Chapter 31: Awakening in the Abandoned Operating Room

I was jogging along the roadside.

To be honest, my father wasn’t particularly biased toward us brothers. I understand why he’s stricter with my older brother—he’s the one who’ll inherit the family business.

And I know I’m not cut out for that kind of life. I can’t be like my brother in personality; the business world isn’t for someone as guileless as me.

Besides, with this girlish face of mine, I knew my father would never choose me to inherit his company.

My mother, on the other hand… she’s the truly biased one. Her care for me is meticulous to the point of spoiling me rotten.

Maybe it’s because I look so much like her, or maybe it’s because she always wanted a daughter…

But from the moment I was born, her mantra changed from ‘I want a daughter’ to ‘Donghui, you’re the cutest!’… I can think of a fitting term for her: a ‘son-con’ (though it’s more like a ‘daughter-con’).

“Hey~ pretty lady, jogging? Want to join me?” A muscular guy suddenly came up beside me.

“…” I’ve seen this situation many times, but it always leaves me speechless.

“Huh? What’s wrong, miss?”

“I’m a man.” I replied calmly.

“Huh!?” I’m sure he heard clearly, but his brain hadn’t processed it.

“I’m a man.” I repeated.

“…” The muscle guy froze, gave me another thorough once-over from head to toe, then silently walked away.

Interesting reaction. First time seeing that.

People’s reactions to being corrected after mistaking me for a woman vary wildly—some are shocked speechless, some laugh, some find it adorable and fall for me instantly, some compliment my beauty.

But seeing someone like this muscle guy who instantly understood, gave me an encouraging look, and silently walked away? That’s a first.

Whatever. I need to run longer, exercise more, build some muscles, and quickly become more manly.

As I ran, I turned a corner and suddenly noticed a woman in white staggering.

Just as I reached her, her legs gave out, and she collapsed heavily to the ground.

“Miss? Are you okay?” I quickly stepped forward to help her up.

“Water~ give me water~” Huh? That voice sounds familiar?

Before I could react, the woman suddenly lifted her head!

“Ah!” I gasped. The woman in white wore a terrifying white mask with a ghastly grin. She swiftly pulled out a bottle of something from her bosom and sprayed it in my face!

“What the hell?!” I screamed.

Instantly, a wave of drowsiness hit me, my eyes closed, and I collapsed.

[Is this another pervert?] That was my last thought before losing consciousness. I’d almost been drugged and [bleep] before.

But if I had a choice about what happened next, I’d definitely choose being drugged and [bleep]!

“Whoa~ cough cough~” I gradually woke from the drowsiness, vigorously shaking my head to clear it, then surveyed my surroundings.

From the look of it, this was a hospital operating room… and the atmosphere was very off.

It was an abandoned operating room, clearly unused for a long time. Everything was dilapidated—peeling, rotting walls, yellowed and torn old papers scattered everywhere…

And yet, despite being abandoned for years, the room had electricity. Only the surgical light above the operating table flickered… And there was an abnormally large iron gate with a massive lock, with darkness beyond.

It reminded me of a game: Silent Hill.

If I were left alone in a place like this, I can honestly tell you, I’d be scared shitless~

But I wasn’t there yet, because I noticed that two other people were lying in this abandoned operating room—a man and a woman.

The room was silent; I could hear their breathing. They were probably just asleep like I had been, not dead…

Meeting teammates in a horror-game-like scenario is the best outcome.

“Hey! Wake up! Dude, wake up!” I crouched beside the guy closest to me and vigorously shook his head.

His neck and arms were wrapped in bandages, and I could tell from his white T-shirt that his upper body was also bandaged.

“Hey! Dude, wake up~” I patted his face.

Suddenly, he opened his eyes without warning!

“Ah!” I jumped back, startled, and slipped, falling backward.

What scared me wasn’t his sudden eye-opening, but that I saw one of his eyes was a yellow beast-like pupil!

