“Shadow?” Caroline frowned slightly.
“Yeah. Feiye’s domain drags its target into her shadow. We’re inside her shadow right now—Feiye herself isn’t even here.”
“So that’s how it is…” From the very beginning, Caroline had felt that Feiye’s condition was extremely abnormal. How could that child who always hid timidly behind Peledi suddenly become so frenzied?
So it turned out she was only Feiye’s shadow. No wonder she couldn’t be killed no matter what.
Seen this way, Feiye’s domain ability was so strong it was practically perverse.
There were usually only two ways to break a domain: either forcibly shatter it with a stronger domain, or directly defeat the caster’s true body.
Feiye’s domain was already extremely powerful, making it almost impossible to forcefully break. Her true body wasn’t even inside the domain, and her shadow possessed nearly the same strength as the original.
This was basically a setup that completely crushed anyone whose domain was weaker than hers. Caroline did have a way to break through the domain, but the risk would be far too great.
The manic laughter abruptly stopped.
“Feiye’s” crimson eyes stared at Olivia through the gaps between her fingers. The hatred surging within that gaze almost took physical form, pressing heavily upon the entire space.
“I may be a shadow, but you are a liar! You lied to Feiye, you lied to Isabena, you lied to Caroline, and you even lied to her… Every single lie you ever told is carved into my memory! Your words mean nothing to me!”
The corners of her mouth twisted into a distorted arc.
“I only want to… kill you!”
“Huh?” The moment Caroline heard that, her eyes went blank.
These two… know each other???
Two people who know each other, and the first thing they do when they meet is bare their hearts—what kind of special greeting ritual is this?!
And isn’t this shadow’s killing intent toward Olivia a bit… too intense?
“Hah? You say I lied to you—what kind of screw would I have loose to want to blow up my own home?! I don’t want to face that ending either!”
“Wait—” Caroline tried to cut in.
“Then why the hell did you blow yourself up so many times? Don’t you have any damn self-awareness?!”
“There’s something like that too???”
“There’s a fundamental difference between doing it on purpose and being forced into it!”
“What the hell???”
“I don’t care! Your elf problems are your own business—don’t drag big sis into it!”
Black mist began to spread around the shadow, her voice growing ever more frenzied.
“You’re standing here right now—dare you say you don’t have designs on big sis? Just for that alone… I have to kill you!”
“What else can I do? Either way I die—then go ahead and kill me.”
“Stop! Both of you, stop for a second—my brain can’t keep up!”
“Shut up!” ×2
Caroline covered her forehead. Having lived so long and always prided herself on being a genius, this was the first time she’d encountered a situation she couldn’t understand at all. She felt like her head was about to explode.
To resolve the conflict between these two lunatics and still worry about Peledi’s safety…
Wasn’t calling Feiye and Olivia over here just increasing her workload?!!!
From this perspective, Peledi—who had only lived a little over twenty years—was far more mature than these two who had lived for centuries.
“I don’t have light-element affinity?”
“Huh? Am I hallucinating? Why do I feel like I heard Peledi’s voice?”
“Yes, according to the test results, you do not possess any elemental affinity,” said a mature male voice.
“Wait, that’s not a hallucination—it’s sound coming from outside.”
“Elemental affinity test?”
“What the hell did Feiye drag me into?!!”
“I don’t have light-element affinity…” Peledi’s eyes were vacant as she muttered to herself.
A Light Witch without light-element affinity?
Does the God of Light know about this?
If Peledi doesn’t have light-element affinity, then what are those bouncing, jumping light orbs in her hand—popping candy?
This scene left Josuna beside her equally stunned into silence.
This wasn’t how she imagined it.
Shouldn’t the script be that Peledi’s talent would shock everyone, and then she would naturally become her junior and stay by her side forever?
If she remembered correctly, in her previous life Peledi’s light-element affinity had been detected in this very church. Same location, and there were only two inspectors here. So just because the person who brought her in was different, she suddenly had no light-element affinity? Or was there something wrong with the testing method?
“Uh… there’s no need to be so discouraged. Light-element affinity is quite rare to begin with. Not having it is normal.”
The inspector retrieved the rune from Peledi’s hand, a little puzzled. It was just the absence of light-element affinity—was it really necessary to react like this?
Most likely Miss Josuna had given her high hopes, and now that those hopes had fallen through, she couldn’t accept it.
“May the Holy Light be with you, Miss Josuna. The test is complete; I will take my leave.”
“Wait.”
“Switch to resonance. Test again.”
“What?” The inspector couldn’t believe what he’d just heard.
“Forgive me for speaking frankly, Miss Josuna, but resonance materials are extremely precious nowadays. Using them on someone who has already clearly shown no elemental affinity in the runes is truly a waste—not only wasteful, but it will also cause serious losses.”
“Moreover, resonance has a relatively high error rate when it comes to light-element affinity. And you have already explicitly stated that she possesses light-element affinity. This creates a large discrepancy between her result and your expectations—it’s rather inappropriate.”
Josuna didn’t bother arguing. She directly pulled out her Candidate Saintess badge from her pocket and slapped it heavily into the inspector’s hand.
“I said, resonance.”
“Uh… all right. Resonance requires some time to prepare. Please wait a moment.”
With the First Candidate being this forceful, he, a mere working stiff, could only obediently follow her instructions.
Although the cost of one resonance was extremely high, she was the future Saintess, a rising star in the eyes of many bishops. Who would, or who would dare, offend her?
Setting down the rune, the inspector hurried out of the testing room with Josuna’s badge.
In the vast room, only the two pretty girls remained.
“Sis~” A sweet, heart-chilling voice quietly sounded.
Feiye emerged like a ghost from the shadow of a corner flowerbed. She ran over and, without a word, tightly hugged Peledi, using so much force it was as if she wanted to embed herself into Peledi’s body.
She raised her face, her eyes hollow yet flashing with dangerous attachment.
“Feiye? You? Here? How did you do that?” Peledi fired off four question marks in a row.
Didn’t Caroline say Feiye had run into big trouble?
Then what was this Feiye in front of her now, completely unharmed?
When did she start following me? She even got into the church without the big bell ringing once?
And that rune just now—how could a Light Witch test as having no light-element affinity? That was simply outrageous.
The church’s craftsmanship was really way too shoddy.
“Hey, sis, you’ll always stay by Feiye’s side, right?” Feiye seemed not to hear Peledi at all. She murmured softly, her hollow eyes frightening.
“I love sis so much. Sis must like Feiye too, right?”
The reason Feiye could tolerate Peledi interacting with those bad women was that, in her understanding, those people were insignificant. Once she took Peledi away, they would never be able to catch up and thus posed no threat to her sense of crisis.
Olivia was different. She had been reborn—and she was also a princess of the elven race. Now the entire elven族 was worrying about the disaster that was about to descend. In her previous life, only sis had been able to deal with that disaster. Her people would definitely support her in coming to find sis, and they had almost reached sis already…
When a sense of crisis began to grow in her heart, fear was like a dam bursting. In an instant, it shattered all the levees of reason, releasing all the “floodwaters” that had been buried and accumulated.
