Join the Server“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven… twelve people. Quite a welcome.” Li Xiaobai stared at the armed crowd and spoke coldly.
I gripped my pistol tightly. My palms were sweaty, and I watched him nervously. Panic surged in my heart. How could I not have seen this? Our goal was the front door on the first floor. All they had to do was wait for us to come to them, and they’d catch us.
When they saw us arrive, everyone turned and glared at me with vicious eyes. They held weapons like machetes, steel pipes, and hatchets.
“That’s them,” a burly man holding twin blades shouted to the crowd. He strode toward me aggressively.
But he only took a few steps before an older burly man with long hair and a stubbly beard, wielding a hatchet, grabbed his arm and barked, “They have a gun.”
Those words stopped everyone in their tracks. No one dared move forward. No one wanted to be the first.
“…” They said nothing, unwilling to advance.
“…” We said nothing either, staring at the door just ahead.
There were fifteen people in the first-floor lobby. This might have been the largest gathering since the abandoned hospital game began.
But now, dead silence reigned. No one dared to make the first move. No one spoke. They just glared coldly at their opponents.
“Ahem…” A cough.
At that moment, Mo Xiao’ai, whom Li Xiaobai was carrying in a princess hold, woke up.
“Xiao’ai!” I raised my pistol and glanced at her worriedly. She lay in Li Xiaobai’s arms, her face still pale. Her eyes had lost their usual arrogance, leaving only weakness.
She struggled weakly in Li Xiaobai’s arms and glared at him.
“Don’t move. If your wound reopens, no one can save you,” Li Xiaobai whispered harshly.
“Why… did you save me?” Mo Xiao’ai’s weak voice made my heart ache.
“What are you saying, Xiao’ai? Of course we’d save you. You’re our teammate!”
“You… don’t know the relationship between him and me…” Mo Xiao’ai continued weakly.
“Don’t talk, Xiao’ai…” Indeed, from the moment I saw Li Xiaobai’s deadly tail, I sensed there were secrets between them.
“Ha. You think I wanted to save you? If not for Donghui, I wouldn’t have bothered with a woman like you,” Xiaobai said coldly, a hint of pout in his voice.
“Xiaobai…” He had been desperately anxious while saving her, and he let out a sigh of relief when he saw she was okay.
“…” Mo Xiao’ai closed her eyes, then forced them open to look at me. “Leave me behind. With a half-cripple like me, you can’t escape easily.”
“…” Li Xiaobai was silent, his eyes flickering.
“What are you saying! I have a gun! I will get you out!”
“I actually regained consciousness just now… Black Star… max capacity… eight rounds,” she said in a faint voice.
Eight rounds… The lawyer had fired once, Xiaobai once, I’d fired four times. That made six shots total. I didn’t know how many times the lawyer’s group had fired before. So now the pistol had at most two bullets left. Maybe one. Maybe none.
“Keep it raised. Don’t let them know,” Li Xiaobai said quietly.
“Oh.”
“…” Mo Xiao’ai closed her eyes and said nothing more. Whether she had fallen asleep or passed out again, I didn’t know.
“Looks like we can’t wait. No choice,” Li Xiaobai said coldly, looking at the crowd while holding her. He gently laid Mo Xiao’ai on the ground and signaled for me to take care of her.
Confused, I still crouched down to tend to Mo Xiao’ai, placing her head on my lap to make her more comfortable. I looked up and said, “Xiaobai? What are you…”
“…” Without a word, he took a step forward and faced the many enemies before him.
“Huh? That girl stopped using the gun!”
“Be careful. They might look like kids, but they’ve already been killing for twenty-four hours,” the weatherbeaten old man said.
“Hey, kid! What do you think you’re doing?” the twin-blade giant roared. They saw me suddenly crouch down, put away my pistol, and care for the unconscious girl, while the unarmed youth stepped forward, advancing toward them.
That youth had no weapons. He didn’t seem special. What was he planning? They all had weapons and outnumbered us.
Even so, they didn’t dare act rashly. Having stayed too long in this abnormal place, their nerves were taut. One wrong move and they’d fall into an abyss of no return.
Victory was within reach. Kill these three, and they could escape alive!
“Why won’t you sacrifice yourselves for us? Sacrifice the few for the many! Three of you dead can save countless lives!” suddenly shouted a woman in glasses wielding a kitchen knife, leaning against the back wall.
“She’s right! Just kill yourselves! It’s better for everyone!”
“Then you won’t have to suffer so much.”
“Exactly! If you die, many of us can live!”
“Sacrifice the few for the many! Didn’t your teachers teach you that?”
“Yeah, yeah!”
After that woman spoke, they all agreed with her, clamoring loudly!
“…” I bit my lip and held Mo Xiao’ai without speaking.
“This lady is right! Do you still think you can survive? Do you think you can kill us all? Even if you could…” The old man didn’t finish.
“HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” Li Xiaobai suddenly burst into cold, loud laughter.
“What are you laughing at?” the twin-blade giant roared.
“Do you really think we can’t kill you all? Actually… we don’t even need everyone. Just me… I can kill every single one of you!” Li Xiaobai shouted fiercely.
“What nonsense is this kid talking?”
“You, a brat unarmed? Watch me cut you down!” The twin-blade giant, enraged, prepared to attack Li Xiaobai.
“Cut me down?”
Xiaobai smiled eerily, spread his arms, and sneered loudly, “You lot? You selfish garbage?”
“You’re asking for it! You’re courting death!”
“Kill him!”
This time, not only the twin-blade giant but everyone was enraged. They glared at Li Xiaobai, raised their weapons, and prepared to attack.
“Shrrrk!”
Li Xiaobai grinned, his eyes cold. The spider sting grew from behind him again, snaking over his shoulder and pointing wildly at the crowd, shaking with frenzied excitement.
“Ah!” The glasses woman screamed.
“You!”
“You! What the hell are you?”
“Kid! Don’t play tricks!” The twin-blade giant roared, but the shout couldn’t hide his unease.
“I’d rather betray the world than let the world betray me! Fight violence with violence! You want me to kill myself? People like you, no matter how many die, ten! A hundred! Ten thousand! Even if a hundred million of you die, I wouldn’t feel a thing!”
“My only wish is to live quietly, to have a normal life and a pretty wife…”
“Anyone who tries to destroy my dream… anyone who hurts those I care about… death without mercy!”
Xiaobai pulled a black karambit from his pocket. The next instant, his left eye turned into a sinister yellow snake pupil. The air trembled. An invisible killing intent burst from him!
He spread his arms and grinned again.
“Are you ready?”
