Chapter 172: The Bishop’s Transformation

Ellie Roth frowned. Could this object be related to a deity?

After all, judging by the church’s appearance, this so-called deity seemed to be associated with snakes.

“How tedious!”

Ellie Roth was in a foul mood. Her Eye of Truth, usually so reliable, was repeatedly obstructed here.

It made her feel as though the Charlotte Family had been deeply humiliated.

Gripping her Curse Seal Blade, Ellie Roth leaped into the sky without a moment’s hesitation.

Repeated use of [Shrink Earth] allowed Ellie Roth to move through the air as effortlessly as if she were on solid ground.

Consequently, the pythons summoned by the bishops struck nothing but air.

They coiled and writhed on the ground, yet could not ascend into the sky.

“Ridiculous…”

With a casual wave of her hand, flames poured down from the heavens, instantly engulfing the entire group of pythons.

“Roar! Roar! Roar!”

The pythons let out ferocious roars, causing veins to bulge on the bishops’ faces.

Ellie Roth did not miss this detail; she keenly perceived it.

‘Could these snakes and the bishops share a sensory connection?’

This notion was quickly confirmed by Ellie Roth.

Ellie Roth unleashed several more black light blades from above, cleaving the pythons in half.

However, no blood flowed from the severed bodies. Instead, black mist continuously seeped from their wounds.

“What is this?”

Ellie Roth frowned, having never witnessed such an eerie ability. This so-called bishop was truly unsettling.

“Ahhh! Ahhh!”

The bishop’s toes scraped the ground like a rat in its death throes, his body convulsing as if in immense agony.

“Why, why do you possess so many bizarre abilities?”

The bishop lay prostrate, his aged body writhing in pain.

He gazed up at Ellie Roth in the sky. He had no idea why such a figure had appeared, nor why Ellie Roth’s spiritual power seemed inexhaustible, without any limitations.

“I refuse to accept this!”

The bishop’s aged voice shrieked, erupting into a terrifying sound.

Ellie Roth watched it all from the sky. The bishop continued to scream, but she merely observed, utterly devoid of expression.

She couldn’t understand a single word, nor did she wish to. The dying words of losers were almost always the same; Ellie Roth had grown accustomed to it.

Innumerable individuals had fallen by her hand. Every opponent of the reviving Charlotte Family would become a ghost beneath her blade.

This bishop was merely one among many vanquished foes.

The bishop on the ground continued to convulse, his mind replaying his entire life.

Lawrence, he was. He had joined the Church at sixteen, blessed with extraordinary abilities through the grace of the divine.

His strength had advanced by leaps and bounds, becoming a bishop at forty, a position he held until now.

Truly, everything he possessed had been bestowed by the divine.

Lawrence’s body twitched uncontrollably, undergoing irreversible changes.

Ellie Roth watched from the sky. She refrained from startling him, for no one knew what hidden trump cards this man might possess.

The ability that rendered her Eye of Truth useless had already astonished her, which was precisely why she remained so cautious.

Lawrence’s aged body began to disintegrate. Dense layers of scales emerged on his skin, and his legs gradually transformed into a massive snake tail.

“What is this?”

Ellie Roth knitted her brows, sensing that something was amiss. She had initially believed Lawrence was at his wit’s end, on the verge of death.

Yet, the scene before her defied that expectation; Lawrence seemed to be undergoing a transformation, much like a second phase in a game.

However, Ellie Roth would never grant him such an opportunity. She immediately charged towards Lawrence, four runes on her Curse Seal Blade lighting up simultaneously, intent on ending him with a single strike.

The earth trembled as four different arcane arts manifested: earth spikes, flames, black light, and the purple lightning crackling from her Curse Seal Blade.

This was Ellie Roth’s most potent attack at the moment. The combined assault of these four arcane arts elevated this strike to a terrifying level.

A massive explosion erupted, blasting the church’s ruins skyward.

The burning flames, the sizzling lightning, and the shattered earth all bore testament to the power of this attack.

A pall of black mist even formed in the sky, resembling a mushroom cloud, visible to those far away.

“Hmm, what is that?”

After casually incinerating the soldiers of Kari City, Bai Yu spotted the mushroom cloud in the distant sky.

She knew that direction all too well: it was the church, precisely where Ellie Roth was fighting.

She had assumed that given Ellie Roth’s capabilities, dealing with a Tier 4 enemy wouldn’t take so long, but to her surprise, such a massive commotion had been created.

This stirred a sense of unease within Bai Yu. Had something happened to Ellie Roth?

“Laika, I’m going to Ellie Roth first. I’ll leave this place to you. Be sure to stay safe.”

Bai Yu told Laika, who was beside her, and then immediately rushed towards Ellie Roth.

“Understood, please be at ease, Lady Bai Yu.”

Laika tightened her grip on her bow and arrow, determined not to be a burden.

Above the church’s ruins, Ellie Roth stood on an air wall created by [Shrink Earth], awaiting the dissipation of the smoke.

Logically, although this wasn’t Ellie Roth’s strongest attack, it had already reached the upper echelons of a Tier 5 strike.

In this place, it should have been impossible for anyone to withstand such an attack.

“Hahahaha!!!”

From within the smoke, a bizarre, raucous laughter echoed, a hoarse sound like ten thousand people screaming simultaneously.

As the smoke cleared, revealing the church ruins now flattened to the ground, a snake-man appeared.

He was called a snake-man because his body no longer bore any human skin. Both his arms and torso were covered in dense scales, and his legs had completely transformed into a massive snake tail.

The entirety of his body was purple, resembling a gigantic python. Even his head had morphed into a huge serpent’s head, constantly flicking its tongue.

Undoubtedly, this was the former bishop, Lawrence!

Ellie Roth frowned. Lawrence had completely transformed into a non-human monster, his eyes now vertical slits.

What surprised Ellie Roth most was that Lawrence’s spiritual aura had now reached Tier 5.

This astonished her beyond measure; to possess the ability to elevate one’s tier in such a place.

This was the so-called power of a deity. Although the cost was immense, the increase in power was equally significant.

Ellie Roth tightened her grip on her Curse Seal Blade. It seemed this battle would not be as simple as she had anticipated.
