“I-I…”
Alesia froze, realizing how embarrassing her instinctive reaction was. Her ears turned red.
“Cough! It’s nothing. Don’t mind such details!”
She withdrew her hands and gave a deliberately calm cough. “You’re right. I was a bit impulsive just now. As an officer, that behavior was truly unbecoming. I’ve made a fool of myself.”
Alesia glanced at Moye, who Luka had “handled” and brought under control, and who now looked rather well-behaved.
She suppressed her anger and decided not to continue quarreling with Moye over this matter.
Alesia turned her gaze back to Luka and carefully looked her over from head to toe.
That gaze seemed to be trying to see through all of Luka’s hidden cards beneath her petite appearance.
“Let’s get back to business. This recruit, no, perhaps I should say, Your Excellency?”
Alesia’s gaze was scrutinizing, fixed on Luka’s eyes. “Whether it’s Your Excellency’s powerful top-tier magic, your exquisite tactical planning, or the will to fight forged through what seem like countless life-and-death crises.”
“I have never seen any of this in a recruit who has just stepped onto the battlefield for the first time. Of course, I couldn’t have. Among recruits with only one-star, one-rank strength, no one has ever single-handedly wiped out an entire squad of bat-wing demons. Hah, to be precise, even among two-star elites, those able to do so are few and far between.”
“If such a magical girl really existed, she would never appear in a unit like ours, nor would she be on this battlefield at this moment.”
“So, Your Excellency, who exactly are you? This youthful body and weak magical aura, could they all be your disguise? Given your top-tier illusion magic, it wouldn’t be surprising.”
“As a scion of the noble Patino family and an Imperial Second Lieutenant, I hope I’m entitled to Your Excellency’s respect and a reasonable explanation. I believe that would go a long way toward deepening the trust between us.”
With that, Alesia put away her magic gun.
Her expression was solemn. She placed a hand over her chest, kept her eyes level, and gave a slight bow.
She performed a standard imperial noble’s greeting toward Luka.
Seeing how grave and serious Alesia was, Luka couldn’t help raising an eyebrow.
She stroked her chin and fell into thought, in no hurry to answer.
Alesia’s attitude toward her and toward Moye was like night and day.
This meant she had already earned Alesia’s recognition in both ability and character.
It was just that Alesia, being of noble birth and well-traveled, and also bearing the responsibility of an officer, naturally had some doubts about her identity.
If Luka could dispel those doubts, then with Alesia’s personality and abilities, she would definitely be a very reliable teammate.
Moye was good too, but that old veteran had too many unstable elements.
And she was a perverted lolicon who would lust after Luka’s body at the slightest provocation!
This time, Luka really had to be fickle and bring Alesia into the fold to make up for Moye’s shortcomings.
But this woman was definitely not as easy to fool as Moye.
Her biggest secret, [Death Rewind], could not and would not be revealed to anyone, no matter how much time passed.
Because she knew that even putting aside those complicated factors, from a sociological standpoint alone, a person who cannot die would find it extremely hard to earn genuine trust from ordinary people.
This was especially true when both parties were comrades fighting side by side in the same squad, shedding blood together.
However, if she couldn’t reveal Death Rewind, then relying solely on [Danger Perception] as an excuse absolutely wouldn’t be enough to explain her series of heaven-defying moves to Alesia.
It was fine to fool a simple brute like Moye, but in the eyes of a noble officer like Alesia, that kind of explanation was just not going to pass.
Thoughts raced through Luka’s mind. She weighed many considerations, but only a moment had passed before she came up with an excuse.
Simple, really. Since this was a different world brimming with magic, why not just throw it all onto almighty magic?
Just add some settings. Keep piling on [Danger Perception], hard core!
For example, she could say that she could simulate battles within predicted crises, and one dream was equivalent to hundreds or thousands of real fights, and so on.
She had read so many web novels in her past life. This kind of setting was ubiquitous. She could just pull a few out and weave them together. It was a piece of cake.
With her mind made up, Luka couldn’t help the corner of her mouth curling up.
She was about to explain her carefully constructed, complex golden finger setting to Alesia in full detail.
It would surely make Alesia admire and envy her so much that she’d fling herself to the ground in worship, with no doubts left!
Decision made.
“Heh, Second Lieutenant Alesia, you’re overthinking it. I haven’t disguised anything. All your doubts can be resolved by my exclusive magic, [Danger Perception PLUS Version].”
Luka put on the friendliest smile she could and reached out her hand toward Alesia. “Let me introduce myself first. My full name is [Mazeluka Dronia]. You can call me Luka.”
“About that matter, I’m curious about it myself. Actually, it’s like this. Let me explain it to you in detail…”
Slap!
Before Luka could unload her meticulously crafted grand narrative, her shoulder was suddenly grabbed firmly by Alesia.
Alesia’s face was pale, her eyes wide round, staring fiercely at Luka’s eyes.
Her pretty face was extremely close, almost pressing against Luka’s nose.
The corners of her eyes twitched continuously. Her hands, gripping Luka’s shoulders, trembled slightly, as if she had just heard some astonishing, earth-shattering secret and could no longer restrain her emotions.
“…Ah? Wh-What are you doing?”
Luka was startled by Alesia’s sudden outburst and spoke with alarm.
Moye, standing nearby, was also furious. She pointed at Alesia and said, “Hey! What are you doing to my… ahem, what are you doing to Luka? Let her go!”
“Shut up! This is none of your business!”
Alesia shot back at Moye, then immediately turned her face back to Luka. “You… just now, you said your name is… what?”
“…Mazeluka Dronia.” Luka swallowed. “Wh-What’s wrong?”
Alesia was silent for a moment. She took a notebook with cute prints on it from the pocket of her dress and scribbled down a name with a few quick strokes.
“Is it spelled like this?” Alesia showed the notebook.
“Uh… yes.” Luka nodded.
“Not a single letter off?” Alesia asked.
“Not a single letter off.” Luka nodded again.
Alesia quietly put away the notebook.
Suddenly, she closed in to within a few centimeters, lifted Luka’s chin, and carefully studied her features.
Warm breath hit Luka’s face, making her freeze. Her small face turned crimson at a visible pace.
Moye, watching from the side, widened her eyes in rage, grinding her teeth. She tremblingly picked up her magic gun and said, “You, you, you! I’m warning you, stop right now, or I’ll really…”
“This small oval face, this smooth, shiny golden hair, and these sparkling blue eyes… I can’t be wrong. I can’t be wrong.”
Alesia’s muttering cut off the other two’s thoughts. “Because this golden hair is much longer than before, and her temperament is completely different, which is why I failed to recognize her at first. This is the biggest failure of my life…”
“Alesia, you’ve been really strange just now.”
Luka looked blankly at Alesia. “What… what exactly did you discover?”
“Inhale… exhale…”
Alesia released Luka’s face. She took a deep breath in and out, trying to calm her surging emotions.
Slap!
Alesia suddenly placed her right hand on her chest, knelt down on one knee, and performed the solemn salute used when a knight appears before their king.
“You, How could you appear on a battlefield like this!”
Her expression was excited. “Your Highness, the Crown Princess Consort of Dronia!”
