Chapter 71: The Festival of Light and a Deceptive Blessing

The Festival of Light, established by the Holy Light Church to commemorate the God of Light, symbolizes brightness, hope, and purity.

Devout followers in the City of Light donned special festive attire. These garments were typically white, symbolizing purity and brilliance.

Adorned with intricate golden halos and sun patterns, the embroidery represented the bountiful grace of the God of Light.

Children, too, wore wreaths woven from the Flowers of Light, blossoms that bloomed exclusively around the Festival period. Their petals shimmered with a dazzling radiance under the sun.

Theresia, however, did not bother to change her clothes. She remained in her nun’s habit, a serene and dignified smile gracing her features.

As she walked through the streets, she warmly returned the greetings of the faithful, occasionally feigning solemnity to bestow the God of Light’s blessings upon passersby.

Initially, she had no intention of doing such a thing.

She was simply too lazy to change out of her nun’s habit.

However, along the way, they encountered an incredibly adorable little girl.

With a sweet, childish voice, the child asked Theresia for a blessing.

Meeting that pure, innocent gaze, Theresia couldn’t bear to disappoint the little girl. She granted the blessing, mimicking the nuns she had seen on the street.

Though, in her heart, she was not invoking the so-called God of Light, but rather the true name of the Dragon God.

She saw no issue with this. The God of Light might not even be alive, but Theresia had personally and unequivocally experienced the malice of the Dragon God!

Therefore, she was certain that ancient, formidable being was still very much around.

Moreover, despite impersonating a nun of the Holy Light Church, Theresia hadn’t even memorized the full name of the God of Light. According to the Holy Light Church, a divine blessing required silently chanting the deity’s true name.

She only remembered the Dragon God’s true name.

Originally, a mere pretense for the cute little girl would have sufficed.

However, to her surprise, others noticed the scene. Perhaps drawn by Theresia’s elegant demeanor and beauty, they, too, began to gather around.

Amidst the chorus of ‘Sister!’ and the myriad gazes filled with awe and expectation, Theresia found herself lost.

‘Heh, they haven’t noticed anything amiss with me at all.’

‘Oh my, is this what it feels like to be pampered?’

‘Hahaha, accept the blessing of the great Black Dragon King!’

This was a feeling entirely different from being the most wicked dragon in the Labyrinth City—it wasn’t reverence or awe for her power.

Instead, it was respect and admiration for her saintly aura and noble character!

Theresia:

‘Today, the Dragon God is working overtime!’

A bard, captivated by the sheepskin she wore, spoke with excited fervor. “Beautiful and holy Sister, may I be so bold as to ask your esteemed name? As you can see, I am a bard, and if you would not mind, allow me to spread your name far and wide.”

Theresia’s eyes lit up, but she demurred politely. “That might not be appropriate. To be honest, I feel I am still quite undeserving.”

Theodore, trailing behind, cast a silent glance at Theresia. ‘You’re nothing but an impostor who doesn’t even know her own deity’s true name.’

The bard eagerly insisted. “No, no, no! Your aura, your charm, and your every word and deed have deeply moved me. Meeting you is the greatest fortune of my year. Please, you must allow me to do this, or it will be a lifelong regret!”

Theresia knew her moment to shine had arrived.

“Since it is a request from a faithful follower, I have no reason to refuse. My name is Theresia, a name bestowed upon me by the great Black Dragon King; it is also her name. What? You don’t know the great Black Dragon King? Allow me to tell you all about her…”

Theodore watched with wide eyes as the bard’s expression shifted from confusion to fervent devotion, his mouth full of praises for the great Black Dragon King, before slowly walking away.

Theresia gazed earnestly in the direction the bard had departed. “I believe the Black Dragon King’s prestige will now spread throughout the Holy Alliance.”

Theodore couldn’t help but ask. “Is it really alright to use public affairs for personal gain?”

“Problem? What problem could there be?”

Theresia lowered her voice. “I was chanting the Dragon God’s true name. Isn’t that far more effective than that God of Light?”

Other than murmuring ‘impressive,’ Theodore had nothing else to say.

If the God of Light were still alive, Theresia would be in deep trouble.

“Oh, by the way, lend me some support; I’m feeling a bit giddy.” With that, Theresia moved closer to Theodore, taking his arm.

The remaining faithful who had intended to approach saw this and decided not to disturb them further.

Theodore inhaled Theresia’s scent, a slight smile playing on his lips. “Oh my, so forward. Don’t make me think too much.”

