.
A telepathic command suddenly entered their minds, and all the bat-wing demons froze.
They hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly slowed down and stopped. Abandoning the chase, they turned around and flew back toward the Wandering Sky Eye Demon.
“Good!”
Luka glanced back and saw this. Overjoyed, she signaled Moye and Alesia to stop.
“It’s just as I predicted. The Wandering Sky Eye Demon doesn’t dare reduce its escort at all!”
Luka pointed at the retreating bat-wing demons and said excitedly, “Look. When they got the order to pull back, they were about three kilometers from the eye demon.
“For the eye demon, if an enemy attacked, that distance would be enough for the bat-wing demons to fly back in time. It wouldn’t be lured away.
“This proves my theory. Somewhere we can’t see, a magical girl is keeping the eye demon on edge, making it afraid to act rashly.”
“As expected of Lady Dolonia! She’s truly wise!”
Alesia looked at Luka with admiration. “You’ve seen right through the demon army’s thinking. I daresay many commanders and strategists are far less shrewd than you.”
“Hmph! Luka is a genius. You don’t need to flatter her.”
Moye snorted dismissively, then looked at Luka. “Luka, you’re right. So what do we do now? Wait outside the safe range and see if anyone comes to help?”
“No.”
Luka’s voice was firm. “The warriors who’ve survived this long are either experienced veterans or very clever. Facing a battle with zero chance of victory, they won’t risk sticking their necks out.
“We can’t pin our hopes on others. We have to take our fate into our own hands, create a winning opportunity for our comrades, and show them there’s hope of victory!”
With that, she moved and flew toward the Wandering Sky Eye Demon. “Follow me!”
The bat-wing demons that had attacked them earlier had already returned to the eye demon and merged back into the circling horde.
Having seen the three Magicas flee, the Wandering Sky Eye Demon had already shifted its attention to other parts of the battlefield.
Now that Luka and her companions flew back, the eye demon immediately took notice.
Those damn little bugs. Why are they back again?
A flash of anger passed through the eye demon’s huge single eye. It immediately sent a telepathic command, dispatching another twenty bat-wing demons to attack Luka.
But to its surprise, as soon as the bat-wing demons approached, Luka and the others stopped midair and turned to flee again.
Seeing this, the eye demon’s purple pupil seemed to freeze for a moment.
When it saw Luka about to lead the bat-wing demons more than three kilometers away, the eye demon had no choice but to recall them.
The bat-wing demons were disheartened and flew back reluctantly.
But the respite didn’t last long.
Once the bat-wing demons returned, Luka and the others appeared in the distance again, swiftly closing in.
This infuriated the Wandering Sky Eye Demon.
It swept a furious gaze over them and still sent out twenty bat-wing demons to intercept.
As expected, when they got close, Luka turned tail and fled again.
Only this time, the bat-wing demons stopped at the edge of the safe range and didn’t retreat again.
They spread out and hovered in the air, lying in wait.
From afar, the Wandering Sky Eye Demon’s single eye seemed to carry a hint of mockery.
These little bugs had truly underestimated its intelligence.
Three times, and if they thought it would fall for the same trick again, they were sorely mistaken.
Weren’t they trying to lure its forces away? Then come ahead. Let’s see if you dare to break through the swarm of bat-wing demons!
But the eye demon didn’t get to gloat for long.
Its mocking gaze froze.
The Magica whelp was still hanging a few hundred meters behind the twenty bat-wing demons.
But her two companions had moved left and right, avoiding the bat-wing demons. They made a wide circle and were approaching it from both flanks!
If the Wandering Sky Eye Demon had a face, it would have been black as coal.
Most of the eye demon’s attention was occupied with monitoring the battlefield and sending frequent telepathic messages. Dozens of local skirmishes required its attention and coordination.
Only a tiny portion of its attention was focused on Luka’s group.
But now it had to squeeze out another twenty percent to deal with these cunning bugs.
The eye demon rapidly weighed its options.
Clearly, everything the enemy did was to force it to split its forces, to lure its troops away and reduce its defensive strength.
So it absolutely could not split its forces.
But it couldn’t let those two two-star Magicas get any closer.
It knew all too well how varied Magica magic could be. Even the weakest whelps might possess an exclusive spell with bizarre effects that could threaten its life.
The probability was extremely low, but it wasn’t willing to take any risk.
So it couldn’t let those two Magicas within five hundred meters. It had to send bat-wing demons to intercept.
The two Magicas were two-star elites after all. To be safe, it should send ten bat-wing demons at each.
The whelp, based on previous battles, clearly had a powerful rare spell. Sending ten more would be prudent.
That meant sending out thirty bat-wing demons, nearly half its current number.
If the enemy split into three groups and kept pulling that come-and-go trick, it would be forced to station nearly half its bat-wing demons several kilometers away.
That was too risky.
This plan wouldn’t work. Time to tighten the defense.
Finally, the Wandering Sky Eye Demon made its decision.
It recalled all twenty bat-wing demons.
It arranged a full seventy bat-wing demons in a dense defensive ring five hundred meters around itself.
It kept only ten close at its side.
This arrangement would keep the Magicas from approaching within a kilometer, ensuring its safety for now.
Once it dealt with the troublesome battles below, it would marshal its forces and crush these three bugs easily!
After setting up its defense, it turned its eye toward other fights and stopped paying attention to Luka’s trio.
Seeing this from afar, Luka’s eyes lit up, and the corners of her mouth curled up.
She quickly gestured for Moye and Alesia to gather around.
The big eyeball took the bait!
