Join the ServerThe light from the tablet screen played across Xia Qimeng’s face, making the interest in her eyes unmistakable.
She zoomed in on the image, her gaze lingering on an elaborate, dark-style magical girl outfit.
Mysterious, elegant.
A perfect fit for her.
Xia Qimeng picked up her phone and called the Paranormal Bureau chief’s private line.
“It’s me, Ms. Xia.” The chief’s voice came through the speaker.
“I sent a picture to your phone.” Xia Qimeng’s tone was casual. “Make an exact replica of this outfit, in my size. Before eight tonight, the finished piece needs to be delivered to Sublevel 17.”
“This… Ms. Xia, the deadline is tight. The tailor might…”
“If you can’t do it, I’ll come up tomorrow and tear this place apart.”
Click.
The call ended.
Xia Qimeng stood and walked over to the huge floor mirror in the corner.
She recalled the scene from the anime she had just watched and adjusted her stance.
She raised her right hand slowly, slender fingers closing around empty air.
Her chin lifted, and her gaze shifted into a look of condescending dominance.
“Make a contract with me, Yiyi.”
“Become my lover, become my captive. Let me own every part of you!”
Xia Qimeng looked at herself in the mirror, tracing a finger along her cheek.
She could already picture Lu Yiyi blushing, kneeling obediently at her feet.
Those big, watery eyes, full of adoration and submission, swearing utter loyalty to her…
Just thinking about it made heat rise through her body.
She walked back to the desk and picked up the pink insulated lunchbox, stroking the strawberry pattern on it.
Two years.
For two full years, the constant tug of paranormal power had tormented her nerves without pause.
For her, merely living was a long, drawn-out suffering.
Until that innocent, adorable girl barged into her world.
In just two short days, she had filled her broken heart.
That stillness, that peace settling over her soul, was far too addictive.
She would never allow her one and only remedy to leave her side, not even a step.
Material ties were always the most fragile.
They could be given one day and taken back the next on some excuse.
Only absolute obedience, carved into the depths of a soul, lasted forever.
Yiyi would still come tomorrow.
Once the door closed, Sublevel 17 would be her “sweet wife training room,” and no one would interrupt her perfect lover training plan.
As for the token of the contract…
Xia Qimeng remembered how Lu Yiyi’s eyes had shone when she saw the black bellflower seal on the evaluation form.
The little one loved that design.
If things went smoothly, three days at most.
She could make Yiyi ask on her own, crying and begging her to brand that exclusive mark on her body.
Her chest. Her stomach. Or… someplace even more hidden.
Xia Qimeng leaned back in her chair.
Her eyes, black interlaced with color, flickered dully beneath the dim ceiling lamp.
She couldn’t wait for tomorrow’s “psychological counseling.”
When that hardcore socially anxious otaku shut-in saw the outfit of her beloved 2D character standing in the real world, what expression would she make?
She would definitely blush and agree to everything in a daze.
“Time passes so slowly… little Yiyi.”
Xia Qimeng murmured, hugging the pink lunchbox to her chest.
Elsewhere.
MixC Shopping Mall.
Lu Yiyi sat on a chair outside the ice cream shop, surrounded by shopping bags big and small.
She held three cups of ice cream in different flavors.
A spoonful of sea salt from the left cup, a spoonful of vanilla from the right, and a bite of chocolate from the middle.
Ahh, bliss!
Living was for eating sweets!
Lu Yiyi squinted happily, her feet swinging in the air.
This crazy day had been a roller coaster.
In the morning, she walked into the office, worried she’d be scolded by Sister Zhang for stepping in with her left foot first.
By noon, she’d watched Wang Li get sliced up like sashimi, scared out of her mind.
Then, in the afternoon, she stepped out of the elevator.
Boom.
She was suddenly the entire Paranormal Bureau’s most prized treasure.
Dedicated psychological consultant.
No grunt work. No report writing. No need to watch anyone’s mood.
Just now, Finance had transferred the tenfold bounty reward plus a staggering relocation fee into her salary card.
Looking at that long string of zeros, Lu Yiyi counted three times.
She was living the life of a wealthy heiress now!
The shopping bags next to her were full of desserts and snacks, plus several pretty dresses.
And all of it was thanks to Miss Xia.
Lu Yiyi swallowed the last bite of ice cream and tossed the cup into the trash.
She pressed her hands together and bowed to Xia Qimeng in her heart, over and over.
Miss Xia was such a good person!
Pretty, sweet-voiced, and good-tempered. A fellow 2D enthusiast is a treasure!
We had such a nice chat today. What should I talk to her about tomorrow? What treats should I bring?
The sandwich was already done, and so was the strawberry cake.
I need something new.
Lu Yiyi rubbed her chin, thinking hard.
Since Miss Xia liked anime too, why not make a food that often shows up in anime?
Omurice!
Yes, that one!
A golden omelet wrapped around tomato chicken fried rice, piping hot, with a big heart drawn in ketchup on top.
When serving it, she’d make a heart with both hands and recite the classic line:
“Get delicious, moe moe, love magic, chu~”
Miss Xia would be so happy!
At that thought, Lu Yiyi cupped her face in her hands, imagining Xia Qimeng eating the omurice with curved, smiling eyes, and giggled to herself.
Geez, why was she thinking about Miss Xia all the time?
When shopping for clothes, she’d think this sailor uniform would make Miss Xia call her cute.
When passing a dessert shop, she’d wonder if Miss Xia would like this matcha mousse.
Even while eating ice cream, she was planning tomorrow’s dessert for Miss Xia.
Huh…?
Lu Yiyi tilted her head, her silly smile slowly fading.
That was strange.
Was she… thinking about Miss Xia a bit too much?
Something wasn’t right.
She was severely socially anxious.
In six years of middle and high school, she’d only made one friend: Lin You.
When they talked, it was always Lin You who did the talking.
Lu Yiyi just listened faithfully, letting the other person steer everything.
Whatever Lin You wanted to eat, she ate. Wherever Lin You decided to go, she followed.
In the five days at the Bureau, she stayed quiet whenever possible, always the one passively accepting whatever was arranged.
But with Miss Xia, she was actively thinking about the other person’s likes and racking her brain to please her.
The feeling was unfamiliar.
It was as if something inside her was urging her on, making her think about that person endlessly, making her want to get closer.
If she couldn’t see her, she missed her.
The moment that thought surfaced, Lu Yiyi shivered.
She remembered how she’d involuntarily obeyed Miss Xia in the containment room.
The moment she smelled that floral scent, her brain stopped working.
The moment she met those eyes, she forgot how to think.
And that kiss on her cheek. And that domineering line: “If one comes, I’ll kill one.”
The soft touch was still on her face. Lu Yiyi touched her cheek without thinking.
The cloying sweetness of the ice cream still lingered on her tongue, but a prickling chill ran up the back of her neck.
She couldn’t figure out the logic.
She only felt, by instinct, a trace of something she couldn’t quite name… danger.
Miss Xia was good to her.
But that kindness was like a thin, invisible thread around her neck.
Gentle, but tightening and closing in without her ever noticing, until she could no longer break free.
