Chapter 54: A Fever and a Fateful Change

When a person suffers from prolonged lack of nutrition, coupled with intense physical exertion and an absence of sunlight, their body naturally begins to falter. To maintain vital signs, the most fundamental response is to send out distress signals, with inflammation and fever being the most common among them.

Inside the tree hollow, Tang Yue gently withdrew her hand from Ye Yu’s slightly feverish forehead, feeling the warmth lingering in her palm. A shadow of solemnity fell across Tang Yue’s fair, luminous face.

Bad news had arrived: Ye Yu had a fever!

In this world where demons and supernatural abilities coexisted, minor ailments like colds and fevers had innumerable cures. Beyond physical methods like taking medicine or getting IV drips,

if economic conditions allowed, one could even request healing ability users to cure the affliction with their powers.

Having Huangpu Pingqing as her best friend, Tang Yue had never paid much attention to trivial illnesses like headaches or fevers. After all, they were usually resolved with a single ability.

Yet, now, looking at the feverish and weakened Ye Yu, Tang Yue felt a sense of helplessness. Here, there was no healer like Huangpu Pingqing, no medicine, and the only food available was the Great Laughing Mushroom, which carried a hint of poison.

Under such dire circumstances, allowing Ye Yu’s fever to persist would undoubtedly worsen her condition. Considering this, Tang Yue gazed at Ye Yu, whose cheeks were flushed from the fever as she lay on the ground.

Tang Yue momentarily set aside her annoyance with the succubus lady beside her, who had been stealing glances. She spoke in a deep, serious tone.

“You Baili, do you know of any edible food for humans in this layer? Or perhaps any medicinal herbs to treat a fever?”

Food?

Medicine?

Listening to Tang Yue’s earnest, mature voice and seeing her brows furrowed in worry, You Baili paused. She then woodenly turned her gaze to Ye Yu, whose forehead was hot and whose fair cheeks were flushed scarlet.

Seeing Ye Yu in such a state, You Baili’s memory drifted back to her time with her human friend, Qianhe. Her friend, Qianhe, had also developed a fever, then became lethargic, before eventually falling into an eternal sleep, never opening her eyes again.

Recalling that past scene, You Baili’s heart skipped a beat. Although her time with Ye Yu had been brief, only a day or two,

she didn’t want to see this kind human, who had gently taught her so many poses, suffer the same fate as Qianhe. Thus, facing Tang Yue’s question, You Baili began to think earnestly.

However, as she pondered, a look of despair slowly crept onto You Baili’s face. As a unique entity born among the demon spirits, she typically didn’t need to eat, leaving her completely clueless about edible food.

As for medicine, the term was utterly foreign to demonesses and demon spirits alike.

“I don’t know. I don’t know either of those, my de—”

Tang Yue had already guessed the outcome, but hearing You Baili, a native inhabitant, explain after careful thought, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment. After all, if nothing was done, Ye Yu’s body would only grow weaker with time.

Tang Yue waved her hand, cutting off You Baili’s peculiar address of ‘my dear.’ Given the critical situation, she temporarily put aside her animosity. After rubbing her temples, she corrected her.

“Don’t call me ‘my dear.’ Tang Yue or Yueyue will do.”

As she corrected her, Tang Yue’s gaze involuntarily fell upon Ye Yu’s lower abdomen and her now platinum-blonde hair. No matter how she looked at it, the cause seemed to lie with You Baili.

While the immediate priority was to resolve Ye Yu’s fever, these changes to her body also needed to be treated as a significant matter. Gently, Tang Yue picked up a soft strand of Ye Yu’s platinum-blonde hair.

The texture was soft and comfortable. Witnessing this, Tang Yue’s thoughts drifted back to her childhood. Young Ye Yu had been an avid anime fan, constantly seeking out new shows to watch.

Based on Tang Yue’s observations, the beautiful female protagonists in Ye Yu’s favorite anime, though varied in features, almost always shared one common trait: white hair.

Undeniably, platinum-blonde hair was beautiful, perfectly showcasing a woman’s inherent softness and delicate charm. Yet, looking at Ye Yu, now with a head of platinum-blonde hair, Tang Yue felt only the irony of fate.

Her little ‘husband,’ a self-proclaimed white-hair enthusiast, surely never imagined she would one day become a white-haired beauty herself!

Tang Yue brought a strand of the platinum-blonde hair to her nose, gently sniffing the faint, inexplicable fragrance it carried. She then looked at You Baili, who stood beside her, a worried expression on her face.

On You Baili’s small, palm-sized face, confusion and panic were evident, even a faint mist of tears had gathered in her eyes. The pair of small black wings on her back drooped like deflated balloons.

Seeing this, perhaps out of affection for Ye Yu, Tang Yue found You Baili, the demon spirit, a little more agreeable now.

“You Baili, do you know why ‘husband’s’ hair turned white, and what that mark on her lower abdomen is?”

Thanks to this, Tang Yue’s questioning voice was much softer. You Baili paused at Tang Yue’s gentle inquiry, then belatedly realized that Ye Yu had, at some point, gained a head of platinum-blonde hair.

As her gaze shifted to Ye Yu’s flat lower abdomen, which bore the same mark as her own, You Baili’s eyes widened in astonishment. She distinctly sensed that the current Ye Yu, unlike the human she first met,

now possessed an aura almost identical to her own—an indescribable sense of familial closeness. This unique experience left You Baili momentarily stunned.

After her brief shock, she recalled her own special trait: ever since childhood, she had never been attacked by demons. A thought suddenly surfaced in You Baili’s mind.

Since Ye Yu had been imbued with her aura, could it be that she, too, would be immune to demon attacks? If that were true, wouldn’t it mean that, unlike You Baili’s own special constitution which made her vulnerable to humans, her ‘husband’ Ye Yu could safely walk out of this abyss?

At this thought, You Baili felt a pang of reluctance. However, looking at Ye Yu, whose brows were lightly furrowed in her sleep, and after some deliberation, she finally spoke honestly.

“Sister Yueyue, I feel like ‘husband’ has been imbued with my aura. It’s very possible she won’t be attacked by demons now!”

As You Baili’s words fell, Tang Yue’s eyes lit up. If Ye Yu wouldn’t be attacked by demons, then perhaps Tang Yue could indeed lead her out of this abyss.

Unlike her initial disoriented fall, Tang Yue had noticeably felt her strength increase during these past few days with Ye Yu. Summoning her blood wings and flying up with Ye Yu wasn’t entirely impossible.

But then a new problem arose: Ye Yu was immune to demon attacks because she had been imbued with You Baili’s aura. Tang Yue, however, was not. What was she to do?

As this new dilemma emerged, Tang Yue fell into deep thought. While she was diligently trying to figure out a solution, a cool breeze drifted in through the tree hollow entrance,

causing Ye Yu, in her sleep, to shiver involuntarily. Seeing this, Tang Yue, instinctively wanting to prevent Ye Yu from catching a chill, unconsciously draped her own dress, which was scattered on the ground, over Ye Yu to keep her warm.

And just as the dress covered Ye Yu’s smooth, tender body, a ‘punishable’ idea suddenly flashed in Tang Yue’s mind.

If she didn’t have Ye Yu’s aura, then she would simply acquire it. What if… what if she and Ye Yu wore the same dress? Would she still be attacked by demons then?
