Join the ServerHaving passed through the forest, Bai Yu found the widest road, just as she remembered seeing it from the sky earlier.
“Just keep walking straight from here, and we’ll reach that town.”
Bai Yu opened a bottle of water, took a couple of sips, and then handed it to Ellie Roth. She had brought a substantial supply of water.
As for the local water, Bai Yu had no intention of consuming it, nor any of the food.
Until her own provisions were exhausted, Bai Yu would absolutely not touch anything from this place.
Even though her physical capabilities and overall constitution had reached an astonishing level, she still believed in taking precautions.
After all, there was no telling what the local food and water might contain.
Moreover, they had no idea what the intentions of the local people were. It was always wise to be wary of others, a principle that held even more true in a place where they couldn’t understand the language.
Soon, Bai Yu and Ellie Roth arrived at the city walls.
At the main gate, two fully armed guards were conducting inspections.
This caused both Bai Yu and Ellie Roth to frown. As individuals without any apparent identification, they anticipated being denied entry.
Bai Yu glanced at Ellie Roth’s face, confirming that their thoughts aligned.
Their exceptional skills gave them courage. The farmer-like man earlier had treated them as extraordinary figures, simply because of their attire.
Their appearance likely played a role as well. It was no exaggeration to say that both Bai Yu and Ellie Roth possessed beauty at the absolute pinnacle.
Ever since she had become a Witch, her appearance had never been outmatched.
‘At most, her height was a slight disadvantage…’
Bai Yu mused inwardly, then walked directly to the city gate with Ellie Roth, without any hesitation.
Initially, Bai Yu felt a flicker of nervousness. They were essentially ‘borrowing the tiger’s prestige,’ and if discovered, they would likely be swarmed. However, they wouldn’t be staying here for long anyway. Once they found a way to leave, none of these minor concerns would matter.
They were also pressed for time. While the scenery here was pleasant, the backward system left both Bai Yu and Ellie Roth feeling…
Especially those two arrogant guards; even though Bai Yu couldn’t understand their words, their haughty expressions and the way they brazenly seized goods from the residents clearly marked them as unsavory characters.
If even the lowest guards behaved this way, there was no need to speculate about the city lord; they were likely all cut from the same cloth.
Consequently, Bai Yu and Ellie Roth felt no compunction, walking straight past them.
As they approached, the residents waiting in line immediately parted, creating a clear path for Bai Yu and Ellie Roth.
Some even knelt directly, which left both of them feeling quite awkward.
After all, for two modern individuals to be shown such profound reverence, anyone would find it difficult to react.
Nevertheless, Bai Yu and Ellie Roth brazenly walked straight through, not even sparing a glance for the two guards, passing directly through the city gate.
Astonishingly, not a single person attempted to stop them. Everyone simply watched in a daze, even the two guards lowered their heads, lost in their own thoughts.
“It worked?”
Bai Yu whispered to Ellie Roth, “Even though they don’t understand us, it wouldn’t be good if they discovered us speaking a different language and grew suspicious.”
“Probably. It feels a bit too smooth…”
Ellie Roth swallowed, also finding the turn of events remarkably swift. ‘Could these clothes truly be so effective?’ she wondered.
Bai Yu shook her head, then quickly pulled Ellie Roth further into the city.
‘Since that’s the case, we should quickly blend in, or we’ll be doomed if discovered later.’
Bai Yu gave no one a chance to react, moving with lightning speed to find a place where they could temporarily settle down.
In no time, Bai Yu and Ellie Roth vanished from the vicinity of the city gate.
They knew that their attire would inevitably draw attention. Even having gained entry, they still had many matters to address.
The two guards exchanged glances.
“Were those two ladies just now daughters of some great noble family from above? Their clothes looked even finer than the City Lord’s.”
In their strictly hierarchical society, everyone’s attire was meticulously regulated. The exquisite clothing worn by Bai Yu and Ellie Roth led them to believe these were daughters from a prominent family who had ventured out.
One guard cautiously remarked.
“It’s best to speak less. Don’t meddle in affairs that don’t concern you!”
The other guard quickly slapped him, making him immediately understand.
“I saw nothing.”
The guard who had been hit pretended as if nothing had happened, continuing to stand at attention.
Meanwhile, Bai Yu and Ellie Roth swiftly moved through the town, fearful of drawing any further attention.
However, their clothing and appearance were far too striking.
In particular, Bai Yu’s silver-white hair, combined with her angelic face, caused almost everyone who saw her to fall to their knees in homage.
This constant bowing made Bai Yu incredibly uncomfortable; she felt awkward all over.
Just then, a middle-aged woman emerged from what appeared to be a restaurant.
Her movements were distinctly different from the others; she beckoned Bai Yu and Ellie Roth to come closer.
Her expression was kind and maternal, and her simple attire suggested she was merely an ordinary restaurant owner.
She continuously spoke words Bai Yu couldn’t understand, but judging by her tone, she seemed to be inviting them inside.
Bai Yu hesitated, glancing at Ellie Roth beside her and the people still kneeling around them. Ultimately, she decided not to refuse the woman’s kind gesture and walked directly into the restaurant.
The interior was brightly lit. Both the tables and chairs, as well as the bar, evoked the atmosphere of a scene from a light novel or a film.
Yet, this was a real place existing in their world, and the sensation was quite novel to Bai Yu.
Strangely, however, the restaurant was completely empty save for the owner herself.
‘Was business truly that bad, or was there some other reason?’
Bai Yu felt a pang of doubt, eyeing the owner with suspicion.
The owner led Bai Yu and Ellie Roth to a clean table, gesturing for them to sit.
Bai Yu briefly eyed the stool before slowly taking her seat.
Ellie Roth did the same, her gaze never leaving the owner.
Ever since they entered, Bai Yu had sensed a dangerous aura around them, though she couldn’t pinpoint its exact nature.
Yet, the owner had made no move to harm them, so Bai Yu could only temporarily bide her time.
‘Perhaps she was being overly suspicious. Perhaps this owner truly was a kind person.’
Afterward, the owner went to the back kitchen and prepared a glass of water for each of them. She then chattered on about something Bai Yu couldn’t understand before turning to attend to other tasks.
Ellie Roth and Bai Yu gazed at the water in their hands but did not drink immediately. Instead, while the owner’s attention was elsewhere, they discreetly used their control over fire to swiftly evaporate the liquid.
To be absolutely safe, Bai Yu and Ellie Roth even held their breath. Only after Bai Yu used [Fantasy World] to create a gust of wind, circulating the air, did they finally allow themselves to breathe again.
