Chapter 213: In the end, we have to face it

“There’s really nothing wrong, sister, look!”

In order to prove herself, Feiye jumped out of Perletti’s arms, spun in a circle, and even bounced twice on the spot.

“Feiye’s perfectly fine now! I can eat, sleep, and fight — what could possibly be wrong with me?!”

Perletti stared at her for quite a while, trying to find even the slightest trace of disguise within her expression and eyes.

But in the end, all she saw was clear and open honesty.

Only then did she finally relax a little, letting out a resigned sigh.

“Alright… but if you feel anything strange afterward, even the tiniest abnormality, you have to tell me immediately. Absolutely no hiding it by yourself, understand?”

“Got it, got it! Sister can relax already!”

Feiye nodded vigorously before happily bouncing back to Perletti’s side.

After soothing Feiye, Perletti turned her gaze toward Olivia, who was currently tidying up the office.

“Aya, there’s something I need to tell you. Judi sis came to find me today. It’s about the Tower… there are some things I need to go back and deal with.”

Olivia’s movements paused briefly before she revealed an understanding expression.

She had naturally heard about the disputes within the witches regarding Perletti’s identity.

“Do you need my help?”

She set down the document in her hands, her expression serious.

“After all, I can’t just keep watching you face all those troubles alone.”

Feeling the concern in her words, warmth stirred in Perletti’s heart, but she still shook her head.

“Not for now. This is my own matter. I need to face it myself.”

“And besides…”

Her gaze drifted toward the silver ball in the corner that was desperately trying to reduce its presence.

“This time, I’m planning to bring Seviala back with me too.”

“Gyaah—?!”

The curled-up Seviala suddenly trembled violently as though someone had stepped on her tail. Her silver scales nearly puffed up from shock.

She had just been celebrating her successful “invisibility” moments ago!

“I have to go too?!”

“Of course.”

Perletti’s tone left no room for discussion.

“There’s something extremely important for you that must be dealt with over there.”

Seviala’s entire dragon visibly wilted. Her head and tail drooped as she let out a weak little whine.

“Okaaay…”

By now, she had more or less figured out Perletti’s awkward position within the magical community.

She was basically a walking controversy magnet.

As a little dragon whose only wishes were to eat well, sleep peacefully, and grow up safely, she absolutely did not want to get dragged into this sort of dangerous and complicated internal conflict between factions!

Rather than risk getting caught in the fallout while following Perletti around, she would much rather nap beside the palace garden fountain under the sunlight.

How comfortable would that have been?

Without disturbing Caroline, who was likely busy, Perletti simply packed up briefly before leaving the elven palace together with an obviously excited yet slightly nervous Feiye, as well as a dejected Seviala who kept turning back every few steps.

They headed toward the Tower.

When the familiar gray silhouette of the High Tower standing at the forest’s edge became faintly visible through the gaps between the trees — still around a thousand meters away — Perletti’s footsteps slowed slightly.

Under the shade beside the road ahead stood a familiar figure with arms crossed, leaning against an ancient tree.

Her fiery red hair appeared especially eye-catching beneath the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves.

It was Judi.

She seemed to have been waiting there for quite some time already.

“You came this early?”

Perletti walked forward and asked calmly.

“Mhm… finished dealing with everything on hand. Didn’t really have anything else to do, so I came out to wait for you.”

Judi’s tone sounded flatter than usual, missing some of that indescribable complexity from before.

Straightening herself, she gestured for Perletti to follow.

The moment they entered the Tower, an unfamiliar kind of silence greeted them.

Not the empty stillness of an abandoned place, but a heavy quietness carrying exhaustion, pain, and suppression.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Only their own footsteps echoed clearly throughout the spacious corridors, making the silence feel even heavier.

The battle against Xiaomu had cost many witches dearly.

Those severely injured were still bedridden, while even the lightly wounded had expended enormous amounts of magical power and mental strength.

Several days had passed.

The initial shock, fear, anger, and arguments had gradually subsided, replaced instead by the numb silence that came after utter exhaustion — and the unavoidable reality still waiting ahead.

Perletti silently counted the supporters she knew she had:

Isabena.

Teacher Caroline.

Feiye.

Masha sis.

And Judi before her.

All of them were unquestionable pillars among the witches, and their attitudes carried immense weight.

But Perletti understood very clearly that this did not mean the other witches would simply change their opinions and accept an existence burdened by “taboo” like her.

Deep-rooted prejudice and scars left behind by history would not disappear so easily.

“Feiye.”

Perletti stopped walking and softly addressed the younger girl beside her.

“Take Seviala and wait in my room for a while first. I… need to go meet Fluye alone.”

Although the room had originally belonged to Masha, Masha was most likely together with Isabena right now, leaving it temporarily empty.

Perletti had decided to first visit Fluye, the “Witch of Dust.”

Aside from the witches who openly supported her, Fluye also possessed considerable influence within the High Tower and had a relatively calm and rational personality.

Perletti felt there were some things she could not avoid.

She needed to communicate proactively.

She needed to express her own thoughts, and she also needed to understand the true feelings of the other witches — especially those who still harbored reservations toward her.

“What?!”

The moment Seviala heard that, she immediately shook her head like a rattle drum, her silver scales fluttering slightly as unwillingness filled her entire face.

“I just got here! I haven’t even had a sip of hot water yet, and now I’m getting locked in a room already? If there’s no huge emergency, then why’d you even bring me here?!”

“I already told you — there’s another important matter that requires your help.”

Perletti patiently soothed her, even throwing out bait as temptation.

“If you behave, there’ll be a reward tonight.”

“Tch, what kind of reward could there possibly be…”

Seviala muttered quietly.

But beneath Perletti’s calm yet unquestionable gaze — combined with Feiye grabbing onto one of her dragon horns — she could only be dragged away half-pulling, half-tugging in complete dejection.

Watching their figures disappear around the corridor corner, Perletti steadied herself before turning toward Fluye’s room.

Stopping before the door, she raised her hand and lightly knocked twice against the wooden panel.

Silence.

There was no response from within.

After hesitating briefly, Perletti gently pushed open the heavy door.

The scene inside the room stood in complete contrast to the oppressive atmosphere outside.

Sunlight streamed diagonally through spotless windows, illuminating countless tiny motes of dust slowly drifting through the air.

Light passed through those minuscule particles, forming hazy pillars of radiance that made the entire room seem wrapped in an ancient and tranquil veil — like a dream where time itself had slowed.

A young woman with messy, fluffy hair sat quietly within the interplay of light and shadow by the window.

A very thin booklet lay open upon the small round table before her, yet she did not seem to be reading it.

Instead, she lazily rested her chin upon one hand while gazing out the window toward some distant unknown place.

Within the floating dust-lit glow, her profile appeared serene… and strangely detached.
