Ellie Roth Charlotte, catching the fragrant scent, furrowed her brows as she watched Bai Yu eat biscuits and drink milk. ‘She even has *milk*?’
A twitch played at the corner of Ellie Roth Charlotte’s lips. It felt as if Bai Yu were merely on a leisurely trip. ‘Who gets suddenly teleported and still manages to have so many provisions?’ she wondered, observing Bai Yu’s continuous snacking.
Ellie Roth Charlotte was on the verge of tears; her stomach had begun to rumble loudly. Yet, her pride would never allow her to humble herself and beg Bai Yu for food.
Her temper was already notoriously short, making her current demeanor towards Bai Yu, her fated enemy, an exceptional display of restraint. After all, Bai Yu possessed an inexplicable allure that drew her in, not quite to the point of love or hatred, but certainly close.
Thus, the thought of pleading with Bai Yu for sustenance was unthinkable. She was a genius of the Charlotte Family; how could she possibly stoop so low?
Slurp, slurp. Bai Yu continued to drink her milk through a straw, deliberately making loud slurping noises that echoed directly into Ellie Roth Charlotte’s ears.
Ellie Roth Charlotte suspected Bai Yu was doing it on purpose; how could anyone drink milk so loudly otherwise?
But it didn’t end there. Bai Yu even activated her [Fantasy World] to conjure a simple fire spell, causing ordinary flames to flicker on the ground.
She had, after all, tried Heaven’s Fire, only to find it incinerated food into charcoal. Hence, a regular flame was far more suitable.
Ellie Roth Charlotte watched Bai Yu’s movements, realizing that Bai Yu was using ordinary flames. ‘So, she *can* use regular fire,’ she thought, a sense of indignation rising within her.
It felt as though she had been thoroughly played, as if Bai Yu were deliberately dancing on her last nerve.
Bai Yu opened a bag of bread and began to toast it over the fire, the enticing aroma continuously wafting through the cold air. Unbeknownst to Ellie Roth Charlotte, Bai Yu even subtly conjured a gentle breeze with her [Fantasy World] to enhance the effect.
Bread alone wasn’t enough; Bai Yu then produced marshmallows, her absolute favorite treat to roast.
Ellie Roth Charlotte struggled to resist inhaling the delicious scents, but the gnawing hunger in her stomach proved impossible to ignore.
With a sigh, Ellie Roth Charlotte closed her eyes, plunging into a fierce internal struggle.
When she finally opened her eyes, they were met with a pair of slender, fair calves.
Below them, white ankle socks and small leather shoes completed the picture, a combination as delightful as chocolate and ice cream.
The thought made Ellie Roth Charlotte involuntarily swallow.
Clad in a white dress amidst the snowy landscape, Bai Yu appeared strikingly ethereal, almost bewitching.
But then, Ellie Roth Charlotte suddenly snapped back to reality. ‘What am I thinking?’ she chastised herself. ‘This is my fated enemy, and I’m actually having *those* thoughts about her feet…’
Her face flushed with embarrassment, Ellie Roth Charlotte angrily lifted her gaze, only to see Bai Yu standing before her, holding several skewers of roasted marshmallows and toasted bread.
Ellie Roth Charlotte froze, utterly bewildered by Bai Yu’s actions.
“What are you doing? Are you trying to humiliate me?”
Ellie Roth Charlotte’s brow furrowed. She would never allow herself to be humiliated, by anyone.
“Who has nothing better to do than humiliate you? I’m kindly bringing you food, honestly!”
Bai Yu retorted, her brow furrowed. To mistake her kindness for humiliation—this person really was something else.
Ellie Roth Charlotte stared at Bai Yu in surprise, unable to fathom why she would do such a thing.
“Why?”
“Why what? Are you going to eat this or not?”
Bai Yu was somewhat confused by Ellie Roth Charlotte’s question; the food would get cold if she didn’t eat it soon.
“I mean, why are you helping me? Aren’t we fated enemies?” Ellie Roth Charlotte seemed genuinely astonished, revealing her inexplicable obsession with the concept of a fated enemy.
“Look, what in the world is this ‘fated enemy’ you keep talking about? This is our first time meeting; we have no grievances. ‘Fated enemy’—don’t indulge in your adolescent delusions.”
Bai Yu thrust the food directly into Ellie Roth Charlotte’s hands, then turned and walked away.
“Eat it or don’t.”
Ellie Roth Charlotte gazed at the food in her hands, unsure how to compose her expression.
“‘Adolescent delusions’… What is that?”
Ellie Roth Charlotte murmured to herself. So many of Bai Yu’s words were incomprehensible to her. ‘Is this what a fated enemy is like?’
She popped a marshmallow into her mouth, and a wave of sweetness flooded her palate.
‘Delicious…’ This was Ellie Roth Charlotte’s immediate thought. She had never tasted anything quite like it.
Previously, all her meals had been prepared by chefs, leaving her with no particular opinions on food.
The chefs were always instructed to provide food tailored to her spiritual core’s needs, which often meant it wasn’t particularly palatable.
Beyond that, her sole purpose had been to fight, to continuously defeat her adversaries.
She revelled in this process—the battle, the vanquishing of foes—finding pure joy in it, and nothing more.
Her family’s directives had always been clear: defeat enemies, become the strongest, and uphold the family’s honor. There was nothing else.
“A fated enemy… huh.”
Ellie Roth Charlotte murmured, munching on the toasted bread in her hand.
The word ‘fated enemy’ had been a constant refrain in her ears since childhood.
No one knew why it had suddenly appeared, but her family surmised it might be due to her spiritual core, causing these inexplicable voices.
After all, humanity’s understanding of spiritual cores remained superficial.
Indeed, humanity still knew very little about spiritual cores; in this mysterious world, almost everything was unknown.
Consequently, the Charlotte Family hadn’t paid much attention to this mysterious voice in Ellie Roth Charlotte’s mind, as it caused her no harm and didn’t appear frequently.
Ellie Roth Charlotte’s prodigious talent and unparalleled spiritual core perfectly overshadowed this “flaw” that wasn’t truly a flaw.
Thus, the family ignored the voice, and over time, the issue faded into obscurity.
Yet, the voice persistently guided Ellie Roth Charlotte within her mind, urging her to find her fated enemy and defeat her.
This sensation never annoyed Ellie Roth Charlotte; in fact, she genuinely believed it was of utmost importance.
It was like a demonic whisper, echoing ceaselessly in Ellie Roth Charlotte’s ears.
As for what a ‘fated enemy’ truly was—a predestined adversary or something else entirely—
Ellie Roth Charlotte didn’t know. But she distinctly felt that sensation emanating from Bai Yu, confirming her belief that Bai Yu was her fated enemy.
Despite this, Ellie Roth Charlotte found herself not disliking Bai Yu. Perhaps the reality was far different from what she had imagined.
‘My fated enemy is right before me. Should I not fight?’
Just as Ellie Roth Charlotte popped the last of the food into her mouth, the voice returned.
Unlike before, this time the voice seemed imbued with magic, causing her mind to reel, leaving her with a splitting headache.
“Her flames will consume you entirely. Eliminate her. Eliminate her.”
Excruciating pain surged through Ellie Roth Charlotte’s head, forcing a pained groan from her lips.
The food in her hand fell to the ground, instantly swept away by the wind and snow.
“Hm?”
Hearing the strange sound, Bai Yu quickly stood up to check on Ellie Roth Charlotte.
