As if I needed anything from them, as if I were lacking in resources.
Bai Yu gently pushed Mo Lan away, then turned her head to speak.
While it was true she currently needed the resources to advance Eternal Night to the second tier, she could only truly ascend to the third tier once all her spiritual cores had progressed to the second tier.
Otherwise, within the Dream World, she would have already completed the ritual for her Star Spiritual Cores to reach the third tier.
However, Bai Yu refused to beg the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau for resources.
She intended to maintain the dignified reserve of a true powerhouse.
Even if she was merely a fledgling at the moment, she still demanded the respect due to a powerful individual!
“Little Bai Yu, are you certain you don’t want anything? This is an exceptionally rare opportunity.
After all, repelling an Outer God and earning the title of Honorary Investigator is an honor almost impossible to achieve.”
Mo Lan exclaimed in surprise, finding Bai Yu’s detached attitude towards fame and fortune rather astonishing.
“Who said I don’t want anything? I was merely deep in thought…”
Bai Yu instantly changed her demeanor, not even bothering to deny it.
She sighed, wondering why Mo Lan seemed even more anxious than she was.
“And what exactly is an Honorary Investigator? Is it particularly rare?”
Bai Yu, after all, didn’t possess extensive knowledge of the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau’s structure, nor did she fully grasp its specific positions.
“It’s not just rare; it’s exceedingly rare!”
Mo Lan’s expression immediately turned serious, her tone becoming earnest.
“Investigators are categorized into six stages: Auxiliary, Apprentice, Senior, Elite, Expert, and Legendary.
These ranks are awarded exclusively to those who have formally joined the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau.
Beyond these, however, exists a distinct and special position.
That distinguished position is the Honorary Investigator.
Due to the extreme rarity of this title, few individuals ever live to acquire it, making those who possess it nothing short of legendary.”
Mo Lan explained earnestly to Bai Yu.
“Mo Lan is absolutely right.
Since the Commander has bestowed this title upon you, you will undoubtedly be treated as a distinguished guest.”
Li Hua, standing nearby, chimed in, a hint of envy glimmering in his eyes.
Bai Yu shrugged; while she personally cared little for such accolades, the title certainly sounded useful.
‘I wonder if it will prove useful elsewhere in the future.’
Bai Yu mused inwardly.
Just then, Bai Yu’s phone vibrated with an encrypted message, precisely from the Commander she had called earlier.
‘Well, isn’t that something? I haven’t even made a move, and they’ve already sought me out…’
Bai Yu thought with a sigh, not bothering to question how they had obtained her phone number.
After all, such information was trivially easy for a large organization to uncover.
However, Bai Yu kept no private matters on her phone, nor did she have a habit of taking photos.
Therefore, she felt no concern about such things.
The only thing she needed to be mindful of were the things she used to secretly browse when she was still male.
Now, surrounded by beautiful girls, she no longer felt such urges.
She had secretly deleted them long ago.
‘Still, I’ll need to find a way to prevent such issues in the future.’
The encrypted message contained a file sent to Bai Yu.
“What’s this?”
Bai Yu brought her phone closer, revealing a file filled with intricate secret arts and the ritual materials required for advancement.
It even listed the necessary books for acquiring the knowledge.
The advancement paths for various spiritual cores were all meticulously detailed.
Bai Yu’s heart fluttered; she admitted she was genuinely tempted.
[Esteemed Bai Yu, the books and ritual materials you require before reaching Tier Four can be selected from this list.
They will be delivered within three days.]
‘I can choose anything from here, and it will be delivered within three days!’
This message accompanied the file.
Bai Yu’s enthusiasm waned instantly, her thoughts confirming, ‘Just as I expected.’
‘After all, Tier Four marks the level of a high-tier Arcanist, a truly strategic resource.
The resources required for that level would increase exponentially.’
Upon reflection, it made perfect sense; her relationship with the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau was merely a collaboration.
They had no obligation to cultivate her.
She could, of course, demand a reward for saving Xian City, but Bai Yu disdained such an approach.
‘So be it.’
[Understood.]
After sending her reply, Bai Yu closed her phone.
‘As for what to choose, I’ll decide once I’m back.’
“What is it, Little Bai Yu? A message from the Commander?”
Mo Lan leaned in, asking curiously.
“Yes, it’s just about selecting some items.
If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back now.”
‘She was still worried about her nominal mother; it would be troublesome if she were injured.’
“Alright, you must be tired after being with us for so long.
I’ll escort you back.”
Mo Lan eagerly drew closer, wrapping her arms around Bai Yu’s slender form.
She also wanted to get Bai Yu’s contact information.
“Mhm, mhm…”
Bai Yu responded vaguely.
Suddenly, the large door burst open with a resounding bang.
It slammed against the wall, causing everyone present to turn their heads.
The three Dragon Summer Guardians, in particular, should have easily sensed any malice from someone approaching the door, given their strength.
Unless it was an exceptionally skilled individual, any malicious intent would cause their spiritual cores to become turbulent, thus alerting the three.
Alternatively, the person outside harbored no ill will, but then why would they arrive in such a hurried manner?
Bai Yu also turned her head, her gaze falling upon an incredibly familiar face.
It was Lu Xingyao.
At that moment, she was gasping for breath, her eyes frantically searching the room.
Upon seeing Mo Lan, she displayed a flicker of surprise, before her gaze landed on the silver-haired figure in Mo Lan’s embrace.
In that instant, a torrent of emotions surged within her: anger, grievance, jealousy, and shock.
These feelings coalesced in her mind before she furiously rushed to Bai Yu’s side and pulled her back with a swift tug.
Mo Lan, startled, quickly released her hold.
Seeing the unfolding scene, the other three discreetly exited the room, closing the door behind them.
“Xiao Yu, are you alright? Has anyone done anything to you?”
Lu Xingyao held Bai Yu close, running her hands over her body from head to toe.
Only after confirming she was unharmed did Lu Xingyao finally let out a sigh of relief.
Even then, Lu Xingyao remained unsatisfied, even suggesting she take Bai Yu to the bathroom for a thorough inspection.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, there’s no need! I’m perfectly fine!”
Bai Yu quickly interjected, waving her hand to stop Lu Xingyao’s actions.
“Really, Xiao Yu? It’s alright.
If anyone bullied you, you can tell me.
Was it this auntie who bullied you?”
Lu Xingyao pointed at Mo Lan, who stood nearby.
Veins instantly pulsed on Mo Lan’s forehead, and her fists clenched.
“Hey, Lu Xingyao! I’m your maternal aunt! Can you stop making me sound so old? ‘Auntie,’ really!”
Mo Lan was so incensed she wished she could tear Lu Xingyao to shreds for speaking of her that way.
Bai Yu glanced between the two women, realizing they knew each other.
‘What’s this about a maternal aunt? Are they actually relatives?’
