Chapter 73: The Blurring Line

The two dice tumbled across the floor, one settling on three, the other on four. Four eyes simultaneously darted to confirm the destination.

“It’s bankruptcy.”

Having finished the calculations, he flashed a bright, triumphant smile, as if anticipating his victory. Although I already knew the outcome, I couldn’t abandon a sliver of hope, slowly moving my game piece according to the dice roll.

‘It really is Seoul.’

Moving precisely seven spaces, my piece landed on Seoul for the second time. Regrettably, I wasn’t the owner, which meant paying a hefty toll twice.

Checking my nearly empty stack of bills, I had no choice but to concede defeat. There was no more money to be found, not even if I sold the entire country. It was his absolute victory.

“Yoo Seo-jin, you’ve lost.”

With a vexing final blow, he fanned a thick stack of bills before me, enough to serve as an actual fan. Suppressing my irritation, I gracefully accepted the outcome.

“Han Jung-woo, you’ve won.”

“Yes, I have.”

Given Han Jung-woo’s personality, he seemed ill-suited for board games, making me assume I’d win easily. However, I had overlooked one crucial fact.

In a game of World Travel, skill was secondary to the sheer luck of the dice.

‘I shouldn’t have made that bet.’

If we had merely enjoyed the game, there would have been no worry. The problem was, I’d fallen for his provocation and placed a bet.

“What wish will you make?”

“Hmm, I’m not sure.”

After a long pause, he deferred his answer, saying he’d need a little more time to consider.

With the lengthy board game concluded, he, now invigorated, suggested I choose the next one. But reeling from the impact of my defeat, I simply wanted to rest.

‘Now that I think about it, I haven’t eaten.’

So engrossed in the game, I’d forgotten about my hunger. I considered eating now, but the timing felt awkward, and having missed the window, I no longer felt hungry.

“I’ll go upstairs and rest now.”

“…No more games?”

Uncharacteristically gloomy at the prospect of me not playing with him, he took my hand as I prepared to leave.

“Are you very tired?”

Trying to indirectly ask me to stay, he gently stroked the back of my hand with his thumb. My lips twitched upward at the ticklish sensation, but I quickly suppressed the smile.

“Then Han Jung-woo, you should rest too.”

“Together… that sounds good.”

He mumbled to himself, then released my hand and rose first. He approached, slipped one arm under my shoulder and the other beneath my knees, and effortlessly lifted me.

“What in the—”

“Hold on tight. Wouldn’t want you to fall.”

Before I could even protest to be let down, he moved swiftly. Although it was unlikely, I tightly closed my eyes, wrapping my arms around his neck, just in case I might fall.

Carried in his arms, I was brought up to the second floor. I only opened my eyes upon hearing a door open, realizing we had entered his room, not mine.

“Why here—”

“You said we should rest together.”

What I meant was for us to rest in our respective rooms, but he seemed to have interpreted it entirely differently.

He gently lowered my bewildered self onto the bed, then naturally settled into the space beside me. Offering one arm as a pillow, he then patted my back, as if urging me to sleep.

“You said you were tired. Get some good rest.”

There was no way I could sleep with his arm as a pillow, cradled in his embrace. Besides, I had my own room and certainly didn’t wish to uncomfortably share a bed with him.

“Han Jung-woo, I’ll go to my room—”

“I’ll use my wish.”

What stopped me from returning to my room was the wish he had earned by winning the bet. I lifted my head, and his hand gently cupped my cheek.

Due to our close proximity, I could even clearly see the subtle tremor in his eyes. Uncharacteristically nervous, he parted his lips.

Once, twice, his lips closed without speaking, before finally uttering a complete sentence.

“From now on, sleep with me.”

“Are you saying we should combine our rooms?”

He slowly nodded. Since no limits had been placed on the wish, I had to grant whatever he asked. However, combining rooms was an entirely different matter.

