Chapter 19: The Prey Strikes Back

Under the night sky.

Alesia charged forward like a butterfly darting into a spiderweb, plunging headlong into the encircling swarm of bat-winged demons.

Facing certain death, her body trembled involuntarily, yet her heart was unexpectedly calm.

From the moment she, a noble heir of the Patino family, had resolutely stepped onto the battlefield, she had already foreseen this moment.

Death in battle was just a matter of sooner or later, of glory or mediocrity.

At least her sacrifice now would be witnessed by the comrades behind her.

They would record her final bloom in their eyes and carry the memory back to the rear.

That was already an extremely rare outcome.

A thousand times better than dying namelessly.

Huff.

Alesia breathed in deeply, then out, her fingers clenching the magic gun so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

Ahead, the encircling demon swarm descended like the palm of the Grim Reaper, striking toward her.

“Your Highness the Princess, I am worthy of my identity and honor…”

Alesia murmured softly.

The face of the lady she served loyally, warm and gentle, flashed through her mind, as if granting her boundless courage.

Alesia’s heart pounded violently, as if at this moment, magic power surged from every limb and bone, giving the weakening magic flower seed a sudden jolt.

“Come! This is my final will!”

Her gaze blazed with brilliant light as she glared fiercely at the oncoming demon swarm and shouted:

“Exclusive magic! Mock…”

Smack!

A palm abruptly slapped her on the backside.

Startled, Alesia tensed up and almost let out a yell.

The taunting true word about to be released was swallowed back instantly, choking her so hard she felt short of breath.

“Who’s there!”

Her face flushed red as she whipped her head around.

She was completely dumbfounded.

A petite, lovely girl with golden hair and blue eyes had somehow flown to her side.

She reached out and placed a hand on Alesia’s shoulder.

In sharp contrast to the girl’s small frame was her confident, serene air.

She looked less like she was on a life-or-death battlefield and more like she was taking a leisurely stroll through the palace’s rear garden.

“Alesia, your courage is admirable.”

Luka smiled slightly. “But this isn’t the time for you to die. Go back alive and keep serving your princess.”

Alesia was stunned.

In this new recruit’s eyes and demeanor, she seemed to see a shadow of the princess.

In that moment of distraction, her shoulder was suddenly yanked backward.

Caught off guard, she decelerated sharply, trying to steady herself.

But the petite new recruit had already taken the chance, holding up a magic gun even bigger than her own slight body, and plunged straight into the demon encirclement.

“Wait! New recruit, what are you doing!”

Alesia snapped out of it and shouted anxiously, “Are you insane? Don’t throw your life away! Come back!”

Huff.

Air currents swirled as Moye came to a halt beside Alesia.

Watching Luka’s retreating back, her single eye held disbelief and boundless worry.

She almost lost control and instinctively chased after Luka.

But recalling Luka’s instructions, she bit her lip and struggled to suppress the impulse, staying dutifully at Alesia’s side.

“Luka, what are you really trying to do…”

Moye’s eye twitched, and she bit her lip until it bled, murmuring, “You… you wouldn’t act recklessly and die, right? This has to be part of your plan…”

At the center of the battlefield ahead, the bat-winged demons stared at the weak Magica flying straight at them, and their hideous faces all showed shock.

For a moment, they couldn’t understand why their prey would willingly turn itself into a fine meal and deliver it to the hunters’ table.

“Heh heh! Magica! Dumb! Kill!”

Within half a breath, the shock turned to excitement and mockery.

The demons on both sides immediately tightened their formation, trapping Luka securely in the “spiderweb”.

Seven or eight demons in front howled and raised their heavy aerial magic guns, aiming at Luka, who was almost within arm’s reach.

But Luka, at the center of the web, neither dodged nor avoided. She simply raised her frail shield and charged straight at the demons.

The next moment, magic bullets were about to rain down.