Theresia, not to be outdone, though her face was flushed, her eyes still sparkled with confidence. “Heh, if you were to push me down right now, I’d accept it. Do you dare?”

Their gazes clashed intensely in the air, invisible sparks crackling between them.

Just then, a playful voice suddenly broke through the tension.

“Good sir and Sister, the circus is holding a grand event! Come and draw a lot!”

Both Theodore and Theresia looked over simultaneously.

They saw a person in a comical costume, wearing a clown mask, who had appeared before them unnoticed. They held a box in their hands, their eyes crinkling in a smile as they looked at them.

“We are the circus celebrating the Festival of Light today, and our venue is right over there.”

The clown continued. “To thank the God of Light for their protection, our circus is offering free draws to the faithful of the City of Light. Inside is a super luxurious, mysterious grand prize package! Since it’s free, why not participate?”

The two, who had been at daggers drawn, considered this. It made sense.

So, they reached in and each pulled out a slip of paper, on which two symbols were drawn.

The clown glanced at them. “Please wait over there for a moment; we are about to announce the winners.”

As the clown turned away, they silently uttered two words in their mind: ‘Mission accomplished.’

Indeed, this clown was none other than the organizer of the Rebel Alliance, the very one almost called an idiot by the Bishop during a meeting.

But the clown also had something to say. Did they not know that attempting to capture Theresia and Theodore in the City of Light was a fool’s errand?

However, what could they do? They were just an employee!

With the boss giving orders, they weren’t concerned with the employees’ lives or deaths.

So, regardless of whether the mission could be accomplished, the clown had to show their dedication.

Moreover, it wasn’t entirely without gain.

While direct action in the City of Light was unlikely, what if Theresia and the others were lured outside the City of Light?

Backstage at the circus.

The circus master respectfully bowed to the clown. “Lord Clown, the surprise reward has been arranged. That remote and unique resort is ours for a small price. Construction for the tourist facilities is already underway, absolutely foolproof!”

The clown nodded. To conceal their true identity, they paid no mind to their public persona.

Who could imagine that the inconspicuous clown behind this circus was the true mastermind?

A super grand prize of an all-inclusive resort vacation, with a time limit, how could the notoriously greedy Black Dragon resist such a small temptation?!

Once the time and location were set, they could make arrangements in advance. A small Black Dragon and a small Giant would be easily subdued.

“Well done.” The clown gazed into the distance, noticing Theodore and Theresia approaching the circus. They immediately urged, “Quick, go up and claim the prize!”

“Understood.”

The circus master immediately strode onto the stage, shouting with passionate enthusiasm.

“Ladies and gentlemen, to thank the God of Light for protecting our circus this past year, I am about to announce our grand prize winner!

Please hold your prize tickets in hand; we are about to present the awards!”

A massive magical projection appeared on the stage where the master stood, and the projected symbols began to change wildly.

The clown wasn’t concerned with these. They had already told the circus master the symbols Theresia and Theodore held; either one would suffice.

Both winning simultaneously would be too coincidental and might arouse suspicion. So, they adjusted the resort prize to allow two friends or family members to be brought along.

This was absolutely foolproof!

The clown certainly thought so.

Just then, the magical symbol stopped changing. It was the symbol the clown had given Theresia.

‘It’s a sure thing!’

“Hmm? It seems to be my symbol. Heh heh, today is indeed my lucky day!”

Seeing the clear magical symbol on stage, Theresia excitedly waved her slip of paper at Theodore.

Theodore was utterly astonished. For Theresia, who had simultaneously blasphemed both the God of Light and the Dragon God today, to still win a prize?

He became even more convinced that the age of deities had indeed passed.

Meanwhile, the circus master had begun to announce the reward.

“Congratulations to our winning friend! You have won a 7-day luxury tour of Dragon Island Beach! All travel expenses, accommodation, and recreational facilities are free! You will also have the chance to see the mysterious and powerful great dragons there! Please, our friend, come up to the stage immediately to claim your prize!”

Clown: “?”

Theresia and Theodore: “?”

At this moment, the clown had both good news and bad news.

The good news was that they no longer had to worry about Theresia and Theodore suspecting the draw was rigged. The bad news was that the clown watched, wide-eyed, as Theresia’s excited gaze turned blank, and she nonchalantly handed the winning ticket to a passerby before calmly walking away.

