Chapter 83: The Black Dragon’s Grand Performance

The stage was set for the Dragon Dance. Members of the Holy Light Church were busily setting up the projection equipment, working with fervent haste.

Although they had Moria’s previous experience to draw upon, more than a thousand years had passed since then. The team that had performed the projection back then had long since turned to dust.

They could only proceed with the setup based on fragmented records and Theresia’s specific requirements. Fortunately, a millennium of technological advancement meant they no longer needed an entire day for the preparations, as was once the case.

A sigh escaped her lips. Alicia wiped the sweat from her brow, her gaze fixed on the central figure on the stage.

At this moment, Theresia stood with her eyes closed, deep in concentration. Aside from answering a few essential questions, she remained still, yet a stifling aura of deterrence emanated from her, spreading outwards.

Aside from the sounds of the instruments being set up, everyone present was meticulously suppressing their voices, as if terrified of provoking this being, who seemed the very embodiment of darkness.

Theodore had told Alicia that the projection should only begin if Theresia’s performance proved exceptional. However, Alicia had no intention of waiting.

Theresia’s very posture conveyed that this Dragon Dance would be an unparalleled success. Thus, Alicia intended to project the performance from its very beginning, ensuring that every believer in the City of Light could witness a complete, unforgettable Dragon Dance.

Alicia called out loudly, “Theresia, you may begin!”

Theresia slowly opened her eyes. She first turned her head towards Theodore, the orchestrator of this performance, before speaking softly.

“The Black Dragon’s dance indeed looks better up close. However, to truly appreciate its full effect, one must possess a certain level of strength.”

Theodore mused on this. The stage’s edge was a safe zone designated by Theresia, protected by a barrier. The interior of the stage was Theresia’s operational area. Would entering it not disturb her?

Carrying this question, Theodore nevertheless stepped onto the stage, stopping about halfway from the edge to the center.

Alicia, too, was eager, but unfortunately, she was still bound by her restraints and couldn’t risk such an adventure like Theodore.

Then, the Black Dragon began to dance.

In the City of Light, the Pope was engaged in friendly exchanges with representatives from the Holy Alliance member states at an open-air banquet.

Suddenly, a projection materialized directly above the City of Light, captivating the gaze of everyone within the city.

The Pope looked up in astonishment, immediately spotting the black dragon within the projection—clearly visible and majestic, enveloped in soft magical orbs in the night sky.

This sight indicated that the performance had only just begun. So, Alicia had judged that there was no need to doubt Theresia’s Dragon Dance? The Pope had confidence in his Saintess’s judgment.

The other representatives, however, were somewhat bewildered by the scene. Yet, they at least recognized the colossal figure on the stage, radiating immense presence and pressure, as Theresia, the Black Dragon of the Dragon Race.

The Pope smiled, reassuring them, “Esteemed guests, Theresia, the Black Dragon of the Dragon Race, has recently formed a special bond with our church. Therefore, on this auspicious festival, she intends to present a Dragon Dance of the Black Dragon to the believers of the City of Light. Please enjoy the performance.”

Simultaneously, clerical members throughout the City of Light used amplification magic to announce this news to the city’s faithful. In an instant, all eyes were drawn to the figure within the projection.

In the vast clearing prepared by the Holy Light Church, milky-white magical particles illuminated the entire space, making it as bright as day.

Upon this sacred stage, Theresia, the Black Dragon, spread her wings and slowly ascended into the sky, her oppressive golden dragon eyes gazing down upon the land.

Both those present at the site and everyone in the City of Light felt their bodies tense involuntarily, trembling under that gaze.

Then, Theresia began to move.

Her movements gradually accelerated from slow, transitioned from gentle to unrestrained, and escalated from silence to a soaring crescendo.

Theresia’s performance was less a dance and more a battle of life and death.

It was as if an opponent, equally matched with the Black Dragon, was fiercely engaging her in combat.

Theresia soared through the air, her scales, black as ink and shimmering with faint silver light, glistened brilliantly amidst the magical particles. Her powerful yet graceful form moved fluidly through the sky. Each wingbeat, each surge forward, was accompanied by a deafening roar. The air ripped apart, her massive body seemingly capable of twisting and deforming the entire sky, while the ground below cracked deeply under her immense power, sending dust swirling.

With every elegant yet aggressive spin and dive, Theresia continuously unleashed scorching and destructive dragon’s breath. When she abruptly paused, the energy had accumulated to its peak, instantly transforming into a torrent of black mist that erupted from her mouth, spreading outwards like a vortex.

These breaths of dragonfire were as hot as flames, yet imbued with an invisible force that instantly reduced everything around them to dust.

As the dance reached its climax, the roaring wave of black dragon’s breath she exhaled shot straight into the sky, climbing higher and higher into the heavens.

Upon reaching its zenith, the energy wave seemed to be enchanted, blossoming like fireworks, scattering countless tiny, dark purple stars. These beams of energy, like shooting stars, plummeted from the sky, colliding with the earth and producing soul-shattering sounds that echoed endlessly through the air.

And at this moment, amidst these dazzling currents of energy, Theresia danced nimbly. With every light, elegant, yet powerful movement, she placed herself at the heart of this moving spectacle. As if time itself had paused, this was not merely a performance, but an unyielding pursuit of the essence of life, of power and beauty.

The audience watched with bated breath, all of them shaken by this grand performance that fused combat skill with artistic expression. At this very moment, all that remained was the suffocating, atmospheric pressure from the depths of their souls and the most primal, intense reverence for the essence of life.

Theodore finally understood why Theresia had said it looked better up close.

All the dance, no, all the destruction was real; it was by no means a mere ‘show’ put on for performance. Only by being in the midst of such destruction, feeling the stinging impact of the residual attacks on his body, could he truly experience its relentless, visceral intensity, his entire soul seemingly yearning to break free from his body because of this dance.

His flesh was constantly struck, constantly impacted. Bruises appeared all over Theodore’s body, yet he showed no intention of leaving his spot.

He wanted to firmly engrave this most beautiful scene of Theresia into his mind.

“Is this the Black Dragon’s dance? It’s truly exhilarating!”

A voice came from beside him. Aturu had, at some point, sat down cross-legged next to Theodore.

“When did you arrive?” Theodore asked, somewhat surprised.

“Just now,” Aturu replied, handing Theodore a bottle of wine. “I watched, and I understood. Such a dance must be experienced up close to truly appreciate its charm, so I took three minutes to rush over.”

Theodore broke into a sweat. This was several kilometers from the City of Light, and Aturu had arrived in three minutes.

Swallowing a shot of strong liquor, Theodore said no more, immersing himself completely in the performance.

Such a breathtaking performance lasted a full half-hour. As the Black Dragon slowly descended from the sky, the ground of the stage was utterly unrecognizable.

Only the spot where Theodore and Aturu sat cross-legged remained perfectly intact. Yet, everyone ignored this trivial detail. Theodore’s applause was the first to ring out.

Everyone at the venue, as well as everyone in the City of Light, erupted into thunderous applause.

Even Clown and his subordinates, who had taken some time to watch the performance, were moved to tears. His hands were nearly sore from clapping as he excitedly told his subordinates, “Do you see? Do you see? This sense of majesty—this is the Black Dragon!

How can you still have the nerve to bring out those shoddy pieces of junk to fool people? Hurry up and research a drug that can accelerate the Dragon Race’s pregnancy! Let’s strive to have a Black Dragon for everyone!

His subordinates erupted with unprecedented enthusiasm. This time, their efforts were no longer driven by their boss’s oppression.

A Black Dragon for everyone! What could be a more inspiring reward than that?

She must give birth!
