Chapter 37: Shaping Hand

“Hey! Aren’t you the commander? Think of something!”

Moye watched the shield teetering on the brink of collapse, her single eye red with panic.

“At this rate, we’re done for in half a minute!”

“Shut your mouth and save your strength!”

Alesia forced the words out from her throat.

“If you put that breath into the shield, it might last a few seconds longer!”

Her shield had already cracked layer by layer, fragile and brittle. Every magic bullet that struck it sounded like another death knell ringing in her ears.

Alesia’s mana had been nearly drained during the fight against the bat-winged demons. She had recovered a little afterward, but before she could get proper rest and sleep, they were suddenly caught in this desperate situation.

Her remaining mana was nowhere near as plentiful as Moye’s. It was clear she was about to give out.

Luka, shielded behind the two of them, was frantic. He wished he could leap forward and take the enemy’s hail of bullets for them.

But he knew his own mana was so feeble that he would be turned into paste, shield included, in just a few seconds.

‘What should I do?’

His mind spun at full speed, thinking hard.

Then, a flash of inspiration struck.

He found a solution in the vast sea of spell lists.

He had planned to save the spell selection opportunity from his promotion to one-star second rank as a trump card, to be picked based on the situation when he needed to turn the tables later.

But since they couldn’t even hold out for the next ten minutes, there was no point in holding back trump cards.

Amid the deafening roar, he closed his eyes, steadied his mind, and went straight into his mental space. He quickly located a golden light point in the spell list.

The moment he entered his mental space.

“HNNNNNGH!”

Moye let out a desperate howl, as if the surge of emotion could spur her on and squeeze out a few more drops of mana to sustain the crumbling shield.

Alesia couldn’t utter a single word. Her face was pale, her eyes wide, fixed straight ahead. She was making her last stand.

Just as the two were about to be torn apart, in that final moment of utter despair, a loud shout came from behind them.

“Get out of the way!”

Moye and Alesia instinctively rolled to the sides.

As they made room, Luka lunged forward.

His right palm flared with a dazzling golden light. The pitch-black safe house lit up as if it were daytime.

Slap!

Luka slammed his glowing palm straight onto the stone wall beside him.

“[Shaping Hand]!”

He let out a low growl, and his right hand yanked back hard.

RUMBLE!

Under the pull of his right hand, the hard stone surface was actually dragged out to form a thick stone wall.

“HAAH!”

Luka hauled the stone wall, more than a meter thick, and leapt to the left.

Before the stunned eyes of Moye and Alesia.

The stone wall stretched and lengthened in his hands as he moved!

In the end, it formed a solid wall more than a meter thick and so tall it brushed the ceiling, standing firmly in front of all three of them.

The deafening roar of magic bullets instantly became low, muffled thuds.

The bullets slammed into the stone wall. Dust burst from the surface, but they could no longer threaten the trio.

Luka was panting, drenched in sweat. He looked at the masterpiece before him, something no human strength could ever create, and let out a long, satisfied breath.

Then his legs gave out, and he slumped backward.

“Luka!”

“Lady Dolonia!”

Moye and Alesia rushed over, caught him, and held him tightly.

“Luka, this, this is the spell you got after promoting to one-star second rank?”

Moye stared, her single eye wide with disbelief.

“The effect is insane! Is it another top-tier spell?”

Luka wiped his sweat and nodded silently.

The spell’s information flashed through his mind:

[Top-tier auxiliary spell: Shaping Hand]

[Effect: Reshapes any object the palm touches]

[Estimated one-star level effect: Can change the shape of objects]

He had never even considered Shaping Hand.

After all, in a fierce battle, this spell was hard to use for direct damage against enemies.

But right now, no lifesaving spell suited this situation better.

Those powerful defensive spells usually relied on one’s own mana to keep working.

With his mana, even if he had chosen one of those, there was no way he could hold off a storm of bullets from hundreds of magic guns and protect three people for ten full minutes.

So it was better to change his approach. Make the environment work for him.

He only needed to supply the mana for reshaping the object. The mountain itself became his shield against every volley from the magic army.

Of course, even so, pulling out a stone wall five or six meters long, over a meter thick, and nearly reaching the ceiling had swallowed his mana like a whale.

He was dizzy, his legs weak.

“Moye, Alesia.”

Luka pushed aside the hair that had fallen over his face and spoke seriously.

“My mana is badly depleted. Help me replenish it quickly, or I won’t have any left to get us out of here!”

The moment he finished speaking, he felt two figures whirl toward him.

“Forgive my presumption, Lady Dolonia!”

Alesia grabbed Luka’s hands and interlaced their fingers tightly. Then she pulled him into her arms and pressed his small face against her fair, smooth neck.

His eyes fell on her pale, smooth collarbones. A warm, sweet scent filled his nose and mouth, and with Alesia’s body heat, Luka’s ears turned red in an instant.

“This, this is a bit too…”

Before he could finish, a cool draft swept across his crotch.

He looked down. Moye had simply flipped up his skirt and shoved her whole head underneath. Her arms locked around his slender waist, and her big face pressed tight against his belly.

Huff!

Moye’s heavy breath blasted out and tickled his navel until he could hardly stand it. He instinctively jerked his knee up and caught her squarely in the face.

“Ow!”

Moye yelped in pain and whined.

“My dear Luka, just bear with it. The situation forces us, there’s no other choice!”

“Oh, oh… I understand. Sorry…”

Luka knew what mattered right now, so he bit his lip and endured in silence.

He had no idea that under the skirt, Moye’s mouth had already curled into a sly grin of success.

Moye and Alesia poured their power into him with all their might.

Luka felt two streams of pure mana, far exceeding his own in quality and density, flow through the points where their skin touched. The energy trickled into his body like refined essence.

Inside him, the small magic flower seed grew hot and entered its mana-replenishment state.

To catch the mana more efficiently, the flower seed slid down toward the skin contact points and drank in the thin streams of power.

Gradually, the thick, dense mana from Moye and Alesia filled the magic flower seed almost to overflowing. It was fully restored to life.

And so, time slipped by in silence.

Luka kept his eyes shut. He heard only the heavy, rapid breathing of the three of them, punctuated now and then by the dull thud of magic bullets hitting the stone wall.

At last, a message surfaced in the depths of his mind:

[Backtracks used today: 0]

[Backtracks remaining today: 5]

The death backtrack count had finally refreshed!

‘We made it!’

Luka’s heart relaxed, as if he had been reborn.

He signaled Moye and Alesia to let go.

Alesia’s cheeks flushed, and she silently stepped back, head lowered.

Moye climbed out from under his skirt with a look of regret and reluctance.

Wiping his flushed face, Luka picked up his magic gun. His expression returned to its usual confidence, and he announced in a clear voice:

“Let’s go! We’re breaking out!”