“Ah~ miss, are you okay?” He reacted quickly, stepping forward in a flash to grab my hand, while his other hand restlessly wrapped around my waist.

“I’m fine~” I stood up and looked at him. The yellow beast pupil had disappeared, replaced by a normal eye.

Had I imagined it?

“Miss? Miss, are you okay?” he asked.

“Sorry, I was spacing out.”

“My name is Li Xiaobai. May I ask yours? And what happened?” His eyes lit up. That look… I’ve seen it many times.

“I’m Luo Donghui… I’m a man.” I’ve said that sentence countless times in my life. Huh? Li Xiaobai—that name sounds so familiar?

“Luo Donghui? I feel like I’ve heard that somewhere?” He rubbed his chin in thought, then suddenly realized something was off. “What?! A man?!”

Then, just like the muscle guy earlier, he looked me over from head to toe, his mouth hanging open like he’d swallowed an egg, completely unable to react.

This reaction is pretty common—shocked speechless.

“…” I stayed silent, waiting for him to process.

Finally, he put his hand on my shoulder and said with a sorrowful expression, “S-sorry, bro… I mistook you for a woman… and had improper thoughts. Damn me!”

“Hehe~ it’s fine.” I was speechless. This was the first time someone had so readily admitted it.

“Your name is Luo Donghui… Then what’s your relation to Luo Dongba?”

“Dongba is my older brother. Huh? Wait~ You said your name is Li Xiaobai? The freshman who beat up my brother in college?” I remembered; my mom mentioned it at dinner just now.

“Uh~ that’s me.” He looked a bit embarrassed.

“Hehe~ don’t worry about it. Actually, my brother and I don’t get along well. I’m pretty happy not seeing him at dinner these past few days!” I laughed.

To the outside world, my older brother Luo Dongba is a perfect tall, rich, and handsome guy. But no one is perfect; everyone has a flaw. My brother’s hidden flaw is that he’s a severe momma’s boy! Hehe~ And his mother is a son-con, but not for him. So he hates me for being so doted on by our mother, often mocking me for being effeminate.

Once he mocked me for looking like a woman, and our mother overheard. After that, she completely ignored him, and he basically regarded me as his enemy.

Since he hates me, there’s no way I could like him either.

“Oh, oh~ that’s good.” He smiled and scratched his head.

But he didn’t look very strong, and his smile was a bit goofy. How did he manage to beat my scheming, karate-practicing brother?

“Mm~ Mm?” A female voice came from beside us.

We’d been so busy chatting that we forgot about the girl still lying there. She had woken up on her own and was slowly getting up. She wore a short skirt school uniform, looking like just a high school student (forgetting that I’m also a high school student myself).

I stepped forward to help her up, asking, “Are you okay?”

As soon as I helped her up, she immediately pushed me away, leaning against the wall and watching me warily. But when she saw that I looked like a good person—or rather, someone harmless, or perhaps a woman—her tense expression relaxed a bit. “Who are you? Where is this?”

“I’m Luo Donghui, but I don’t know where this is either.”

“You… are a man?” she whispered in surprise.

“Yes!” I answered excitedly. Finally, someone who could tell at a glance that I’m a man!

“My name is Mo Xiao’ai. I… you!” When she saw Li Xiaobai behind me, her eyes widened, her expression shocked, as if she’d seen something terrifying. “You! Why are you here? Could it be?!”

“Huh? What about Xiaobai?” I was utterly confused.

In the next instant, Xiaobai flashed past me, grabbed the girl by the neck, and pinned her whole body onto the table.

“Cough cough~” The girl choked, coughing.

“Xiaobai, what are you doing?!” I immediately tried to separate them, but I found Xiaobai’s hand was as immovable as steel. He was completely different from the goofy boy moments ago—cold! stern! murderous! If I didn’t stop him, I fully believed he would choke the girl to death!
