Join the ServerHe was young, but he’d said it anyway. Niu Dan’s mother, though, was an adult. Saying that was mean and deliberate.
“At worst, I’ll just give the wild eggs back to them,” Niu Dan muttered. He had none of the arrogance he’d shown when bullying Da Bao and Xiao Bao.
“Just returning the wild eggs? Nothing else you need to say?” Lin Qinghuan’s tone grew a little softer. At least the kid knew he should give them back, rather than stubbornly insisting he’d done nothing wrong.
Niu Dan looked at Lin Qinghuan blankly. What more was there to say? He’d taken their eggs; giving them back was enough, wasn’t it?
The older kid couldn’t help but speak up to remind Niu Dan, “You should apologize to Da Bao and Xiao Bao. You took their things, and your mother said bad things about them behind their backs. All of that was wrong.”
Da Bao and Xiao Bao straightened their backs immediately. Before Lin Qinghuan came, they’d always been sensitive. Even hearing the word “mother” made their hearts pound with fear that others would say they had no mother.
Now they were finally going to get an apology. They were excited and happy.
Niu Dan scratched his head, conflicted and irritated, because apologizing wasn’t even an option in his mind.
But he really wanted to earn money together with them. That way he could have candy whenever he wanted, and eggs too.
After wrestling with it for a long time, Niu Dan hung his head in regret. “Sorry. I shouldn’t have taken your wild eggs. I won’t do it again.”
Lin Qinghuan crouched down and ruffled both kids’ heads. “Do you want to forgive him? Apologizing is his part, but whether to forgive is your choice.”
Da Bao and Xiao Bao stared at Lin Qinghuan steadily. All the grievances they’d suffered before seemed to vanish like smoke.
“We forgive you. But if you say bad things again, we’ll never forgive you!” Da Bao rarely spoke so firmly. It was all because Lin Qinghuan had his back.
“Alright, go back down to the river and keep catching. Today we pay by weight. Once you’ve got enough, bring them over. The weather’s hot, and they’ll die if left too long.”
Lin Qinghuan gave the reminder, then took Da Bao and Xiao Bao home.
The two kids were especially happy along the way, probably because Niu Dan had apologized to them.
Once home, they couldn’t wait to share the news with Xiao Hanting.
Meanwhile, Lin Qinghuan slipped into the kitchen and went into the space to see if today’s discounted items had been updated.
Band-aids x10, one copper coin.
Disinfectant x3, five copper coins.
Fever reducer x2, five copper coins.
Same as before, she maxed out the purchase limits on all of them and exchanged until they showed as sold out.
She’d finally figured out the pattern behind the discounted items: they all came in the same series. Yesterday it was fire-starting things; today it was medical supplies.
Still, they were all practical. At least she could use what she bought.
She still had time, so she browsed the mall again, picking through items but not sure what to buy.
Suddenly her eyes landed on an electronic craft scale. It combined ancient and modern styles and looked impressive.
She needed a scale right now to weigh the wild goods she was collecting, so this scale came at just the right time.
She spent twenty points to exchange for it. Lin Qinghuan still felt a pang of heartache, because if she saved up ten thousand points, she could upgrade the space, and that was what she truly dreamed of.
She put the scale in an inconspicuous spot in the woodshed, chopped two baskets of greens to feed the chicks, then washed the clothes she’d changed out of. Around noon, she finally started preparing lunch.
