No, no, why would I ever peek at someone else’s phone?
Mo Lan offered an awkward chuckle, despite possessing the ability to discreetly observe Bai Yu’s phone by concealing her own aura.
‘But as an elder, secretly watching a child’s phone like that would be truly excessive.’
‘After all, Bai Yu hadn’t done anything truly outrageous… or so it seemed.’
“You definitely saw it! Forget about it immediately, and don’t you dare tell anyone else!”
Bai Yu bristled, her ‘harem plan’ had only just begun; she certainly couldn’t afford to fail before even starting.
‘If Lu Xingyao found out this soon, she would surely be in for a world of trouble.’
“No, no, my lips are sealed! Keeping secrets is practically my specialty.”
Mo Lan said with a cheerful grin, yet Bai Yu, observing her unreliable demeanor, found herself utterly unable to trust her.
Bai Yu fixed her gaze upon Mo Lan’s eyes, ultimately letting out a helpless sigh.
As things stood, she had no means of making Mo Lan forget the memories in her mind, nor did she possess the power to erase the memories of a ninth-tier being.
‘This time, she had miscalculated!’
Bai Yu gritted her teeth fiercely, vowing to remember this particular grievance.
Mo Lan, observing Bai Yu’s puffed-up indignation, found the little one quite amusing, a sentiment perhaps influenced by Bai Yu’s incredibly adorable face.
‘After all, her cuteness was truly her most potent weapon!’
“Oh, by the way, Divine Favored adult, I still don’t know your name!”
Mo Lan quickly changed the subject, pulling Bai Yu away from the previous topic, for if Bai Yu continued to press her, Mo Lan would be at a loss.
“My name? I am Bai Yu, the ‘Yu’ from ‘feather’.”
Bai Yu wondered if she hadn’t actually concealed her name.
Even if she wished to hide it, it would be futile; the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau could uncover such information in an instant.
“I am Mo Lan, a member of the Dragon Summer Guardians, I am Number Eight.”
“Dragon Summer Guardians? What are those?”
Bai Yu pressed for details, as she wasn’t particularly clear on the nation’s organizational structures; Lu Xingyao had only enlightened her on the most basic aspects previously.
“Hmph hmph~ The Dragon Summer Guardians are incredibly formidable, you know.”
“There are only ten of us in the entire Dragon Summer Nation, each possessing ninth-tier strength.”
“We are the elite forces, deployed only when the Dragon Summer Nation faces insurmountable disasters, and it is a truly glorious role.”
Mo Lan spoke with immense pride, her words reflecting the glory she felt as a member of the Dragon Summer Guardians.
“Oh, is that so?”
Bai Yu feigned surprise, nodding her head, though upon closer thought, the existence of such an organization seemed entirely reasonable.
She was somewhat absentminded, her thoughts drifting elsewhere; while her demeanor might have been impolite to Mo Lan, she was genuinely quite exhausted at the moment.
“The two who came with me are also Dragon Summer Guardians; one is Number Three, and the other is Number Ten.”
“Together, we form Guardian Team Three.”
Mo Lan introduced them earnestly.
“You might as well tell me their names now, so I don’t have to get acquainted with them one by one later.”
“Mm.”
Bai Yu nodded, her eyelids already threatening to close.
“The bald one is called A Qiang, and the one wearing glasses is our Captain, Li Hua.”
“See? Easy to remember, right!”
Mo Lan stated with earnestness, and upon hearing this, Bai Yu instantly lost all traces of sleepiness.
“A Qiang, Li Hua—what kind of names are those?”
If Bai Yu had been drinking water, she would have surely spat it out.
‘Can a name like A Qiang truly exist?’
‘And Li Hua? Was he perhaps *that* Li Hua, the one she always had to write English letters to?’
There were too many absurdities; Bai Yu found herself momentarily speechless.
“Hahaha, I also find their names a bit odd, but the upside is they’re easy to remember, right?”
Mo Lan gave an embarrassed laugh, a recurring farce whenever their names were mentioned.
“Very well.”
As they conversed, Mo Lan had already guided Bai Yu to the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau in Xian City.
Bai Yu dismounted from Mo Lan’s embrace, finally standing on solid ground.
“Whew! Finally down.”
Bai Yu took a deep breath, finding the sensation of her feet firmly on the ground far more reassuring.
Bai Yu had visited the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau once before, that time to report on the Outer God’s dream to the Director.
She hadn’t expected to return so soon.
Soon, an Old Man dressed in formal attire emerged, approaching Bai Yu and Mo Lan with a respectful query.
“Esteemed Guardians, it is thanks to your efforts in repelling the Outer God that Xian City was spared from peril.”
“On behalf of the people of Xian City, I extend my gratitude to you.”
The Director was about to bow deeply to Mo Lan.
However, Mo Lan swiftly prevented him.
“Director, please rise.”
“It was not us who repelled the Outer God this time; in fact, we played no significant role whatsoever.”
“Everything was accomplished by Bai Yu.”
“Bai Yu?”
The Director paused, bewildered.
He felt as though he had heard that name before, and quite recently at that.
He lifted his gaze, spotting the small, silver-white figure behind Mo Lan.
Bai Yu rubbed her eyes, appearing rather listless, much like a child who had just woken up.
Her harmless demeanor made it impossible to associate her with the hero who had repelled an Outer God.
The Director’s eyes widened, unable to comprehend why Bai Yu was here, let alone why she was being spoken of with such gravity.
‘Hadn’t she just recently been promoted to a second-tier Arcanist?’
The Director collected himself, noticing two tall men approaching from behind and standing before him.
The ninth-tier pressure emanating from them caused cold sweat to stream down the Director’s face.
He now desperately wished to resign.
He was on the verge of retirement, yet here he was, embroiled in so many troublesome affairs.
The Director wiped away sweat; though elderly, his posture remained upright, yet compared to these two Guardians, he seemed no more than a child.
Meanwhile, Bai Yu stood off to the side, far from them, observing their ‘farce’ with an air of boredom.
She glanced at her phone; Lu Xingyao had messaged that she would arrive soon, which would be perfect for taking her home, as Bai Yu was utterly exhausted.
‘This time, she absolutely had to get some proper sleep.’
Mo Lan further clarified, “What I said is nothing but the truth; everything was accomplished by the Divine Favored adult.”
“Divine Favored…”
Only then did the Director fully grasp the implication, gazing at Bai Yu with an expression of utter disbelief.
Despite his position as Director, he had heard that term only once before, a legend he had learned during his schooling in the capital city.
They were individuals chosen by deities, capable of wielding divine power.
Such a person had appeared only once in the history of the Dragon Summer Nation, and that was thousands of years ago.
“I… I understand!”
Only then did the Director comprehend the gravity of the situation, swiftly rushing back to his office to report the matter to his superiors.
