Chapter 5: The Spider Slaughter Demon

“Uh…”

Luka really couldn’t be bothered to criticize Moye’s shameless demeanor.

But then again.

He looked Moye over carefully.

He hadn’t paid attention to this person’s appearance before.

Now that he looked closely.

She had sharp, handsome features and long black hair that spilled down like a waterfall.

Her figure was slender, with well-defined muscles and straight legs.

Two round, firm breasts on her chest were quite imposing.

With her head raised and chest out, she stood tall and graceful.

Under the eyepatch and black pupil, she did give off a charm that matched the name Moye, an iceberg queen.

Of course, that was only if she kept her mouth shut, and one ignored the fact that she was a creepy lolicon.

“What, staring at me so intently, have you been conquered by sister’s dashing elegance?”

Moye smirked, and her aura instantly fell apart.

Luka helplessly held his forehead: “You really shouldn’t have a mouth.”

Then he reached out his hand: “Let me introduce myself as well. I am [Mazeluka Dornea]. Too long, so just call me Luka.”

He gave the original owner’s name.

“Oh oh, so it’s little sister Luka. What an adorable name.”

Moye grinned as she shook his hand, then took the chance to rub it a few times.

Seeing that Luka’s brow was about to furrow again, she quickly changed the subject: “Cough… by the way, you weren’t at all surprised when you heard my name? After all, an East Continent name like mine, with black hair and black eyes, is still quite rare in the Empire.”

“Surprised? I don’t know what the East Continent or black hair and black eyes are supposed to mean.”

Luka was puzzled. “However, now that I think about it, your name is really different from all those long names I heard in the recruit camp.”

‘It almost sounds like a name from my previous life’s Eastern culture.’

He didn’t say that out loud.

“You don’t know about the East Continent?”

Moye froze. “Just how remote is the place you live in? No, even a farmhand in the middle of nowhere would know that by now.”

“I…”

Luka hesitated.

He hadn’t inherited the original owner’s memories.

All his knowledge of this world came from what he had seen and heard in the recruit camp over the past few days.

He’d have to find someone to learn more about this world and the techniques for advancing as a magical girl eventually.

Maybe this veteran Moye standing in front of him could be a good person to ask.

Anyway, the fact that he was lacking in common sense would be hard to hide once they spent time together.

Better to make up an excuse and come clean now, so he wouldn’t have to keep finding reasons to explain later.

With that in mind, Luka simply spread his hands and said: “To be honest with you, maybe something went wrong with my cultivation, and I suddenly lost all my memories from birth to three days ago. Even my name and my identity as a magical girl, I only learned after joining the recruit camp. So naturally, I don’t know any of these ‘cultural common senses’ you mentioned.”

After speaking, Luka lowered his eyes, looking glum, putting on a pitiful appearance.

“What? You, you lost your memories?”

Moye was shocked. Then, as if something occurred to her, she stroked her chin and thought.

After a moment, she spoke: “Speaking of which, I’ve seen amnesiac magical girls in the medical camp. They couldn’t remember their own names, let alone a lot of basic knowledge. It’s said that such women suffered a huge shock on the battlefield and suddenly lost all their past memories. The doctors call this illness ‘Magic Shock Syndrome’. Could your case be this illness?”

Luka was taken aback.

This world really had something like that?

It sounded a bit like “shell shock” from his previous life, just with much more severe symptoms.

He went along with it, nodding: “Mm, mm, yes, yes, I must have that ‘Grinding Needle Syndrome’.”

“Ah, you’re a pitiful one.”

Moye’s eyes were already filled with sympathy. “If there’s anything you want to know in the future, just ask me directly. I’ll chat with you all night and pour all my rich knowledge into you!”

“Mm, okay, okay.”

Luka calmly brushed away Moye’s hand that had reached out again.

Then he said with a serious face: “Now that the misunderstanding is cleared up and the introductions are done, shouldn’t we get back to the main topic? According to my crisis perception’s warning, there are at least one Spider Slaughter Demon and four Demon Soldiers in that wooden hut ahead. They won’t be easy to handle. As a ‘veteran who’s survived a hundred battles’, you must have some brilliant plan. How should we take out these enemies?”

“Take them out? Are you kidding?”

Moye raised an eyebrow. “You know there’s a Spider Slaughter Demon in there, and you still want to go in? Of course, we get far away from this village and find somewhere else to hide.”

“What?” Luka was stunned.

Moye sighed, leaned over, and said: “Little sister Luka, let me teach you one thing. On the battlefield, don’t always think about how to finish off the enemy. Think about how to survive. I’m asking you, is our mission to eliminate this Spider Slaughter Demon? No, it isn’t. Did any officer order us to go kill it? No, he didn’t. Since there’s no such order, what’s there to discuss? Let’s go, let’s run!”

With that, Moye grabbed his hand and headed outside.

But Luka’s mind was in turmoil.

Because of his habits from his previous life, he always tried to solve problems when facing difficulties.

He subconsciously ignored the option of running away.

Moye’s veteran talk made a lot of sense.

He was just cannon fodder forcefully conscripted by the Empire. What reason was there for cannon fodder to go to the battlefield and deliberately help the Empire kill a powerful enemy?

Maybe leaving right now was the safest choice.

But for some reason, the moment he thought about giving up on killing the Spider Slaughter Demon, he felt restless and uneasy all over, as if a hundred ants were crawling on his back.

It was as if a thought kept telling him that once he gave up on this “revenge”, he would lose many precious things.

And if he succeeded in taking revenge, he would gain countless unimaginable benefits.

‘Was this thought some hint from the death rewind magic?’

‘Or maybe he always had a spiritual sense about his exclusive magic. At certain critical moments, that sense would guide him to better explore and use the death rewind ability.’

‘If so, he absolutely couldn’t miss this chance.’

At that thought, Luka stopped and said: “I can’t go.”

“What did you say?” Moye was startled, turning to look at Luka.

Luka looked at Moye’s single eye with a serious expression: “I said, I can’t leave. I have to take down that Spider Slaughter Demon.”

“Huh?”

This time it was Moye’s turn to be dumbfounded. “Are you crazy? Didn’t I just explain all that logic? You’re so smart, you can’t possibly not understand, right?”

“I completely agree with your reasoning.”

Luka sighed. “It’s just that my crisis perception magic tells me that once we leave this place, we’ll face far greater risks than fighting the Spider Slaughter Demon.”

He was too lazy to find more excuses, so he directly raised the big banner of crisis perception.

“This…” Moye hesitated after hearing that.

Luka pressed on: “Trust me. Fighting this Spider Slaughter Demon right now is already the option with the highest survival rate. If you don’t believe my magic, then I’ll stay and fight alone. You go.”

Moye’s eyes widened. “You really want to fight a Spider Slaughter Demon, in this narrow house? You’ve got guts. How could that possibly be the safest way!”

Luka didn’t answer. He just took off his magic blunderbuss and began checking the gun.

Moye scratched her black hair anxiously, pacing back and forth. “My experience tells me this is plain suicide! But, but you also said there’s no other way…”

In the end, she stomped her foot. “I, I can’t just leave you here and run off. I’ll have to take a shot at it!”

“That’s right, you really are a veteran who’s survived a hundred battles.”

Luka squinted with a smile, an expression of satisfaction like a teacher praising a teachable student. “Then let’s make a plan right away and finish this quickly.”

“Ah, fine.”

Moye sighed helplessly.

Then, as if it had just occurred to her, she asked suspiciously: “How come I feel that my experience has no power to argue against your magic? Could I end up being played in the palm of your hand without even noticing…”

“Hehe, how could that be? Don’t overthink it.”
