Chapter 39: Breaking Out

Hiss…

Luka, who was in close contact with Moye and Alesia to replenish her mana, snapped her eyes open and sucked in a sharp breath.

A warning flashed in her mind:

[Rewinds used today: 1]

[Rewinds remaining today: 4]

Startled by Luka’s sudden reaction, Moye and Alesia quickly stopped their mana transfer and looked at her nervously.

“Lady Dolonia, what’s wrong?” Alesia frowned.

“Huh? Luka, did I pump too hard and hurt you?” Moye poked her head out from under Luka’s skirt. “Want me to be gentler…”

Luka pushed them away, rubbed her brow, and took a deep breath.

She was trying to ease the excruciating pain from being shot dead by a magic gun moments ago.

After a long pause, she finally answered, “I’m fine. It’s enough. Let’s move.”

The two exchanged a look, worry in their eyes.

But they took it as some side effect of Luka’s danger sense and didn’t ask further. They quickly entered combat mode.

Luka immediately cast World-Shaping Hand and slapped the stone wall, starting to shape it.

Everything unfolded, even the dialogue, exactly as it had the last time.

Soon, she stopped the stone corridor outside the illusory wall.

This time, though, she didn’t fly out hastily. Instead, she channeled mana to extend the stone corridor’s ceiling continuously upward.

Rumble rumble rumble…

Amid the deafening noise, the demon soldiers outside looked shocked, watching the stone wall rise higher and higher.

Soon the wall loomed high, reaching the height of six or seven stories.

Forced them to crane their necks just to aim at the top of the wall.

Inside the corridor, Luka lowered her right hand and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

In her previous death, she had realized that even her top-tier magic Illusion Mirage couldn’t fool the Soaring Eye Demon’s gaze.

Moreover, the Soaring Eye Demon could use telepathy to precisely direct the demon soldiers’ attacks at her.

Unless she ranked up, increased her magic power, or simply killed the Soaring Eye Demon.

Otherwise, Illusion Mirage would be greatly diminished.

Also, the demon soldiers were constantly aiming at the top of the corridor. If they flew out, they’d immediately be hit by a volley.

There were many demon soldiers, but if the three could reach high altitude and escape the range of the magic guns, they could ignore these enemies and leave them staring at the sky.

So she did her best to raise the stone wall higher. When they flew out, not only would the soldiers have to shoot upward, greatly reducing their accuracy, but it would also shorten the distance needed to reach high altitude, helping them escape the guns’ range faster.

Actually, if she could, she wouldn’t mind extending this stone wall all the way into the sky.

Just shove it a few thousand meters straight into the Soaring Eye Demon’s ass.

But that was ultimately an unrealistic fantasy.

Channeling the massive stone wall consumed too much mana. Considering she still needed to save mana for the upcoming fierce battle, extending upward by twenty-odd meters was already her limit.

Luka turned to look at Moye and Alesia.

They were already ready, fighting spirit high.

“Listen carefully, you two.”

Luka pointed overhead. “Right now, there are hundreds of demon soldiers aiming at the corridor’s exit. The moment we fly out, we’re bound to take a volley.”

“But if we push our speed to the limit beforehand, only a few soldiers will be able to react and fire in time. And shooting upward greatly reduces their aim.”

“I believe not too many magic bullets will actually hit us.”

“You two tell me, can your shields hold against that?”

“Absolutely no problem!” Moye grinned flippantly. “Getting trapped in that room earlier was one thing, but with firing density like this, I’m not scared at all!”

“I won’t say for sure, since I have less remaining mana than Sergeant Moye.” Alesia didn’t rush to boast; she cautiously told Luka her situation. “But if she takes the lead and I take over when she can’t hold, it should be fine.”

Luka nodded, then looked at Moye. “Moye, so that’s the plan? Any problem with you?”

“Definitely not!” Moye glanced at Alesia. “This girl doesn’t admit defeat often. Luka, I’ll hold steady for you. She won’t even get a chance!”

Alesia couldn’t be bothered to bicker with Moye. She just tiredly rubbed her forehead. “Your strength better match your mouth.”

“Then it’s settled.” Luka finalized the plan. “Right before we fly out of the ceiling, we’ll accelerate to our limit. Moye at the front, Alesia in the middle, me at the back. If the front can’t hold, we swap in order.”

With that, she slapped the stone ceiling, instantly opening a gap, revealing the dark night sky.

The plan was set. Without another word, the three quickly formed their formation and shot upward.

Whoosh!

Less than ten meters from the ceiling, Luka suddenly accelerated.

She dropped her shield entirely, pouring all her mana into acceleration, trying to push her speed to the limit.

She knew that with her one-star, second-rank mana, her flight speed was the slowest among the three. Moye and Alesia both had to slow down to match her.

So she gave her teammates complete trust, abandoned defense, and just accelerated, flying upward recklessly.

Whoosh…

The wind howled in her ears. In an instant, they burst out of the corridor, exposed to all the demon soldiers’ sight.

Seeing Magica fly out, the hundreds of demon soldiers all changed expression.

They shouted and pulled triggers, sending magic bullets streaking toward the enemy from their already-aimed guns.

But the Magica was too fast and too sudden. More than half of the soldiers couldn’t react in time.

By the time these soldiers swung their guns to aim at the Magica’s direction, a dazzling light suddenly blinded the entire field.

It was Moye’s [Blinding Light] magic!

Though the distance dulled its effect, these soldiers had already been a step slower. The flash threw off their shots, sending bullets flying who-knows-where.

As for the less-than-half who reacted quickly enough to fire, their aim was poor due to the upward angle and distance. Most of the bullets whizzed past the trio.

In the end, maybe less than a few percent of the bullets actually hit Moye.

But these were still hundreds of magic guns. Even a tiny fraction hitting was enough to strain Moye.

Moye kept pace with Luka’s rising speed while shielding the two behind her with her body.

Buzz buzz buzz…

A barrage of magic bullets slammed into her shield, creating layers of cracks that quickly spread across its whole surface.

Alesia’s face changed. She quickly shouted, “Back off! Let me take over!”

“No need! This is nothing!” Moye’s face was pale, but she forced the words through gritted teeth. “I can take hundreds, thousands more shots!”

Alesia clicked her tongue and stopped worrying about her.

“Lady Dolonia, are you okay?” Alesia then turned back to Luka to check if she’d been grazed by stray bullets.

The moment she looked, her eyes went wide, and fear washed over her face.
