Chapter 67: The Witches’ Den

“Also?” Feihua seized on the keyword in Bai Muxue’s words.

“Don’t tell me another witch tried to recruit you? That’s not right. Changfeng City should only have one villain witch organization, and it’s ours.”

“…It’s not a villain witch organization. Anyway, stop guessing. You’ll never figure it out.” Bai Muxue said.

[Hey, so what exactly is going on?] Bai Ye asked through telepathy.

She was genuinely curious about this.

Her gossip-loving soul was burning.

“It’s nothing much. Lin Yushi just added me as a friend a little while ago.” Bai Muxue answered. “Oh, right, she’s also a magical girl.”

“For real?” Bai Ye was clearly a bit shocked.

“Of course it’s true.” Bai Muxue’s answer was certain.

“That doesn’t add up. If she’s a magical girl, I should have sensed the mana in her body the instant I saw her.” Bai Ye was still puzzled.

“Maybe her magic is a special kind. Who knows.” Bai Muxue didn’t know the reason either, so she just answered casually.

“Since you say so, I’ll stop guessing.” Feihua said. “So, want to add each other as friends?”

“Sure.” Bai Muxue said.

And so Feihua successfully friended Bai Muxue.

“So about my earlier proposal…”

“Absolutely not.” Before Feihua could finish, Bai Muxue cut her off.

“It’s five hundred thousand a month!”

“Even if it were a million a month, I still wouldn’t take on such a dangerous job! Money can be earned back, but I only have one life!”

Even if they beat her to death, Bai Muxue would never join Feihua and her group.

The surroundings went quiet for a moment.

“Don’t be in such a hurry to refuse.” Feihua spoke up, breaking the silence.

“What, are you going to slip me some kind of mind-control potion?” Bai Muxue quickly backed up a few steps, putting Bai Ye in front of her.

“?” Bai Ye looked at Bai Muxue behind her.

“So, is there anything else you want to say?” Bai Ye asked again.

“Actually, what I wanted to say is, I can take you to visit our headquarters and meet the other witches.”

“They’re really strong. What if you go there and suddenly change your minds?”

“…” Bai Muxue fell silent.

“Nope, not going.” Bai Muxue waved her hand.

“Why?” Feihua asked.

“Why else? That’s your headquarters! I wouldn’t be surprised even if you had five hundred assassins lying in wait there!” Bai Muxue shouted.

“If the two of us go, we’d probably be seized the moment we walk in and forced to sign away our freedom!”

“???” Feihua asked in confusion. “What exactly do you take us for?”

She felt that Bai Muxue might have a slightly enormous misunderstanding about them.

“Although we really aren’t proper people, we’ve never forced other witches.” Feihua said.

“Like last time, a witch refused us on the spot, and we didn’t do anything to her.”

“Really?” Bai Muxue asked.

“That’s for real.” Feihua answered.

Bai Muxue exchanged another glance with Bai Ye.

[Can we go?] Bai Muxue asked through her inner voice.

“Hmm… let me take a look.” Bai Ye activated her magic and checked Feihua’s current emotional state.

She still saw no malice in Feihua.

It really did seem like she just wanted to bring them over for a visit.

“Then let’s go take a look.” Bai Ye made the decision.

Feihua assumed Bai Ye and Bai Muxue were staring blankly at each other because they were thinking, so she didn’t interrupt.

“After our unanimous decision, we can go with you to take a look.” Bai Muxue said.

“Great!” Feihua was so excited she nearly jumped.

“Come on, come on. Pay the bill first.” Bai Ye urged Feihua to settle up.

“Oh, okay.” Feihua nodded and pushed open the door, walking out.

Bai Ye and Bai Muxue followed close behind.

At the front desk, the three found that the person on duty was still Lin Yushi.

“Working the front desk and moving stuff at the same time. Miss, you really are busy.” Bai Ye teased.

“It’s actually fine.” Lin Yushi replied, then glanced at Bai Muxue standing next to the other two.

There was a hint of curiosity and probing in her eyes.

Bai Muxue’s back went cold under Lin Yushi’s gaze.

“If you have time, I’d still like to treat you to a meal.” Lin Yushi said to Bai Muxue. “You won’t refuse me, right?”

“No, no.” Bai Muxue quickly shook her head.

“That’s good.” A smile appeared on Lin Yushi’s face.

After Feihua paid, the three walked out of the hotpot restaurant.

“What’s your relationship with her? It feels like it’s not that simple.” Feihua looked ready to grab some popcorn.

“What’s there that’s simple or not? We just met and became friends.” Bai Muxue answered.

“How is that possible? Who treats someone they just met to a meal?” Feihua clearly didn’t believe Bai Muxue.

“Anyway, that’s how it is. Believe it or not.” Bai Muxue shrugged.

“My intuition tells me you might be hiding something.” Feihua suddenly said.

“…” Bai Muxue didn’t respond.

She was afraid that if they talked a bit more, Feihua would figure out what color panties she was wearing today.

Why were some people’s intuitions so accurate?

Was this the legendary sixth sense?

“Forget it. Come with me.” Feihua stopped trying to pry and focused on leading the way.

Under Feihua’s lead, Bai Ye and Bai Muxue gradually left the bustling city center.

“So where exactly are you taking us?” Bai Ye looked around.

There wasn’t a single person here, not even a cat. Weeds grew everywhere.

‘Can anyone really live in a place like this?’

“Our home.” Feihua answered.

“Or rather, our original home. Someone was too lazy to move out, so even after we got other places, we still stay here often.”

“I’m starting to doubt how reliable you people are.” Bai Muxue suddenly said. “Oh wait, I don’t think I ever thought you were reliable in the first place.”

“Is this what they call consistency…” Feihua said sheepishly.

“Yes, indeed.” Bai Muxue nodded.

Feihua quickened her pace, and the three of them stood in front of a house.

If Bai Muxue had to give her opinion, this house was a bit retro.

“Um, I have a question.” Bai Muxue said suddenly.

“What is it?”

“I’m curious. With this living situation, how can you afford to pay out fifty thousand a month in wages?” Bai Muxue continued. “Don’t tell me you mean fifty thousand in ghost money.”

“Living here doesn’t mean we’re broke.” Feihua answered.

“But I feel like not a single thing about you guys is reliable! Is it too late to leave now?” Bai Muxue truly felt that Feihua and her group were unreliable.

“Since you’re already here, at least come in and sit for a bit!” Feihua still didn’t give up.

Bai Ye was almost tempted to give Feihua a never-give-up award.

Bai Ye stepped forward and separated the two.

“Since we’re already here, let’s at least go in and sit down before we talk.” Bai Ye said to Bai Muxue.

“Fine.” Bai Muxue didn’t say anything more.