As the only official employee, their schedule was packed, so they thought minor tasks could be entrusted to their subordinates.

Now, it seemed, they had been careless.

After the event concluded, the circus master approached the stunned clown, their face full of confusion. “Lord, are you sure you didn’t remember the symbol incorrectly? Why didn’t our target come up to claim the prize?”

The clown stared blankly at the circus master. Had they remembered incorrectly? Heh heh.

“I ask you, with which head did you come up with this reward?”

The circus master, bewildered, said, “I spent two days and two nights picking this one out! This island originally belonged to the Kingdom of Siri (a country near Dragon Island; Dragon Island itself is a vast sea area and islands under dragon jurisdiction), and was developed in cooperation with the Dragon Kingdom.

“But recently, the Kingdom of Siri has been in turmoil, and the rulers urgently needed funds, so they sold it off cheaply. I saw that the location was very remote, and dragons wouldn’t frequent this area, plus there were already existing tourist facilities.”

The clown almost spat out a mouthful of old blood. “*Hoo*… I ask you, what was our objective?”

The circus master pulled out two photos, showing Theresia and Theodore in their human forms, and asked in confusion, “Weren’t it these two people?”

“These two people… their intimacy with humans is lower than that of bugs!”

The clown’s expression slowly crumbled. “I told you, one of them is a dragon, and the other is a giant, didn’t I?! And you put the tourist destination on Dragon Island?!”

The circus master asked blankly, “No, you didn’t say that.”

“I definitely said it!”

“You really didn’t say it.”

“What evidence do you have that I didn’t say it?!”

“I… well, you don’t have any evidence that you did say it.”

“I…”

“Tch, I thought it was just a streak of good luck.”

Walking along the road, Theresia was quite dejected.

Theodore, on the other hand, stated matter-of-factly, “As expected of divine retribution. First, hope is given, then despair. This karma is perfectly reasonable.”

Theresia:

“Do you know what I’m thinking right now? I’m thinking about how to erase someone’s memories, throw them into a remote place where even an Old Patriarch couldn’t find them, and then marry them off to a dinosaur-like wife.”

Theodore scoffed. “Do you know what I’m thinking right now? I’m thinking about how to overwhelm a certain divine dragoness in her nun form, and then make her mind solely focused on how to serve me like a god every single day.”

“Heh heh.”

Even such a sacred festival could not purify the dirty thoughts in their minds.

‘This guy is truly difficult to deal with.’

Theresia fell into thought. Verbal sparring merely kept her from losing face, but it couldn’t change the current situation.

Although she was now free, unlike when she was trapped in the labyrinth, theoretically, she only needed to spread her wings and fly high. Theodore, even as a giant, was at best a terrestrial creature; he could run until his legs broke and still wouldn’t catch her as she soared freely in the sky.

However, how could the great Black Dragon King flee in a panic over such a minor difficulty?

Besides, that wouldn’t solve the problem.

If Theodore could find her once, he could find her a second time. Not to mention, there was a poor Old Patriarch backing him, and he had even taken Promen as his subordinate.

Their combat power had undergone an earth-shattering change.

Previously, because the enemy was hidden and she was exposed, Theodore had caught her off guard. If it hadn’t been for the comical character Promen causing a disturbance, her dragon purity would have been lost there.

Such good fortune might not happen again.

‘Perhaps I can initiate a plan to make Theodore hate me? Then find him a suitable spouse.’

‘Once they walk down the aisle, I can decisively erase Theodore’s memories.’

‘What?’

‘Why would I still need to erase Theodore’s memories then?’

‘Because past embarrassing history can only be known by one person.’

‘At the same time, erasing his memories would sever all of Theodore’s lingering thoughts.’

‘The plan is perfect. If this operation succeeds, even that Old Patriarch won’t be able to turn back the tide!’

‘However, to prevent Theodore from pulling any tricks, I need to keep him under my watchful eye.’

****

Meanwhile, Theodore’s side.

The originally sure-fire fatal blow had been disrupted by the comical character, Promen.

Now, Theresia was on guard, and he presumed she was already devising ways to counter his schemes.

This was not a good sign. Although he was confident that he was still stronger in terms of brute force.

The problem was that the City of Light was not a place for two behemoths like them to fight.

His strength, after battling Aral, should be able to increase even further.

So, before finding the right moment to completely subdue Theresia, he needed to keep her under his watchful eye.

“Theodore.”

“Theresia.”

