Chapter 94: The Weight of Reality, The Lure of a Dream

The labor pains had come earlier than expected. With the due date still some time away, the thought of it being actual labor had never crossed his mind. As they rushed to the hospital, he was consumed by an insane anxiety, fearing something might be wrong with either Joon-hee or the baby. Whatever the outcome, he was utterly helpless.

All he could do was clutch Joon-hee’s pale hand, fervently praying to an unknown god that nothing would go wrong.

After the ambulance arrived at the hospital, everything became a frantic blur. The doctor, having assessed Joon-hee’s condition, immediately diagnosed the need for surgery, and nurses bustled around busily.

“I’m going to be okay, right?”

Joon-hee’s voice trembled as he asked. Facing that bloodless face, he uttered a lie, reassuring Joon-hee that everything would be fine, even though he himself harbored no such certainty.

“It seems Kkam-jjaki was eager to come out quickly.”

“They certainly are impatient.”

“Indeed.”

As they exchanged these lighthearted jokes, a measure of color returned to Joon-hee’s face. Then, the pains seemed to resume, and he writhed in agony once more, prompting the other to pray he could somehow bear that suffering instead.

“We’re moving to the operating room.”

The nurses, having completed their preparations, took Joon-hee away. He followed them to the operating room door, desperately unwilling to release Joon-hee’s hand, but further entry was forbidden.

“I’ll be waiting, hyung.”

“Okay, I’ll be back.”

With that brief exchange, the operating room doors closed. Left alone, he eventually made his way to the waiting room for guardians, where he gazed endlessly at the name ‘Yoo Seo-jin’ displayed on the monitor.

The moment the status changed from ‘Waiting for Surgery’ to ‘In Surgery’, he could no longer hold back the tears that abruptly welled up. Clasping his hands together, he prayed fervently.

‘Please, let both Joon-hee and the baby be safe.’

“—up, hyung, wake—up.”

An familiar voice drifted through his sleep, and a smile unconsciously spread across his lips. As he stirred his languid body, a warm hand gently caressed his cheek.

“Come on, wake up.”

You pressed your lips close to his ear, whispering in a teasing voice. Unable to resist, he laughed aloud, and you hugged him tightly, laughing along.

“Are you going to keep sleeping and leave me? We haven’t spent time together in so long.”

“Alright, I’ll get up.”

As he slowly lifted his now lighter eyelids, he saw your face, smiling more beautifully than the morning sun. It was then that he realized something was amiss.

‘It was definitely a hospital just now.’

He remembered clutching your hand, writhing in pain from the sudden labor, before being taken into the operating room. He even recalled waving to your anxious face as the doors closed behind him.

‘Was that a dream?’

He couldn’t discern which was reality. After all, he wasn’t an Omega, so there was no way he could have a child. Perhaps entering the operating room had indeed been a dream.

A dream, long and vivid.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Just because I like you.”

Given their incredibly busy schedules, it had been a long time since he had spent a night like this with Seon Woo-jung. He couldn’t deny that they might have overdone it a bit, trying to make up for lost time all at once.

Perhaps because of that, he actually felt no sensation below his waist. Fortunately, you had taken care of things while he slept, so his body didn’t feel sticky or uncomfortable.

“I really almost died yesterday.”

“Why? Was it because you liked it so much?”

Seon Woo-jung, smiling sweetly, teased him with the question. While it was true he had enjoyed it, it was you who had pushed him to the point of unconsciousness, so he glared at you with narrowed eyes.

“You’re infuriating.”

“Tsk, nice words.”

Claiming it was punishment for his naughty words, you pecked his lips lightly. He wanted to ask how this could possibly be considered a punishment, but seeing you act so earnestly, he pretended to be repentant as well.

“If you say bad words again, I’ll spank your butt.”

“How dare you, to your senior.”

For the audacious junior, he delivered a flick to the forehead as punishment. He had struck gently, yet you rubbed your unreddened forehead with your hand, pouting your lips as if in pain.

“My forehead hurts, though.”

“Don’t exaggerate. I barely hit you.”

“No, it really does hurt.”