“Han Jung-woo, that’s—”

“Just stay by my side.”

Cutting me off rather abruptly, his voice was trembling. His expression remained as calm as ever, yet his eyes wavered, and his voice was precarious.

“I’ll sleep as far in the corner as possible, so we don’t accidentally touch. The bed is spacious enough that you won’t be uncomfortable, Yoo Seo-jin, but if even this feels too small, I’ll buy a bigger one.”

Han Jung-woo’s bed was large enough for five people to lie on. So, there was no way two people sleeping in it would feel uncomfortable.

‘This shouldn’t be happening.’

What was the point of drawing the line again and again? He tried to cross the line without a second thought, and I desperately tried to stop him, but it wasn’t working.

I simply had to compose myself, reminding myself not to waver any further, and draw a new line whenever he tried to cross the old one. He would already be standing before me by then, unaware that the lines I kept redrawing had lost all meaning.

“Yoo Seo-jin….”

As the silence stretched, even his calm expression crumbled into anxiety. Without affirming or denying, I nestled into his embrace.

‘I don’t know anymore.’

I just wanted to stop these complicated thoughts.

Interpreting my ambiguous answer as an affirmation, he moved faster than ever before. Within a single day, a new, even larger bed arrived in his room, and my own room was swiftly cleared out.

Perhaps he was worried I might change my mind, as he had completely eliminated any space for me to return to.

‘What a relentless bastard.’

Having accomplished all of this in just half a day, he returned home earlier than usual. He looked immensely satisfied as he alternated glances between my now-cleared room and his own, transformed with the new bed.

“Your dressing room, Yoo Seo-jin, will be organized soon, so please wait a little longer.”

“There’s really no need for that….”

“Don’t worry, I’ve already filled it.”

Just as he said, the dressing room, which had only a few clothes hanging, was now suddenly overflowing. From clothes I couldn’t imagine when he’d prepared them, to countless other items, everything was expensive and precious.

‘What a total waste of money.’

The bags alone were worth an exorbitant fortune, and adding the watches… even for Yoo Seo-jin, this level of extravagance would likely be overwhelming.

‘I don’t need any of this.’

As Yoo Joon-hee, I had never willingly bought luxury brands unless they were sponsorships. I was quite frugal and held no interest in such things.

Oh, there was one time. I’d bought a watch so expensive that my hand trembled when I handed over my card to pay.

“Yoo Seo-jin.”

As I surveyed the dressing room, filled with what felt like meaningless items, Han Jung-woo called my name. When I approached him, he placed something on my head.

It was a hat with large, white rabbit ears.

“What is this….”

“Hmm, I bought it because I thought it would suit you.”

He feigned seriousness, but couldn’t hide the twitch of his lips. Anyone could see he was clearly intending to tease me, so why pretend otherwise?

‘I never even did something like this when I was Yoo Joon-hee.’

Despite being a celebrity, I’d held fan meetings with my few fans, but even then, I’d never worn a hat with rabbit ears. At most, it was a flower crown.

“Han Jung-woo, could you bend down a bit?”

He composed his expression and lowered his head without suspicion. I swiftly removed the hat and plopped it onto his head.

Startled, his eyes widened. The hastily placed hat messed up his neatly styled hair, but it softened his features, making the rabbit hat surprisingly suit him.

“Han Jung-woo, it suits you more than me.”

As I straightened the crooked rabbit ears, he let out a soft chuckle. He then straightened his posture, walked to the mirror, and put the hat back on properly.

“Well, it’s not bad.”

After examining his reflection, he turned back to me, offering his head adorned with the rabbit hat. I stood there blankly, wondering what he wanted, until he took my hand and placed it on top of his head.

“You want me to pet you?”

“That would be nice.”

As I complied and stroked his head, he laughed aloud. He lowered my hand to his cheek, then subtly turned his head, pressing a kiss to each of my palms in turn.

“Not bad at all.”

The line, it kept blurring.