Behind her, Alesia and Moye watched, their hearts leaping to their throats, almost screaming.

“Damn it! Mockery…”

Alesia cursed under her breath, trying to muster her magic power again to cast the taunting true word.

But from the looks of the demons’ fingers already on the triggers, it was clearly too late to stop.

“Luka!”

Moye finally couldn’t hold back any longer. She pushed her magic power to the limit and was about to burst forward.

But everything was too late.

Under their despairing gazes, eight magic guns fired all at once.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A flood of magic bullets, carrying the might of death reaping souls, slammed into Luka.

First, the two fastest bullets.

One left the shield shattered with layers of cracks, teetering on the edge.

Crack!

The second tore the shield apart, slowed slightly, grazed Luka’s cheek, and clipped away a few strands of golden hair.

The remaining six bullets, none missing, pounded into Luka’s petite, fragile body one after another.

Squelch!

The arm Luka used to grip her magic gun was blown off and sent flying.

Her legs were torn off at the roots, her abdomen was pierced with a huge hole, and her internal organs spilled out.

Her chest was blasted open with a massive hole, her heart gone.

Finally, her head took a direct hit, and half of it was torn away.

The small broken body, like a butterfly shredded by a mantis or a sack battered into tatters, scattered in all directions.

This brutal scene, paired with the demons’ ferocious, triumphant laughter, was like the most despairing, terrifying nightmare, enough to clench a person’s heart into sudden silence.

“Bastards! Beasts!”

Alesia’s eyes split with rage, her handsome features twisted with fury, her gaze all but spitting fire.

Beside her, Moye reacted even more violently.

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

A despairing scream nearly pierced eardrums, echoing endlessly through the high sky.

“No, no! It can’t be! My Ailia… Luka! Luka! No, don’t! This is impossible…”

Tears burst from Moye’s wide single eye.

She pressed one hand to her chest, holding back the violent heartbeat that threatened to break through her ribs, and reached forward weakly with the other.

As if trying to catch Luka’s scattered remains.

But she only grabbed air.

Soon, boundless grief and despair transformed into extreme fury and madness.

“I… I’ll kill! Kill you all!”

Moye’s bloodshot single eye bulged nearly out of its socket.

She raised her magic gun, ready to shoot off.

“Wait!”

Alesia, quick-eyed and quick-handed, grabbed Moye’s arm.

“Let go!” Moye shook her off viciously, her voice hoarse and ugly, like a mother beast crawling out of hell.

The boundless killing intent and fury within it made even Alesia shudder.

“Calm down!”

Alesia gritted her teeth, grabbed Moye’s shoulder hard, and pointed forward. “Something’s wrong!”

Moye looked in the direction she was pointing.

In the field, Luka’s shredded body didn’t have a single drop of blood.

The remains flickered with faint light at intervals, the body fading in and out, looking utterly insubstantial.

“Huh? Magica, weird!”

The bat-winged demons also noticed this bizarre sight and froze.

They hovered in the air, looking at one another.

They seemed utterly baffled by the strange phenomenon.

Just as the demons were still exchanging glances and muttering among themselves.

Bang!

A dazzling magic bullet shot out from behind the demon swarm.

Squelch!

The bullet pierced the head of the nearest demon, making it explode instantly, brain and blood splattering everywhere.

The bullet lost little momentum, continued forward, and blasted through another demon’s chest, leaving it a bloody, mangled mess.

“Squeal!”

With a miserable shriek, that demon pitched headfirst toward the ground, smashing into a broken pulp.

The demon’s screams snapped the rest of them awake.

They turned in shock.

There, Luka’s petite figure holding her magic gun gradually went from transparent to translucent to fully visible.

The inscriptions on the gun barrel still glowed with the light of a charged attack that had yet to fade.

“So? Surprised? Shocked?”

Luka’s lips curled up slightly, but her eyes held a cold killing intent.

“Don’t be impatient. You’re all next.”
