Upon hearing the sound, Bai Yu turned back in surprise, her gaze falling upon Ellie Roth Charlotte’s face. Ellie Roth Charlotte, feeling utterly mortified at that moment, hung her head, her cheeks flushed crimson.
“No, did all that food I gave you still not fill you up?”
Bai Yu was quite surprised. After all, Ellie Roth Charlotte appeared rather slender, yet she possessed such an unexpected appetite. The amount of food Bai Yu had provided was more than enough for two meals, and Bai Yu herself didn’t eat much. Since transforming into a Witch, many of her bodily functions had drastically changed, so she hadn’t given it much thought.
‘Could it be that Ellie Roth Charlotte is actually an unusually voracious eater?’
“I am not!”
Ellie Roth Charlotte retorted, her face still burning. She was certainly not the type of person who ate a lot.
Seeing Ellie Roth Charlotte’s reaction, Bai Yu seemed to understand something.
“It’s fine, there’s no need to be shy about how much you eat. I still have plenty here.”
“No, it’s just that the wind blew the food away earlier! I barely got two bites in!”
Ellie Roth Charlotte was a mix of shame and anger, but since the food had come from Bai Yu, she couldn’t really complain. After all, losing the food was her own fault.
“Ah, I see…”
Bai Yu nodded. Indeed, there had been a powerful gust of wind earlier when Ellie Roth Charlotte’s bloodline influence was active. Without another word, Bai Yu casually took out a few bags of biscuits and bread and tossed them to Ellie Roth Charlotte.
Ellie Roth Charlotte caught them instantly, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. She hadn’t expected Bai Yu to actually give her more food. Given the current circumstances, food was a scarce resource, and Bai Yu’s actions were certainly unconventional.
“I don’t want anyone starving to death in front of me. Eat as we go; we don’t have time to waste.”
With that, Bai Yu turned and continued onward.
Ellie Roth Charlotte paused for a moment, looking at the food in her hands. A faint smile touched her lips before she followed.
Across the endless snowfield, the Maiden and the girl journeyed together, as if embarked on an interminable marathon. Here, direction held no meaning for them. They had no idea which way would lead them out of this place. After all, even the most authoritative official and Arcanist organizations knew very little about this mysterious continent. Investigations into this continent were pitifully few, especially for an outsider like Bai Yu.
Thus, she could only walk in a straight line in one direction. As Arcanists, they possessed an exceptionally keen sense of direction, preventing them from circling aimlessly. For ordinary people, the sheer cold alone would be enough to freeze them into ice sculptures. Walking would be out of the question; merely surviving without dying on the spot would be a blessing. Bai Yu estimated the temperature here to be at least fifty degrees below zero.
The snowfield before Bai Yu remained utterly unchanged, save for colossal rocks and mountains that pierced the clouds; everything else was lost to her sight. Not even a single creature that Moweila had mentioned, potentially from a bygone era, had appeared. Bai Yu even wondered if any life existed here besides themselves.
After several more hours of walking, Bai Yu saw the sky darkening again. Frustrated, she angrily kicked a small stone directly into the air. The incessant walking had left her incredibly vexed. The oppressive environment, coupled with the seemingly endless journey, was enough to test anyone’s patience.
Bai Yu looked back at Ellie Roth Charlotte, noticing she was still munching on biscuits.
“Stop eating for a moment. I need to ask you something.”
Ellie Roth Charlotte paused her actions, looking up to respond.
“What is it?”
Ellie Roth Charlotte, surprisingly, wasn’t in a bad mood; instead, the harsh environment seemed to imbue her with a strange sense of tranquility.
“Do you have any flying skills, or anything to increase our speed? Let’s move faster. At this sluggish pace, who knows when we’ll reach our destination.”
Ellie Roth Charlotte nodded.
“I do, but it consumes a great deal of spiritual core and can’t be used for extended periods.”
Bai Yu frowned. She had expected as much. Almost no one possessed her kind of low-energy, long-duration flight ability. This was especially true for low-tier Arcanists. Although Bai Yu didn’t know Ellie Roth Charlotte’s tier, she was certainly not an Arcanist of the Dragon Summer Guardians’ caliber.
“Never mind. I’ll take you with me.”
“Huh? What…”
Before Ellie Roth Charlotte could fully react, Bai Yu directly wrapped her arms around her waist from behind. No one had ever done such a thing to her, not even touched her, let alone adopted such an impolite posture. Ellie Roth Charlotte herself had no interest in romance and found men utterly repulsive, so she had never entertained any thoughts of love. As for other girls, she hadn’t had any particular thoughts before, as she simply hadn’t realized such intimacy was even possible. Yet, for some unknown reason, when Bai Yu embraced her, a thrilling sensation like an electric current coursed through her entire body. It was as if some switch within her had been flipped. At this moment, Ellie Roth Charlotte’s face was beet red, like a perfectly ripe apple.
‘Is this the power of a fated rival, that from the very beginning, it leaves me in such a vulnerable state?’
Ellie Roth Charlotte was utterly shocked. She hadn’t imagined Bai Yu’s power to be so immense. But Bai Yu was behind Ellie Roth Charlotte and had no idea what expression she was making. Moreover, Bai Yu had simply hugged Ellie Roth Charlotte’s waist with a normal mindset; after all, only this posture would prevent Ellie Roth Charlotte from falling in mid-air. Bai Yu genuinely had no lewd intentions this time.
‘Hmm, why are you so hot?’
Bai Yu held Ellie Roth Charlotte’s waist. Her slender frame made it easy to embrace, but the temperature was indeed unusual. Due to Bai Yu’s own modest chest, she could easily press against Ellie Roth Charlotte’s back, fully feeling her body heat. Bai Yu could distinctly feel Ellie Roth Charlotte’s body continuously growing warmer.
“W-wait…”
Ellie Roth Charlotte spoke softly, her words lost to Bai Yu amidst the fierce winds of the snowfield.
“What are you saying? Speak louder.”
As Bai Yu spoke, her body pressed even more closely against Ellie Roth Charlotte. They were practically inseparable.
“Nothing! What exactly are you doing?!”
Ellie Roth Charlotte’s senses were overwhelmed; she even felt a burning heat in the midst of the ice and snow.
“I’m taking you with me to fly! My flying skill doesn’t consume much spiritual core, and it’ll be much faster this way.”
Bai Yu, no longer bothering to delay, immediately unfurled the wings on her back. The enormous wings spread wide, casting an even vaster shadow across the ground.
This made Ellie Roth Charlotte’s eyes widen in astonishment; it was the first time she had ever witnessed such a skill. ‘To be able to alter one’s body structure… could this be Bai Yu’s innate skill?’
Ellie Roth Charlotte pondered incessantly, though her vision could only catch glimpses of Bai Yu’s wings. Yet, even from those glimpses, the sheer beauty of Bai Yu’s wings was undeniable. No one, upon seeing Bai Yu’s wings, could possibly utter a word of disparagement.