As if by prior arrangement, they both called out each other’s names in unison and looked at one another.

Theodore and Theresia paused for a moment.

“You speak.”

Both:

“I’m not in a hurry.”

Both:

At this rate, they wouldn’t be able to talk. After a moment of thought, they spoke simultaneously once more.

“Ladies first.”

Both:

It was simply inconceivable for the two of them not to be together.

Fortunately, they finally established the order in which they would speak.

Theresia slowly began. “Theodore, no matter what grievances exist between us, how about a temporary truce? I think we both need to calmly consider how we should get along from now on.

“After all, I am a civilized dragon, and you are a civilized giant. Constantly speaking of ‘overwhelming’ each other could easily lead to our social demise, don’t you think?”

Theodore nodded, agreeing wholeheartedly. “You certainly have a point. However, if you were more cooperative, our grievances could actually be resolved. I don’t necessarily have to resort to overwhelming force.”

“Perhaps that is the case.” To Theodore’s surprise, Theresia suddenly went against expectations and agreed with his view.

He began to look around.

Seeing this, Theresia asked curiously, “What are you looking for?”

Theodore said matter-of-factly, “A hotel. Since you’ve agreed, there’s no time like the present. Let’s settle things today; the atmosphere seems quite good, don’t you think?”

Theresia:

“Do you dare to shout your thoughts aloud in the street?

I guarantee the faithful of the City of Light would drown your giant form with their spit, one mouthful each.

Indeed, even transformed into a giant, you’re nothing more than a monkey whose brain is controlled by its lower half.

While she admitted her body was excellent, she had no desire to be filled like a reservoir again.

“Hey, hey, you’re being too hasty. Look, I asked you to help me through my developmental stage, and I’ve been mentally preparing for three whole years.”

“Even if this body truly has to endure the ‘filling’ from your wrath, you should allow me more time for mental preparation, right?”

Just saying these words, Theresia felt herself tainted.

But these were all preparations for a beautiful future.

Every sacrifice was worth it.

As long as she didn’t sacrifice herself completely.

Theodore picked a fault and asked, “So you mean you want me to wait another three years? I regret to inform you, I refuse. I’ve already waited seven years. Do you know how I’ve spent these seven years?!”

‘It couldn’t have been spent drinking every day, could it?’ Theresia muttered to herself, then shook her head.

“No, no, no, how could I say such cruel words? Theodore, you see, when we interacted before, it was always as buddies, so there was a lack of romantic development. This led to us not having a proper way to deal with our feelings.

“But now I understand your intentions. For the next period, Theodore, besides… *overwhelming* me! Do you have any other plans?”

Theresia’s voice trembled as she uttered those three words.

Theodore looked deeply at Theresia.

“None.”

“Why not stay by my side?” Theresia said, placing one hand over her chest. “Let us examine and accept each other with normal romantic feelings. Once we both acknowledge each other, everything will naturally fall into place, won’t it?”

Theodore looked at Theresia with an ‘I completely don’t believe you’ expression. From experience, when Theresia tried to reason with him, that was when she began to con people.

The more convincing the deception, the more reasonable the arguments sounded.

However!

Theodore said with a gentle smile, “I think what you’re saying makes sense.”

Theresia looked at Theodore in surprise. She had expected to have to argue for a while before Theodore would agree.

She didn’t know that when she tried to subdue Theodore with reason, Theodore had already cast aside facts and logic.

Now Theodore was waiting for a moment, a moment when it was just him and Theresia, a moment when no one would disturb them.

For such a wicked woman, he needed to completely ‘overwhelm’ her, make her see stars, make her cry and laugh while saying she would never dare again. Only then could she put away her wicked intentions.

After that, Theodore would properly date Theresia.

Although the sequence seemed different from normal people, this was the sequence for conquering Theresia!!!

Theodore sighed silently to himself. He had once tried the normal sequence, but what he got in return was having all his favorability cleared, and then being ‘overwhelmed’ and discarded.

‘This is your karma, Theresia!’

Successfully drawing Theodore into her most familiar delaying tactic, Theresia’s eyes sparkled with a pleasing light. The advantage was now hers!

She whispered, “By the way, where are they going?”

Although the streets were bustling with faithful, a general trend could be observed.

Theodore, who had been sober in the City of Light for a month, immediately provided the answer.

“They are performing the ritual of igniting the Crystal of Light. This is an essential part of the Festival of Light. Let’s go watch.”

“Alright.”
