Chapter 20: Stirring Up Trouble

“This damned wretched girl!” Old Madam Lin’s few remaining teeth nearly ground to dust.

Lin Jiadong suddenly felt the egg in his hand wasn’t so appealing anymore. Why did Lin Qingyu get chicken while he only got an egg?

“If you ask me, you’ve all been too lenient with that girl. Marrying whoever she wants, cutting ties with the family. It’s the first time in Peach Blossom Village’s history, and a disgrace at that.”

Zhang Cuihong couldn’t control Lin Qinghuan, so she came to Old Madam Lin to stir trouble, hinting and insinuating, trying to provoke a fight.

Her mud wall couldn’t just be sacrificed for nothing. Someone needed to teach that wretched girl a lesson.

Lin Daguo felt humiliated. He was a local of Peach Blossom Village, so of course he cared about face.

He never thought he’d be dragged down by that damned girl in the end.

“In the end, she’s married now. We can’t meddle too much. Settle your own grudges with her. She’s no longer part of our Lin family.”

Old Madam Lin, blinded by the money, didn’t see Zhang Cuihong’s real intention, but Lin Daguou saw it clearly.

Trying to push them to the front? Not that easy.

“Listen to yourself. So what if she cut ties? She’s still a Lin, carries your blood. Bones may break, but sinews stay connected.”

Zhang Cuihong expected agreement from Old Madam Lin, but oddly, she stayed silent, even seeming a bit guilty.

“Cough.” Lin Daguo cut off the talk. “The magistrate himself presided over the severance. If she wants to come back, she must sincerely apologize first, or it’ll break all rules.”

“Right, coming back won’t be easy. She must learn her lesson!” Old Madam Lin chimed in.

Seeing that the family only talked tough without acting, Zhang Cuihong brought up another matter.

“Since Qinghuan married Xiao Hanting, the village chief must redistribute land for them to farm, right? Why not talk to him and give them a plot that grows nothing. When they have nothing left, they’ll remember your kindness.”

Old Madam Lin felt a sudden enlightenment. Why hadn’t she thought of that?

Lin Daguo frowned but didn’t stop his mother.

Seeing this, Zhang Cuihong left satisfied. The little b*tch had a lot to learn. She had eaten more salt than the girl had eaten rice. Offending her and getting off scot-free? Not happening.

“Mother, what are you doing in the kitchen?” Second Aunt frowned.

“Going to see the village chief empty-handed? Would you have the nerve?” Old Madam Lin glanced at her, rummaged through the kitchen, and finally picked half a strip of cured meat before heading out.

They were determined to save face now. If it made trouble for Lin Qinghuan, they were willing to take a small loss.

“Zhenggui, come with me to the village chief’s house.” Old Madam Lin called someone to accompany her.

She couldn’t go alone to ask a favor. A man was needed to handle things.

At the chief’s house, they might have just finished dinner, as his wife was busy cleaning up.

“Oh, bringing me cured meat this late. What’s this for?”

Jia Dafu’s eyes nearly sparkled at the meat, but he kept up appearances, after all, he was the chief.

“Chief, we came to ask for something. That wretched girl… Qinghuan married Xiao Hanting, so by custom, she needs new farmland. As chief, you can assign it wherever you want, right?”
