Join the ServerHeld for a while, that rich fragrance tightly wrapped around Lu Yiyi.
The floral scent kept flowing into her lungs with each breath.
Her mind, already not very clear, was about to turn into a puddle again.
Her long eyelashes drooped, and her eyelids were too heavy to lift.
Like a kitten attached to a warm stove, she lay limp in Xia Qimeng’s arms, her breathing growing steadier.
This feeling was too amazing.
In the five days since she’d joined the Paranormal Bureau, she’d been on edge the whole time, afraid of making a mistake and getting scolded.
But now, here in the most dangerous cage on the entire base, floor seventeen underground, she felt a comfort she’d never known.
Xia Qimeng held the soft, petite body close, a dark light drifting in her irises where black and color interwove.
She lowered her gaze to admire the dazed, sleepy look on the girl in her arms, her fingertip lingering over that fair face.
The skin was smooth, her temperature a bit low, carrying a girl’s fresh, sweet scent.
‘So obedient.’
She wanted to just keep holding her like this, until the end of time.
Still, she still had business to take care of today.
The little rabbit had been hypnotized by her for the first time, so the teaching progress had to be digested bit by bit.
Xia Qimeng restrained the greed in her eyes, freed her right hand, curled her index finger, and tapped lightly but firmly on Lu Yiyi’s smooth forehead.
“Mm…”
Lu Yiyi woke as if from a dream, her body suddenly shrinking back half an inch.
“Ah!”
She came to her senses, saw what was happening, and her face flushed bright red.
She scrambled out of that soft, fragrant, warm embrace.
This was so embarrassing!
Lu Yiyi blinked her big eyes, looking like she was about to cry.
She had come to do psychological counseling for a reward ten times higher than on the bounty board, and then she’d dozed off several times in a row.
To cover up the awkwardness, she quickly scrambled to find something to talk about.
“Miss Xia, is your mood… a little better today?”
Lu Yiyi nervously poked her two index fingers together, her voice getting quieter.
“Is my task… considered done?”
She didn’t have much confidence.
Think about the past hour or so.
She hadn’t said a single proper sentence for psychological counseling.
She’d only had her leg touched, her waist held, her face pinched, and in the end she’d fallen asleep.
Who did psychological counseling like that?
She quietly looked up at Xia Qimeng.
Miss Xia seemed to really like physical contact.
She was still holding her now.
Was it because she’d been locked underground for so long and was desperately lacking companionship?
That made sense.
Locked away all year in this solid gold cage on floor seventeen, never seeing daylight, without even a living thing to talk to.
If she were in that position, she’d probably have gone crazy already.
Miss Xia hadn’t gone crazy, and she was so gentle.
What did it matter if she pinched and hugged her?
As a well-paid counselor, providing some emotional value was entirely part of the job.
Such a pretty girl, she should have been enjoying her youth in the sunshine, but she was locked up here like a monster… it was just so pitiful.
Xia Qimeng leaned back in her chair, crossing her long legs.
In her hand, she was playing with a strand of smooth black hair she’d taken from Lu Yiyi’s head, her fingertips threading through it and dexterously twisting it around.
“I’m in a much better mood.”
She wound the strand of hair around her finger.
“So consider your ‘first day’ task complete.”
She deliberately stressed the words “first day.”
Lu Yiyi was too happy to notice the deeper meaning behind those words.
She only heard “complete.”
The huge bounty from the board was in her hands!
“Th-thank you for your approval, Miss Xia!”
She was so excited that she bowed twice in a row, then quickly unzipped her canvas bag and rummaged through it.
Before long, she pulled out a palm-sized black device.
This was the “emotional stability state detector” provided by the Paranormal Bureau, used to assess a spirit tamer’s mental danger index.
Out of a hundred points, the lower the number, the more frenzied the target, and the more likely they were to trigger a paranormal revival at any moment.
This thing cost a fortune.
It was said to be made from special paranormal objects and could accurately capture the energy fluctuations inside a spirit tamer.