Seon Woo-jung, his large frame hunched, burrowed into his arms. Clinging tightly to his waist, you rubbed your face against his chest, which bore the lingering marks of last night, then let out a deep sigh.

“I want to stay with you, hyung.”

“When do you have to leave?”

“I have a photoshoot this evening.”

He glanced at the clock; it was already 3 PM. He knew they had overslept, but the thought that only a few hours remained until evening brought a pang of regret.

Indeed, he too would be moving frantically from tomorrow, so today was the last day he could afford such leisure.

Both he and you were incredibly busy people, after all.

“Even so, I’ll come whenever I get a chance.”

“You’ll get photographed again if you do that.”

“What does it matter? Who doesn’t know we’re dating?”

A considerable amount of time had passed since they went public with their relationship, yet paparazzi still shadowed their every move. Even when they met discreetly, articles would inevitably appear the next day. It seemed Seon Woo-jung had concluded it was better to simply be open about it.

However, being the more cautious one, he remained wary, unlike you. After all, not everyone would bless their relationship.

“An article probably came out today too. Something titled ‘‘.”

“You could write articles yourself.”

Though he spoke in jest, he knew that if he searched online now, there would undoubtedly be several articles with titles similar to what Seon Woo-jung had just mentioned.

Reading the worry that slowly began to fill his eyes, you pressed your foreheads together and spoke.

“If I became a reporter, I’d have to write special features about you every day, hyung.”

“Are you trying to insult me?”

“No. I’d write something like ‘‘.”

At the mere mention of such a pleasant article title, his narrowed eyes softened. He tried to change his expression, wondering if he had shown too much delight, but his true feelings had already been exposed.

“If I only wrote articles praising you, everyone would know I’m your fan.”

“Fan, my foot…”

“Why? It’s true. I am your fan, hyung.”

He had heard you say several times that you became an actor to meet him, even back when you were just a junior he knew. But at the time, he thought you were just trying to impress him.

Well, now he believed it was sincere.

“I had a dream earlier.”

“What kind of dream?”

“Just, you and I…”

He replayed the increasingly hazy dream in his mind, wanting to tell you about it. It was a dream where, if not quite married, they had a child and lived happily, if only for a short while.

“There was a baby in my stomach.”

“Whose baby?”

Startled by the sudden revelation, Seon Woo-jung shot upright. He then looked at his flat stomach and began to demand whose child it could have been, even if it was just a dream.

“Yours, of course.”

“Indeed, if not mine, then whose? Even last night, how much of me was inside your stomach—”

“Hey!!!”

He tried to hastily cover your mouth, but you evaded his hand and burst into laughter. You kissed various spots on his flushed face, then urged him to continue his story.

“No, I don’t want to.”

“Why? I want to hear more. You said we had a child together, even if it’s just a dream, it’s wonderful.”

Still feeling a bit sulky, he refrained from saying, ‘Me too.’ You pressed close to his tightly shut lips, acting cute to coax him out of his anger.

He was well aware of your tricks, always trying to smooth things over with aegyo, yet seeing that face, his anger inevitably melted away. In the end, he decided to continue the dream story as you wished.

“In the dream, we were—”

“Hyung?”

A bright light appeared before his unfocused eyes. Your face wavered in front of it, but something was different.

Unlike moments ago, your face was considerably gaunt, a pitiful sight that made his heart ache just to look at.

It was you, endlessly waiting for him to return.

“Hyung, are you okay?”

“I, I think I need to go.”

Murmuring incomprehensible words, he suddenly bolted upright from the bed. His urgency caused his legs to tangle, nearly making him fall, but you quickly caught him, preventing injury.

“Where are you trying to go?”

“I have to go. You, you’re calling me—”

“But I’m right here.”

He turned around, and Seon Woo-jung was looking at him. The Seon Woo-jung he knew was clearly right here, yet why did he feel such a strong urge to go somewhere else?

“Hyung, I’m here.”

“No, even now, you’re… calling me.”

“No, I haven’t.”

“No, you keep calling.”

He tried to push away your hand that held him, but it wouldn’t let go easily. Seon Woo-jung pulled his struggling shoulders closer and whispered.

“Just stay here with me.”
