Bai Yu rushed to Ellie Roth Charlotte’s side, only to find her clutching her head and groaning in agony.
“Hey, what’s wrong with you?”
Bai Yu quickly steadied Ellie Roth Charlotte by the shoulders, making her look up. She noticed Ellie Roth Charlotte’s eyes were bloodshot, and her expression was one of profound suffering, as if she were enduring immense torture.
“Don’t come closer!”
Ellie Roth Charlotte shoved Bai Yu away, clutching her head, which throbbed with an unbearable ache.
Ellie Roth Charlotte felt as if something was trying to erupt from the crown of her head. The agonizing mix of pain and itch intensified her urge to kill.
‘Destroy her, annihilate the fated enemy before you!’
The voice continued to echo in Ellie Roth Charlotte’s mind, pushing her to the brink of collapse.
Never in Ellie Roth Charlotte’s life had she experienced anything like this; she had no idea what was happening. Yet, the voice’s clear objective was for her to kill Bai Yu, the girl standing before her.
‘How could this be?’
Ellie Roth Charlotte clenched her fists tightly. How could she possibly obey a voice that brought her such agony? Even if Bai Yu truly was her fated enemy, Ellie Roth Charlotte intended to defeat her with her own strength at the appropriate moment, not to murder her like this.
How could she possibly heed the whispers that had plagued her, or kill someone who had come to her aid?
Bai Yu, having been pushed away by Ellie Roth Charlotte, froze in surprise. She didn’t understand what was happening, but it was clear something was terribly wrong with Ellie Roth Charlotte’s current state.
[Interesting. She actually carries a demonic aura. No wonder her hostility towards you is so strong.]
Moweila remarked with a hint of amusement, surprised to sense a demonic presence emanating from the Maiden.
“Demons?”
Bai Yu was taken aback. Besides angels, there were demons too? So these beings truly existed.
[Indeed. Those creatures that rightfully belong in hell have somehow escaped again.]
[She likely possesses demonic blood, and it’s currently undergoing an atavistic awakening. She’s probably being controlled by the demonic bloodline within her.]
“What can we do? Can we help her?”
Bai Yu was stunned. No wonder Ellie Roth Charlotte found her flames so uncomfortable; this was true Heaven’s Fire. How could it possibly be pleasant for a demon?
[Are you truly going to help her? As she said, with her demonic bloodline and your celestial power, you are fated adversaries. Are you certain you want to aid a potential enemy who could harm you?]
Moweila’s voice was filled with intrigue, as if genuinely curious about Bai Yu’s decision.
Bai Yu furrowed her brow.
“What are you talking about?”
Bai Yu felt a flicker of impatience. While she wasn’t a saint who would save everyone indiscriminately, the Maiden before her, despite calling her a fated enemy and seeming a bit dramatic, hadn’t actually done anything to harm her. How could Bai Yu possibly bring herself to kill someone simply because of their bloodline?
Even if she did, she would surely regret it later.
[Hmph, just as I expected.]
Moweila chuckled. She didn’t know why Bai Yu chose to help Ellie Roth Charlotte—perhaps out of kindness, or perhaps simply a whim of attraction—but Bai Yu’s choice certainly pleased her.
This was precisely how a Witch should be: making choices distinctly different from ordinary beings.
“So, what should I do?”
Bai Yu asked Moweila, unsure how to free Ellie Roth Charlotte from her current state.
[Use Heaven’s Fire. This flame can temporarily suppress her bloodline, but it’s only temporary.]
Before Moweila could finish, Bai Yu summoned Heaven’s Fire from her palm. Crimson flames instantly erupted, carrying turbulent spiritual fluctuations.
Moweila, truly a Witch from a bygone era, had offered a flawless solution.
The moment Bai Yu conjured the flames, Ellie Roth Charlotte’s pain significantly subsided. Bai Yu intensified the flame’s output, maintaining it for a considerable time until Ellie Roth Charlotte finally stabilized.
Ellie Roth Charlotte gasped for air, her breaths forming misty clouds in the cold atmosphere. Finally, as if completely spent, Ellie Roth Charlotte leaned against the rock, gazing up at Bai Yu.
“Thank you…”
Ellie Roth Charlotte whispered weakly. She didn’t know what method Bai Yu had used to free her from that agonizing state, but the situation was undeniably much better now. The voice had vanished again, though Ellie Roth Charlotte had no idea when it might return.
Bai Yu handed Ellie Roth Charlotte a cup of water, which she had warmed with her flames. Taking the cup, Ellie Roth Charlotte gulped it down, nearly scalding herself in her haste.
Bai Yu quickly reached out, but was a step too late. She wondered why Ellie Roth Charlotte was in such a rush. However, given Ellie Roth Charlotte was an Arcanist, a minor scald from the water wouldn’t cause any real harm.
Bai Yu sat beside her, waiting for Ellie Roth Charlotte to recover.
“Do you know the cause of what just happened to you?”
Bai Yu asked tentatively.
Ellie Roth Charlotte shook her head.
“I apologize for making you witness that. It’s never happened before, and I don’t know why it suddenly became like this.”
Ellie Roth Charlotte shook her head again, a regretful expression on her face. ‘There’s no need to apologize. I’m just glad you’re alright.’
Seeing that Ellie Roth Charlotte was unharmed, Bai Yu didn’t press the matter further. After all, they were the only two people in this place. If something truly happened to Ellie Roth Charlotte, Bai Yu would be quite lonely on her own. While Bai Yu wasn’t particularly fond of Ellie Roth Charlotte’s personality, she didn’t dislike her overall.
“Can you still walk?”
Bai Yu asked Ellie Roth Charlotte, as she needed to continue figuring out a way to leave this place.
Bai Yu planned to walk for a few more days, and if the environment remained unchanged, she would resort to flying. Even when walking, her speed was immeasurably faster than an ordinary person’s, given that Bai Yu’s stamina was virtually inexhaustible.
“Where are you going?”
“To find a way out of here, of course. Even if I have plenty of food, I can’t stay here forever. How could I just wait for someone to rescue us?”
Bai Yu said with a sigh of helplessness. At this point, it was unlikely anyone even knew where they were. Waiting passively was no different from waiting to die.
Hearing Bai Yu’s words, Ellie Roth Charlotte nodded.
“Can I come with you?”
Ellie Roth Charlotte asked somewhat timidly, her previous fierce demeanor, capable of “killing seven in and seven out” among pirates, completely gone. She now resembled a fragile woman.
“Fine, come along.”
Bai Yu said with resignation. She had witnessed Ellie Roth Charlotte’s violent, murderous side, which was a stark contrast to her current disposition.
‘How did her personality suddenly become so soft? Do I possess some special charm?’
Ellie Roth Charlotte said nothing further, simply stood up, and followed Bai Yu.
