Join the ServerBai Yu and Ellie Roth, cloaked in black, slowly approached Laika.
“Wuwuwu…”
Laika was sitting on the grass, knees bent like a duck, her eyes completely red from crying.
As she rubbed her eyes, she suddenly spotted two figures in black robes walking towards her.
“You… you all…”
Laika was utterly terrified, her legs so weak she couldn’t stand, retreating backward incessantly.
“Don’t come any closer! Wuwuwu!”
Laika finally remembered the bow and arrows slung across her back, and the fact that she was a Transcendent.
She immediately drew her bow, notching an arrow that shimmered with a golden light.
In an instant, the arrow flew straight towards Bai Yu.
Yet, Laika’s full-powered arrow was effortlessly caught by Bai Yu, as if it were a mere toy.
The golden glow on the arrow vanished completely, leaving it dull and lifeless.
“Is this all the strength you possess…”
Bai Yu casually snapped the arrow. She hadn’t intended merely to frighten Laika, but to speak in a language Laika would understand. However, this did not mean she considered Laika an ally, much less someone to trust. Trust was absolutely out of the question.
She tossed the broken arrow to the ground and walked directly in front of the Maiden.
“You… you…”
Laika was overwhelmed with terror, unsure what the person in the black robe intended to do to her.
Suddenly, Laika felt a warm dampness beneath her, but she had no time to ponder its origin.
Everything before her had pushed her fear to its absolute limit; this was an enemy she could never hope to defeat.
“Can you understand what I’m saying?”
Bai Yu spoke, her voice clear and gentle, causing Laika to freeze in bewilderment.
‘What’s happening? Is that a child’s voice?’
Laika looked up, realizing the speaker was wearing a hood. Earlier, due to the distance and her own seated position, she hadn’t noticed the black-robed figure’s height. Only now did Laika see that this person was not even five feet tall.
Moreover, it was a little girl. Perhaps this wasn’t a villain after all.
This realization slightly eased Laika’s mind, and her fear gradually began to dissipate, replaced by a sense of relaxation.
But how could the immense power she had just witnessed belong to a mere little girl?
Laika’s mind was thrown into utter disarray.
“Hey, I’m talking to you. Can you understand?”
Ellie Roth spoke, a hint of annoyance in her tone. She detested cowardly people like this, who were so terrified before anything even happened. If they truly encountered danger, wouldn’t they be instantly crushed?
Could such a person truly lead a team?
Ellie Roth found it truly difficult to believe.
“I… I understand…”
Laika answered involuntarily, only then realizing she was speaking the language her Mother had taught her: the unique tongue of the Audfoger people, the people beyond the Wall.
She instantly sobered, gazing in astonishment at the two individuals before her.
A sudden realization dawned upon her.
‘So these two are…’
Laika rubbed her eyes, then struggled to her feet. It was only then that she finally felt the dampness.
She had been so scared that she had…
Laika’s face flushed crimson, and she lowered her head, too ashamed to meet their gaze. To be so mortified, frightened to this extent by the very people she sought.
If the organization ever found out, her reputation would be utterly ruined.
Seeing Laika’s expression, Bai Yu shook her head helplessly and spoke again.
“Why do you speak our language? Are you unaware of the wall in the snowfield?”
Bai Yu asked, prompting Laika to nod repeatedly.
“That’s right! We came here specifically to find you.”
“Find us? Why?”
Ellie Roth narrowed her eyes, her tone somewhat unfriendly.
“No, no, no, we mean no harm! Do you remember the man in the carriage? He’s from our organization.”
Laika quickly defended herself, explaining with all her might.
“Hmm, but what does that have to do with you looking for us?”
Bai Yu nodded, acknowledging her words, and continued to question her.
“Of course it does! Our organization aims to overthrow the rule of the nobles and the Church here, and lead everyone to a new world beyond the Wall!”
Laika exclaimed excitedly, her brown eyes gleaming with passion.
“We came here to find you. Those who can traverse the endless snowstorm must surely have a way to save everyone in our homeland.”
‘Noble Church… New World…’
Bai Yu lowered her head in thought, gaining a basic understanding of the local power structure and the organization’s goals. However, she did not immediately trust the Maiden’s words.
“Why do you speak our language? The people here seem to speak differently from us; I’ve witnessed it firsthand.”
This statement made Laika’s heart clench. These words confirmed that the two had already entered Kari City, meaning they were a step too late.
Yet, they had managed to escape the city. They truly were worthy of being called people who could cross the endless snowstorm.
“My Mother taught it to me. She, like you, is also from beyond the Wall. This is the letter she left for you.”
Laika said excitedly, pulling a piece of coarse paper from her bag. A letter, written in plant sap, was inscribed upon it.
The characters were indeed those Bai Yu recognized.
Ellie Roth also leaned closer, and together they read the contents of the letter.
[Greetings, strangers. If you are reading this letter, it is most likely because a teleportation failure has sent you to this unknown continent.
I apologize. Although you must be eager to know how to leave that wall, even after decades of effort, I have not found a way.
According to my research over the years, this wall is said to have been created by a certain deity who also created this place. As for more information, I have been unable to obtain it.
Such information is strictly controlled by the Church, making it impossible for me to access.
I am merely an ordinary low-tier Arcanist who arrived here by chance.
All I know is what happened after my arrival here. Over a decade ago, the so-called endless snowstorm created by that deity made it impossible for those of us from beyond the Wall to return to our homeland, which is this place.
There is also an important piece of information: all the people from beyond the Wall who were teleported here were low-tier Arcanists. This seems to have been a loophole created when that deity created this place. However, this loophole has now been completely sealed. People from beyond the Wall who come here are now completely isolated from their homeland.
However, if you are reading this letter, it means you possess the power to pass through the endless snowstorm. If that is the case, perhaps there is still hope of finding a way to leave this place.
I beg you, please save my daughter, please save the people of our homeland. Thank you.]
Thus, the letter concluded.
