Seeing Luka’s usual confidence return, Moye and Alesia broke into smiles.
The two exchanged a look and nodded. They hurriedly pushed aside the slightly warm, lingering mood from the mana refill and raised their magic guns.
Luka said nothing more. She stretched out her right hand, glowing gold, and slammed it hard against the stone wall in front of her.
“World-Shaping Hand!”
She shouted, and mana surged into the stone wall. Her mind seemed to forge a connection with the entire mountain.
She had a feeling that someday, once her mana was strong enough, she could easily control and reshape the entire mountain at will.
Moving mountains and splitting peaks would be trivial.
But with her current weak mana, she could only rely on a portion of the stone wall’s power to protect herself.
Even so, blocking a storm of bullets from hundreds of demon soldiers would be easy.
“Go!”
Luka thrust her right hand forward, lifted off the ground, and flew ahead.
Rumble…
With her movement, the stone wall rapidly extended a long corridor, shielding her as it stretched outward.
It looked as if the entire mountain was sheltering her and clearing a path.
Moye and Alesia followed close behind Luka, unable to hide the shock and bewilderment in their eyes.
Moye’s voice trembled. “Luka, you… you can’t actually be the chosen one of the Magic Goddess, can you?”
“How do you always, at the crucial moment, pull out a top-tier spell that could blind my one eye?”
Alesia’s eyes shimmered with admiration. “Just as expected of the future empress of the empire!”
“This is the matriarch worthy of the Patino family’s unwavering loyalty unto death!”
Luka, busy forging the stone wall ahead, nearly blacked out.
‘I finally forgot about that whole thing with the princess, and now you bring it up again!’
She shook her head and focused her attention back on the World-Shaping Hand.
Finally, with all her effort, the stone corridor pushed through the barrage of magic bullets and emerged beyond the illusion wall.
Swish!
Hundreds of demon soldiers were stunned by the sight of the thick stone wall suddenly extending out of the mountain.
They stared blankly at the absurd sight, forgetting to shoot, and lowered their magic guns without thinking.
For the past ten minutes, following the Skyeye Demon’s orders, the soldiers had been pouring bullet after bullet into the mountain.
They had tried the simplest, crudest approach: kill the three Magica in their small cage without taking any losses.
Now, looking at this wall jutting out of the mountain, more than a meter thick, they realized with dismay that their concentrated fire had been completely useless.
Many soldiers refused to believe it and kept shooting at the wall.
The bullets only carved shallow craters and scattered stone chips, nowhere close to breaking through.
The gunfire gradually faded. The soldiers looked at each other, at a loss.
Meanwhile, inside the stone corridor, Luka withdrew her hand as the golden light faded. She turned to Moye and Alesia.
“Based on distance, we’ve already passed the illusion wall. The sky is directly above us now. As soon as I remove the ceiling, we can fly straight up.”
“Good! I’ll take point and draw their fire!”
Moye stepped forward, patting her thunder cannon. “Luka, lately I’ve only been watching you show off. Time to prove what I can do!”
“Just stick close behind me. Demon soldiers with their pea-shooter guns? I’ll block every shot in no time.”
“Wait!”
Alesia cut off Moye’s boasting. “You don’t have the magic for that. What fire can you actually draw? I’ll go out first and cast a Taunt Word. Once the soldiers are focused on me, you protect Lady Dolonia and get her airborne.”
Moye frowned and started to argue.
“Stop. Listen.”
Luka raised a hand, cutting off the argument seriously. “You two stay right here. Don’t move. I’ll use Phantom Mirage and go invisible to scout the situation first.”
Moye and Alesia froze and tried to stop her.
But Luka slapped the stone wall.
Crack!
A gap split open in the ceiling above, revealing the night sky.
Luka stood there motionless, stiff as a doll.
Moye stepped forward to shake Luka’s shoulder, but the touch was cold, not human.
“It’s a phantom clone.”
Alesia slapped Moye’s hand away. “Lady Dolonia has already gone.”
“What!”
Moye panicked and looked up, but saw nothing.
“Just wait calmly.”
Alesia sighed. “Lady Dolonia’s survival tricks are far better than ours. If you go out now, you’ll only make things worse.”
Now, tens of meters above the ground.
Luka hung invisible in midair, sweeping her gaze around.
In the woods outside the cave, demon soldiers were hidden in dense numbers.
They stood in tight formation, magic guns raised, aiming at the stone corridor with wary eyes.
From the look of it, if they had flown out of the corridor in plain sight, they’d have walked right into a volley.
Luka scanned the ground below, but found no trace of the Invisible Mantis Demon.
Either it had slipped into the woods and blended in with the soldiers, or it had turned invisible again and was lurking nearby.
Luka finished scanning the ground and, with a few seconds of invisibility left, looked up at the sky.
Instantly, her eyes narrowed, and her pupils shrank to pinpricks.
There, beneath the night sky, floating kilometers above the ground, was a giant jellyfish-like creature. It drifted slowly through the air, waving countless slender tentacles.
In place of a jellyfish’s head, it had a single enormous purple eye.
The eye took up most of its body and spun rapidly in all directions, completely unimpeded. It was grotesque.
This ugly creature slowly matched the picture in Luka’s memory from the demon army field guide.
The Skyeye Demon!
Seeing it in person was a hundred times more oppressive than any illustration. It made Luka’s scalp tingle and her limbs go cold.
But the Skyeye Demon wasn’t the only threat in the sky.
Around it, dozens of bat-winged demons flapped their wings, circling the giant eyeball like moths around a streetlamp.
If any enemy approached, they would swarm and tear it to shreds.
Luka stared at the scene, her mind racing for a countermeasure.
But perhaps her gaze had caught the Skyeye Demon’s attention.
Swish!
The purple eye snapped around and locked onto Luka’s position.
Under that huge eye’s gaze, Luka felt an icy dread in her heart. Goosebumps broke out across her back.
It was as if her invisible body had been seen through completely, with no secrets left.
Just as she was about to react.
Whum.
A telepathic command shot into the minds of the countless demon soldiers below.
The soldiers obeyed without hesitation. They raised their magic guns and fired a barrage of bullets at Luka.
“What?!” Luka was stunned.
She immediately recast Phantom Mirage, leaving a clone in place while the real her flew toward the stone corridor.
Whiz whiz whiz!
The bullets came screaming in. The phantom clone behind her was torn into shreds in an instant.
To her shock, the Skyeye Demon kept its gaze locked on her invisible body the whole time. It wasn’t fooled at all.
Following its instructions, the soldiers swiveled their guns and opened another dense volley at the corridor’s opening.
They were aiming at a general direction, but hundreds of guns wove a net of fire so wide it covered nearly every spot.
Luka was far too slow to escape the net.
Caught off guard, her transparent body was covered in bullets.
Crack!
The shield on her skin shattered in an instant.
Then came the searing pain of a hundred shots piercing her body.
Luka’s small body was riddled with holes, bursting into a spray of blood, and split apart.
