Join the ServerHan Xiao took the last drag of his cigarette, dropped the butt on the ground, and crushed it out.
His face was cold as he said, “Xiaobai, have you had enough fun? If so, go home.”
With that, he started walking toward me. But if he wanted to reach me, he’d have to get past those Judges.
He walked step by step toward me. I had to admit, this cold man in a black suit with silver hair really had presence. You could tell he’d been through the underworld.
“Move aside,” Han Xiao said coldly to the six Judges in front of him. Among them, only the old Judge had any real strength. The rest were just common rookies.
The old Judge stared back with a dark expression, his mind churning. But he already knew how it would end. If a fight broke out, everyone except him would be taken down in an instant.
Code name 10: Phantom Black Panther. He called himself Black Panther; “Phantom” was a nickname others gave him. But since his true race couldn’t be confirmed and his racial traits were vague, he also went by “Black Storm Dragon.”
His speed rivaled that of the Nightingale clan, the overlords of the Southern District. And his combat experience and skill could leave the Nightingale Princess of this district in the dust.
Seeing them hesitate to clear the way, Han Xiao wasn’t in a hurry. He took out his lighter again, lit another cigarette, and stood there smoking coldly in front of them.
“Phew.” He blew out a mouthful of smoke. Suddenly, a mutation point like a black scimitar emerged from him. If he got annoyed, he might go on a killing spree.
“…” The Judges stepped back in fear. Cold sweat rolled down the foreheads of the younger ones. Running into the Phantom Black Panther here was just as bad as meeting a Nightingale in the Southern District. They had hit the jackpot.
“…” I was speechless too.
Invisible showing off was the deadliest. That display of dominance… I’d give it a ten out of ten. I thought I was already good at posturing, but someone else was even better!
Sigh. Looked like there was no need for me to get involved. I retracted the Spider Sting and tucked the black claw blade back into my pocket.
“We’re leaving…” the old Judge said unwillingly at last. He led the others cautiously past Han Xiao, ready to leave the street.
Han Xiao didn’t stop them. He just kept smoking.
Still showing off.
I scratched my head helplessly, then noticed there was still one left. I shouted at them, “Hey! There’s still one on the ground! Aren’t you going to take care of him?”
They turned to look. The old Judge said darkly, “You go first.” Then he walked back toward us alone.
He came up to me, helped up the young Judge I had choked unconscious, and turned to leave.
“Hey, old man. You have to carry someone back every time. Aren’t you tired?” I joked.
“One day, you’ll get what you deserve, monsters.”
The old Judge eventually disappeared at the end of the street. In the dark street, only Han Xiao and I were left. The farce was over.
Without me noticing, Han Xiao had walked up to me.
“What the hell! You appear out of nowhere! Trying to scare me to death? Hey, Han Xiao, are you really this free? Don’t you have a bar to run? What about your underworld business?” I jumped and started complaining.
“Hmph! Brat, I saved you again, you know that? Last time you killed their people; this time they would have chopped you into minced meat. If it wasn’t for me… heheh.” Han Xiao said coldly with a straight face.
It’s hard to imagine someone saying that with a completely straight face, but that’s exactly what I saw.
“…” Even though I’d seen it many times, I still needed a moment to recover each time. “No problem. Look, I’m perfectly fine, aren’t I?”
“Kid, you need to lie low for a while. What you’ve done is too extreme. Don’t make any more trouble for now,” Han Xiao said coldly.
“Mm, okay.” I thought he was right. Lately, to numb myself, I’d been fighting the Judges constantly. The pain and bleeding helped me forget everything. But looking back, what was the point? I figured I should take a break.
“It’s dawn. Time to open my bar. I’m off,” Han Xiao said.
“Mm, see you. I’ve got school too.”
“See you. Drop by the Wuyou House agency when you have time.” With that, Han Xiao turned and left.
“You’re still young, enjoy life! Brat, your face is so haggard, you don’t even look human!”
“…” I stood there, scratched my head, and muttered to myself, “Ah, better go home and change clothes first. At this rate, I’ll have nothing left to wear.”
I looked helplessly at my torn clothes and slowly walked toward the apartment.
Back home, I changed into a new set of clothes and put away the torn sports jacket. I’d give it to Sister Xiyuan to mend when I had time. I checked my phone. Ah, looks like I was running late again. I’d be late for school. Despite the resignation, I packed my things and got ready to leave for school.
“Ah, forgot this.” I went back to my room, took out the black claw blade from my pocket, and placed it on the table. “Bringing a knife to school doesn’t seem right.”
I walked to school with a small waist bag. A guy’s daily carry was light, but for someone like me who hated hassle, it was even lighter. Just a wallet, phone, and keys. Even this small bag felt too big.
These past days… they were truly the biggest turning point and the darkest period of my life. Not only had I been killed once, I’d been beaten half to death several times, and I’d been dragged into some damn death game.
Walking on the street, I could feel the stares of passersby. I could fully feel the world’s malice. It must be because of my haggard, inhuman face, this pale, unpleasant face.
I hated the way others looked at me. Slowly, I pulled the hood of my sports jacket over my head and tugged the brim down to cover my face, walking my own path in silence.
