Join the ServerAs Bai Yu and Ellie Roth journeyed along the narrow path within the fissure, the light ahead grew steadily clearer. The ambient temperature normalized, and Bai Yu even felt a comforting warmth. This warmth was perfectly conducive for human life. Bai Yu swallowed hard, glanced at Ellie Roth, and quickened her pace.
The illumination intensified, and Bai Yu could even sense the presence of a sun.
“This is…” Ellie Roth’s eyes widened. She stared at the scene before them, utterly speechless.
Everything before them was a stark contrast, a completely different world from the terrifying snowfield outside. Vast expanses of green grassland stretched out before their eyes. From their position beneath the cliff, Bai Yu and Ellie Roth could gaze upon rolling hills and sprawling prairies.
Beyond that, the landscape stretched endlessly, indicating that this was far more than just a small, isolated area. It was a truly vast space, a place with its own unique ecosystem.
The sun in the sky poured down its radiant light. Had Bai Yu not known they were on the Antarctic continent, she might have believed herself in some quaint European town.
Even more remarkably, Bai Yu could discern faint paths winding into the distance.
“There are roads,” Bai Yu murmured.
Across the distant grasslands, dirt tracks became visible to Bai Yu. Other aspects seemed less significant, as such an ecosystem could be conjured through arcanist skills. Indeed, powerful arcanist organizations were known to alter entire environments with their mystical arts.
Thus, the existence of this environment itself didn’t overly surprise Bai Yu. However, the presence of roads changed everything. Roads signified civilization; they proved that people resided here.
“Yes, I see it too,” Ellie Roth’s voice trembled slightly, clearly astonished by the sight.
“Is this the ‘homeland of sinners’ that old woman spoke of?” Bai Yu peered down the cliff face. It was exceptionally high, with no visible path leading up. Without specialized gear, an ordinary person would never be able to ascend.
“What should we do? Should we go investigate?” Ellie Roth looked at Bai Yu, her gaze clearly betraying her eagerness.
“Of course,” Bai Yu nodded. They had no other recourse. Locating a civilized settlement here was their only chance to find information on how to escape.
Bai Yu unfurled her wings, embraced Ellie Roth, and leaped from the cliff. The fresh air carried the clean scent of plants, devoid of any industrial pollution. Disregarding other factors, the environment here was quite pleasant.
Bai Yu mused inwardly. The untouched purity of the air, the complete absence of pollution, spoke of an entirely natural fragrance.
The clouds in the sky, the sun above, and Bai Yu’s own pure white wings all felt incredibly real. For a fleeting moment, Bai Yu truly believed she had escaped the ice wall. Even soaring high above, Bai Yu couldn’t discern the full scope of this vast land.
Bai Yu’s objective was simple: follow the roads and see if they led to any towns or villages. With this thought, Bai Yu soared like a hawk, surveying the landscape from above. As Bai Yu flew, she saw no signs of human presence, only small animals.
However, it wasn’t long before they noticed something amiss. Bai Yu spotted a distant black speck slowly moving towards them. In the clear weather, Bai Yu’s vision allowed her to see an extraordinary distance.
She observed the figure in the distance appeared to be a farmer—a middle-aged man dressed in coarse linen, driving along the road. He constantly glanced around, seemingly very cautious.
“You see it too, don’t you?” Ellie Roth’s voice broke through, indicating she had also spotted the man. Given Ellie Roth’s Tier 5 strength, such keen eyesight was expected, so Bai Yu felt no surprise.
“Yes, he appears to be a local,” Bai Yu affirmed with a nod. She began her descent, careful not to startle the man with an abrupt appearance.
The man in the distance seemed to be from an era long disconnected from modern times. Who, in this day and age, would wear linen clothes and drive a horse-drawn carriage?
Aside from nobles seeking a sense of ritual or certain individuals using such ancient methods, this kind of sight typically only appeared in films. The man clearly fit none of these categories. Considering their predicament within the ice wall, Bai Yu surmised that these people had been isolated for a very long time. Therefore, she was reluctant to reveal too much of her mysterious powers. Who knew how they might react?
Bai Yu and Ellie Roth deliberately chose to approach on foot, hoping to glean some information from the man. Continuing along the path, Bai Yu drew closer to the carriage.
From the carriage, the man’s anxious expression was now plainly visible to them. He didn’t seem to notice Bai Yu and Ellie Roth, instead constantly looking behind his carriage and around, as if in fear of something.
The frantic man turned his head, only to see Bai Yu and Ellie Roth.
Bai Yu remained silent, cautiously observing the man, ready for combat at any moment. Ellie Roth, however, stepped forward and politely inquired, “Hello, do you know where the nearest town or village is?”
“Ah-sar-lulu, ji-li-ga-hui-bu, ha-ji-mi!” Upon seeing Ellie Roth and Bai Yu, the man reacted as if he’d encountered something extraordinary. He scrambled off his carriage, babbling incoherently.
“Uh, what are you saying?” Ellie Roth recoiled a few steps. She couldn’t understand a word of the man’s gibberish.
After all, languages on Blue Star had unified centuries ago. Except for archaeologists and those preserving cultural heritage, no one learned other tongues. Thus, they couldn’t comprehend what the man was saying.
“Wu-lu-lu, li-mi-ka, wa-la-wa-la!” The man unexpectedly knelt directly before them, kowtowing repeatedly to Bai Yu and Ellie Roth.
Bai Yu frowned. She had no idea what the man was trying to convey, and his seemingly deranged behavior made her disinclined to communicate.
“What do we do?” Bai Yu asked Ellie Roth. She couldn’t fathom why the man would immediately prostrate himself before them. Was this some peculiar form of welcome?
However, judging by the man’s terrified expression, Bai Yu doubted it. Ellie Roth lowered her gaze in thought, noticing the clothes Bai Yu and she were wearing. Bai Yu wore a simple long dress, while Ellie Roth was in ordinary athletic wear. Ellie Roth speculated that this might be the reason—the man perceived them as figures of authority or nobility within this place.