“Um, Miss Xia.”
Lu Yiyi held the detector in both hands, looking at her eagerly.
“According to the bureau’s rules, I need to take your reading as proof the task is done. Is that okay?”
Xia Qimeng didn’t make things difficult for her.
She generously extended her left wrist.
Lu Yiyi held her breath and pressed the detector’s probe against it.
“Beep.”
The screen flashed twice, then a green number jumped up: 63.
Seeing that number, Lu Yiyi’s eyes went wide.
She turned the detector over and over to check it, even tapping it a couple of times.
According to the file, this disaster-level spirit tamer, who was on the verge of going berserk, usually stayed below the red line of 20 points.
When the previous psychology expert, with fifteen years of experience, had come in for counseling, the reading had been 8 points, enough to trigger a citywide alarm.
And now it was 63, above the passing line!
This was an unprecedented healthy number.
“You still need a signature and seal, right?”
Xia Qimeng tilted her head, breaking through her shock.
“Mm-hmm.”
Lu Yiyi snapped back to attention, quickly pulled an evaluation form out of her bag along with a black pen, and handed them over with both hands.
It was a strict bureau rule.
She needed the target’s personal paranormal power mark as proof before she could collect the reward from the finance department.
Xia Qimeng didn’t take the pen.
She just casually glanced at the evaluation form, her eyes shifting.
For no apparent reason, an extremely faint “hum” sounded in the air.
Before Lu Yiyi could react, the paper’s surface suddenly rippled like water.
When the ripples faded, three flamboyant characters had appeared out of nowhere in the lower right corner of the form, Xia Qimeng.
Next to the signature was also a lifelike pure black bellflower, its petals clearly textured, with a haunting, dark beauty.
This was the exclusive paranormal mark of a disaster-level spirit tamer, absolutely unique.
“Wow…”
Lu Yiyi couldn’t help but let out an amazed gasp.
‘So cool.’
‘She could write without a pen, and even sealed it.’
‘If she could use this to help Sister Zhang write her quarterly work summary, wouldn’t it be done in a second?’
“Do you like this design?”
Xia Qimeng’s voice interrupted her wild thoughts.
Her delicate, charming face leaned in closer, and a sweet floral scent brushed past Lu Yiyi’s cheek, strangely alluring.
“I-it’s pretty nice.”
Lu Yiyi shrank her neck back awkwardly, turning her head slightly, and her cheeks began to burn again.
‘Why does this woman always like to talk so close?’
Xia Qimeng smiled, her gaze sliding down from the girl’s pink earlobe.
It finally stopped at her lower abdomen.
‘Next time, I’ll leave this mark on your body too.’
‘I’ll make you mine, inside and out.’
Of course, she didn’t say that out loud.
Such a dangerous thought would scare the little rabbit away.
She had to take it slow.
Lu Yiyi had no idea she was already being targeted.
She carefully folded the priceless evaluation form, put it in the innermost pocket of her canvas bag, and zipped it up.
‘Awesome! The task was done perfectly!’
She let out a long breath, feeling completely relaxed.
“Well, Miss Xia, I’m off work now. See you tomorrow!”
Lu Yiyi slung her canvas bag on her back, waved at Xia Qimeng, beaming with crescent-shaped eyes and showing two cute little fangs.
The heavy solid gold blast-proof door slid open to both sides.
She walked away with a light step, her twin ponytails bouncing along with her.
Xia Qimeng watched the small figure leave, her gaze landing on the girl’s low twin ponytails.
More precisely, on the two strawberry hair ties.
Earlier, when she’d pulled Yiyi into her arms, a single snow-white hair had been silently wound around one of those ties.
The door closed again, cutting off the pale light from the corridor.
The holding room fell quiet once more.
Xia Qimeng lowered her eyelids, turning over and over the hand that had just touched the girl’s cheek, still lost in that delicate sensation.
“See you tomorrow, Yiyi.”
She murmured softly, her tone tender and lingering.
“From today on… you’re mine.”
