“You mean that after I entered the library… I disappeared?” Peleti stared at Feiye in shock, unable to believe what she had just heard.
What did she mean by disappeared?
Hadn’t she been inside the library the whole time?
As if to answer her confusion, Qiao Suna pushed open the library door. What appeared before them was a completely enclosed library. Its scale was far smaller than what Peleti had just seen, and there was neither the huge floor-to-ceiling window nor the wrinkled old man.
“That’s right. There was no one in the library at all—only special runes protecting the books inside.”
Peleti looked around. Lights had already been lit in the church corridor. It was clearly night now, completely different from the sun she had seen hanging in the sky earlier.
“If I wasn’t in the church library just now… then where could I have been?” Peleti raised the lantern in her hand. This object proved that she had indeed met someone earlier.
“Do you know where you went just now? Actually, you probably don’t. What was that place like?”
Peleti recounted everything that happened with Amo in detail to Qiao Suna.
“A sun that never sets?”
“Yes, exactly. Feiye, after I went in, could you sense where I was?”
Feiye shook her head.
“I couldn’t feel anything at all. It was like Sister vanished into thin air. Feiye just thought Sister would come out here again, so I kept waiting.”
The answer was obvious.
At the moment she opened the door, some ancient being of unknown age had pulled her into its own domain, disguised itself as an ordinary old man, and chatted with her.
No wonder Peleti had felt something strange about that place.
No sound from outside the door when she entered.
The sudden appearance of that old man.
The confusing flow of time.
Thinking about it now, quite a lot of abnormal things had happened after she stepped inside.
But why had it pulled her there?
After thinking it over, Peleti could only connect it to one person—Qing Cheng.
Among the mysterious people she knew, only Qing Cheng would appear out of nowhere to help her.
But why?
What kind of matter required inviting a god to help her?
Peleti took a magic book from the library and turned to the page describing the healing spell, comparing it carefully.
Finally, she found the difference.
The magic book Amo gave her recorded spells that were much simpler than the church’s versions—almost half the steps were missing.
The difference was huge.
Perhaps that was the reason.
As for the lantern, just as Amo said, maybe he simply wanted someone to talk to and gave it to her as a gift.
Looking at it this way, Qing Cheng was actually quite nice—knowing she had trouble learning magic, she specially invited a big expert to help teach her.
“Does the Pope know about this?” Peleti suddenly asked Qiao Suna.
“Uh… not yet. Why?”
“That’s good.”
She absolutely didn’t want the Pope to know anything about her. If this matter spread—especially if the Pope learned about it—she would definitely be kept here.
Since the purpose of coming out had already been achieved, Peleti didn’t want to stay here any longer. After greeting Qiao Suna, she left with Feiye.
Qiao Suna watched the two figures disappear into the night, a rare smile appearing on her face.
How could she possibly not know the things Peleti was hiding?
To take a person somewhere else without them noticing, even creating a world where the sun never sets—such a being could only be a god.
And apparently not an evil god.
Perhaps this meant Peleti was even further from falling into darkness.
Feiye, however, was still a problem.
As long as she existed, Peleti would always be able to leave Qiao Suna’s side.
She had to be killed…
“Quite a good child, isn’t she?”
“Your Holiness?!” Seeing who it was, Qiao Suna quickly bowed, not daring to breathe loudly.
Standing before her was the supreme leader of the Holy Light Church, a centuries-old monster, the true peak of humanity—Kaer Dimuz.
If she had not seen him fight with her own eyes, she might never have imagined that this wrinkled old man in a simple robe—so ordinary he could disappear in a crowd—was actually one of the strongest beings in the world.
“Why… why have you come here?”
“Oh, I’ve been watching the whole time. I just used a spell to hide myself.”
Watching the whole time?!
From when?
From when she first met Peleti—or only after Peleti returned?
Suddenly, a large hand pressed onto Qiao Suna’s shoulder, signaling her to stand.
“Don’t be nervous. Girls your age tend to overthink things. The girl you like is very good, and her character is decent. But if you rush things too much, problems will arise.”
“I… understand. Thank you for your guidance.”
“Mmm… the God of Eternity. I’ve heard that name before. Once, that god also visited my teacher. Back then I was only an ordinary apprentice. Time really flies.”
“All things will eventually decay—only truth is eternal.”
“I wonder how many years it has been since I last heard that sentence.”
Kaer Dimuz’s voice carried emotion—though more nostalgia than anything else.
The last time he heard those words was from his teacher.
“You’re right. That child may truly become a new star of humanity.”
“Your Holiness, I still think we should eliminate the girl beside Peleti as soon as possible.”
“Oh? Tell me your reason.”
“Because… she is a witch.”
The Pope stroked his beard after hearing this and looked at Qiao Suna for a long time without speaking.
“The light of humanity… was stolen from the gods.”
“This…” Qiao Suna froze.
She had heard such rumors many times from heretics, but this was the first time she had heard it from the Pope himself.
She had never imagined—nor dared to imagine—that humanity’s holy light might be a complete deception.
Kaer Dimuz sighed and continued:
“The reason light magic is the most complicated form of magic is that when humans use it, they must add a light-stealing technique as a guide, and they must also risk backlash from the light elements.”
“But for someone who truly possesses natural affinity with light elements, these steps are unnecessary—sometimes they even hinder the casting of magic.”
“The God of Eternity gave her the true light magic.”
“And the reason, I believe… is that Miss Peleti is the Witch of Light.”
“Only witches can cause runes to fail.”
“Am I right, Qiao Suna?”
Hearing this, Qiao Suna’s legs went weak and she immediately collapsed to her knees.
“Your Holiness, please listen to me—”
“Ah, stand up.”
Kaer Dimuz gently helped her up.
“Yes…” Qiao Suna suddenly felt that the man standing at the peak of humanity seemed far gentler than she had imagined.
Nothing like the terrifying rumors.
“Witch of Light… Witch of Light…” Kaer Dimuz repeated the title over and over, as if holding some deep obsession with it.
His hunched figure seemed suddenly pressed down by an invisible burden.
“How many years has it been… A proposition once thought impossible has finally been realized.”
“I wonder what my teacher would think if he saw this…”
“Can you tell me more about that child?”
“You seem very worried about her.”
“…Alright.”
