Chapter 19: The Main Wife’s Arrival

“Wife, listen to my explanation!”

“Tang Yue, listen to my explanation!”

Inside the quiet cafeteria, a second ago, a crowd of students had been seething with indignation at the affectionate, ‘dog-ababusing’ actions of Ye Yu and Huangpu Pingqing, who seemed very much like a couple.

Now, however, with Tang Yue’s arrival and the sound of their anxious explanations, the collective frustration of the onlookers dissipated, replaced by expressions of eager curiosity.

After all, the dynamic between one man and two women, no matter how one looked at it, was far from normal. This was a much-anticipated spectacle: catching a mistress in the act!

All eyes were fixed on them.

‘Rip into each other, quick!’

Ye Yu was oblivious to the thoughts of the surrounding crowd, who were eager for more drama.

At this moment, he only regretted choosing a seat so close to the cafeteria entrance.

If only they had been slightly further away, he would have had time to react before his Tang Yue arrived, and things wouldn’t have turned out this way.

Now, looking at Huangpu Pingqing’s hand, still holding a handkerchief stained with a few drops of vegetable juice near his cheek, Ye Yu felt his entire world collapse.

He recalled her bold declaration just moments ago.

His mouth, still tasting of the vegetable juice, widened as he tried to speak, but after a moment of gathering his thoughts, he swallowed the words back down.

After all, in this situation, anyone would see it as a complete misunderstanding!

While the honest Ye Yu was flustered, muttering ‘uh-uh-uh,’ Huangpu Pingqing initially panicked for a brief moment.

However, upon remembering that her relationship with Ye Yu was merely a ‘human shield’ arrangement, she quickly composed herself.

As a girl, Huangpu Pingqing decided to gauge her best friend’s attitude before choosing how to explain.

Tang Yue was still wearing her form-fitting mission uniform. Her slender figure was accentuated by the sportswear, her legs straight and slim, and her arms crossed over her chest.

This posture made her delicate, impossibly slender waist appear even more striking.

Facing her best friend in this stance, Huangpu Pingqing let out a sigh of relief.

Having spent several years with Tang Yue, she had naturally noticed some of her best friend’s habits. According to Huangpu Pingqing’s observations, if Tang Yue were truly angry, she would most likely adopt a demure pose, with her right leg slightly bent and her left arm akimbo.

The current posture of crossed arms and straight legs was the complete opposite of her angry stance. Seeing that her best friend wasn’t overly furious, Huangpu Pingqing felt a wave of relief.

Only then did she dare to gather her courage, raise her head, and cautiously look at Tang Yue’s face.

Today, Tang Yue had tied her thick black hair into a simple high ponytail, as she was going to work for the demon-hunting squad. Tang Yue was quite tall for a girl, around 168 centimeters, and with the high ponytail, she appeared even more statuesque.

Her fair, smooth face showed no signs of jealousy or distress; in fact, a faint, toothless smile played on her lips.

However, her apricot eyes were now gazing down at her from above.

Sitting in her seat, Huangpu Pingqing felt Tang Yue’s condescending gaze, her arms crossed, and a slight smirk on her lips.

At this moment, Huangpu Pingqing felt as if she was experiencing a strange illusion. It was like the look a queen in an ancient palace drama would give a concubine.

‘Ugh… it just feels so weird, no matter how I think about it.’

This unsettling sensation made Huangpu Pingqing forget the explanation she had prepared. As she stood there in a daze, Tang Yue had already walked to her right side.

The cafeteria at Cloudrise Academy featured traditional 2×2 integrated tables and chairs, designed for four people.

Ye Yu and Huangpu Pingqing had both been sitting on the right side of the table. Faced with Tang Yue’s charming smile, the guilty Huangpu Pingqing naturally yielded her seat and moved to the left.

Seeing her best friend vacate the still-warm seat, a gentle curve appeared on Tang Yue’s pure and pristine features. Her eyebrows arched, and she tilted her head slightly, speaking with a charming smile.

“Xiao Qing, very good. It seems you’re quite aware of your place as a ‘little wife’!”

Tang Yue’s voice was a perfect ‘older sister’ tone, laced with a playful tease. It was gentle yet warm, carrying a hint of allure and the aura of someone in a superior position.

If, just moments ago, Huangpu Pingqing had only a vague suspicion during their eye contact, thinking her best friend was merely joking, then now, seeing Tang Yue specifically make her give up her seat and hearing that teasing voice, combined with the morning’s phone call, waves crashed within Huangpu Pingqing’s heart.

A daring conjecture surfaced in her mind. ‘It seems my best friend is serious about me being Ye Yu’s ‘little wife’?’

‘So, she’s asserting her position as the main wife?’

‘Ugh… as this realization dawned on her, Huangpu Pingqing’s entire mind crashed. She knew her best friend liked Ye Yu, but finding a ‘little wife’ for Ye Yu? No matter how she thought about it, something felt wrong!’

‘Besides, if that were truly the case, Ye Yu would be far too fortunate! No, it must be a misunderstanding on my part! It must be!’

“Tang Yue… Y-Y-Yue… Wife, listen to me! Bottle and I are not… what you just saw! I’m really not fickle; it was all an accident.”

While Huangpu Pingqing was lost in her confusion, the honest Ye Yu, who had calmed down for a while, finally snapped back to reality. Having never had a fickle experience since childhood, he was completely inexperienced in such a ‘shuraba’ situation. Indeed, he had never even imagined such a scenario.

At this moment, facing the seated Tang Yue, Ye Yu was exceptionally nervous. It was like the feeling of knowing you’d stayed out too late and were going home to be scolded, yet still having to go.

Due to his extreme nervousness and Tang Yue’s powerful aura, Ye Yu’s explanation naturally came out a bit stuttered.

Upon hearing Ye Yu’s explanation, Tang Yue finally shifted her attention from her best friend to him across the table. In truth, Tang Yue believed the sincerity of Ye Yu’s words.

After all, she had been with this ‘childhood husband’ since he was three years old, and she naturally trusted his character. Furthermore, as a Blood, Tang Yue could hear that Ye Yu’s heart was beating very steadily as he spoke, indirectly proving he wasn’t lying.

Knowing the truth was one thing, and being touched by Ye Yu’s genuine devotion and his rejection of her best friend’s beauty was another.

However, considering her unique physiology as a Blood, different from humans, Tang Yue ultimately smiled sweetly after a brief moment of thought.

To Ye Yu and Huangpu Pingqing’s astonishment, she spoke in a sugary voice, “It’s alright, Husband. I only need to be your main wife!”

Ye Yu: ‘???’

The crowd of onlookers in Cafeteria D: ‘!!!!!!!’

Huangpu Pingqing: ‘???’

‘Why do I feel like I’ve been manipulated?’
