Chapter 68: A Deity’s Arrival

A brilliant silver light illuminated the entire sky, accompanied by a ferocious sonic boom that ripped through the air.

The sound, potent enough to pierce the eardrums of ordinary humans, reverberated throughout the city.

Even Bai Yu was startled by the sheer magnitude of the disturbance, having never anticipated such an overwhelming display.

It felt, to her, even grander than the commotions she had caused within the dream realm.

Only when the silver light finally dissipated did Bai Yu fully grasp the profound impact of her attack.

The monstrous entity Bai Yu had observed moments before had utterly vanished, leaving not even a speck of ash in its wake.

Despite the immense power, Bai Yu had maintained excellent control over the direction of her attack, ensuring no harm came to the few humans whose origins remained a mystery to her.

‘They couldn’t possibly be from Xian City,’ Bai Yu mused, ‘for everyone there was currently ensnared within the dream realm, a divine creation from which even high-tier beings found no escape.’

“What in the world just happened?”

The three Guardians from the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau were utterly aghast, rendered speechless by the astonishing sight before them.

‘Where had the monsters gone?’ they wondered. ‘Those colossal creatures, vanished in a flash of white light? Was this some kind of magic trick?’

‘Or had they fallen victim to an illusion?’

The three exchanged bewildered glances, at a loss for words.

“Old Li, what’s going on?”

The bald man could only turn to their captain, Old Li, the most experienced and senior among them.

The sole woman in the team also gazed at her captain, her face etched with doubt, wondering if they truly were under an illusion.

“It couldn’t have been an illusion,” Old Li declared, his voice firm. “The terrifying spiritual aura we just felt was unmistakably real.”

The captain, now reverted from his lion form to his original slender physique—maintaining the leonine transformation would have doubled his energy consumption—closed his eyes.

He spoke with grave seriousness.

“Furthermore,” he continued, “that spiritual aura was exceptionally pure. It appears to have been a secret art unleashed by a single individual.”

He analyzed the situation with a cool head, though he remained utterly unaware of the whereabouts of the person capable of wielding such a fearsome secret art.

“A single person?”

The woman asked, her voice laced with disbelief. “Could such an attack truly be unleashed by a human? This far exceeds the ninth tier; even if the three of us combined our strength, we might not achieve such destructive power.”

“Yes, it’s highly probable that another deity has descended,” the man replied, his brow furrowed. “After all, such an event is not entirely unprecedented.”

The man felt an immense burden of pressure, for they had no way of knowing what the simultaneous arrival of two deities truly signified.

The most terrifying aspect was the unknown intention of this new, enigmatic deity—was it an Outer God, or one belonging to their own world?

Its motives remained shrouded in mystery, and if it harbored ill will towards humanity, then even sacrificing their lives would likely prove futile against such power.

Cold sweat streamed down the trio’s backs as they floated in the air, back-to-back, their senses meticulously scanning their surroundings, terrified of missing even the slightest movement.

In the distance, Bai Yu had already detected the presence of the three individuals.

Thanks to the terrifying amplification granted by her Divine Radiance state, her vision effortlessly perceived the trio’s situation from afar.

Conversely, the three of them had no means of detecting Bai Yu’s presence. While they might ordinarily rely on spiritual perception, the chaotic spiritual aura left in the wake of Bai Yu’s terrifying secret art rendered them utterly incapable of sensing her.

Bai Yu also noticed the attire worn by the three, recognizing the unmistakable emblem emblazoned upon it.

‘Wasn’t that the symbol of the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau?’

‘They must be here in Xian City to investigate the Outer God’s descent,’ Bai Yu instantly deduced the truth.

Bai Yu pondered silently.

‘Given such a massive disturbance, and with Xian City being the second-largest metropolis in the Dragon Summer Nation, it was only natural for it to command such attention.’

‘Should I approach them?’

‘After all, there was no need for her to remain anonymous.’

‘Her goal was also to dispel the nightmare and free everyone from its grasp.’

‘She suspected the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau shared a similar objective, as she doubted they possessed the true power to directly confront a deity.’

‘Even if they did, they wouldn’t deploy it now. Such a trump card would likely only be used in a moment of existential crisis.’

Deciding against further delay, Bai Yu resolved to make a favorable impression on the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau while her Divine Radiance state was still active, believing it might prove beneficial in the future.

‘A nation’s power was formidable, after all; Bai Yu wouldn’t pass up such an advantage.’

Just as the three Dragon Summer Guardians stood at heightened alert, Bai Yu appeared before them in a swift flash.

Bai Yu had merely flown over, but her incredible speed made it seem as though she had teleported.

This sudden appearance startled the trio immensely, causing them to immediately assume full combat readiness.

The leader, in particular, who had only just reverted from his transformation, instantly shifted back into his lion form, golden fur bristling across his entire body.

Even the glasses he had been wearing shattered instantly, and he glared ferociously at Bai Yu.

The other two also fully activated their spiritual cores, with golden armor and a gleaming longbow materializing in their hands.

“Whoa, why are they already getting aggressive?”

Bai Yu stared blankly at the lion-man before her, wondering why they were so hostile when she hadn’t even attacked.

This turn of events made Bai Yu forget what she was going to say, leaving her frozen in place.

Her only remaining emotion was awkwardness.

The scene became profoundly awkward.

While Bai Yu perceived it this way, the three individuals before her were, in fact, too terrified to utter a single word.

If others knew that the esteemed Dragon Summer Guardians had been startled twice in a row by a being resembling a young girl, they would surely become a laughingstock.

Yet, their current state of tension was known only to themselves. The girl before them, unlike Lili, emanated a completely different aura. While Lili had merely hinted at a divine presence, lacking any truly astonishing celestial aura, Bai Yu was entirely different.

Bai Yu, on the other hand, possessed not only a terrifying spiritual presence but also the undeniable aura of a deity.

Moreover, this spiritual essence was precisely identical to that of the unknown attack they had just witnessed.

‘Had another deity descended upon their world?’

‘No wonder the previous attack was so exaggerated; if it was the might of a deity, then everything made sense.’

Profound shock gripped all three of them; they dared not tear their gaze from Bai Yu, fearing that the deity might take offense and strike them down in the next instant.

‘No one had mentioned the situation would be this terrifying upon their arrival. A dual deity descent, a phenomenon unheard of in millennia, was now unfolding.’

‘And why did both deities appear as young girls? Was there some special reason behind this?’

The three dared not move, and Bai Yu made no significant gestures, leaving both parties simply staring at each other.

Only when the trio realized Bai Yu seemingly had no intention of attacking them did a measure of relief wash over them.

“Esteemed one,” the captain nervously addressed Bai Yu, bowing respectfully but daring not to release his lion transformation, “was that attack just now your doing? And may I inquire about your intentions in coming here?”
