Early in the morning, Peleti yawned and groggily climbed out of bed, wearing only a thin nightdress as she swayed and pushed open the door.
This nightdress had been given to her by Ailberna, who said she had prepared it for her back then and decided to give it to Peleti as a gift.
Peleti would never buy this kind of nightdress herself.
When it came to sleeping, what was there to fuss over?
Usually, Peleti preferred to wear just a pair of panties, or even nothing at all.
After all, she was alone, so there was no way she would normally agree to sleep in a nightdress.
But since it was a gift from someone else, it was hard to refuse, so she had no choice but to wear it.
Feiye was unusually well-behaved today.
Although she was still clinging tightly to Peleti, a little force was enough to pull her off, and there was no reaching out in her sleep asking for a hug.
It seemed that carving the blood mark on herself had given this child a great sense of security.
Wearing her nightdress, Peleti went into the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth, and happened to run into Ailberna, who had just gotten out of bed as well.
As for how she could tell, yesterday Ailberna still had dark circles under her eyes, but today they were much lighter, and her eyes were squinted almost shut.
It was obvious that she had not fully woken up yet.
“Morning.”
“Mm, morning.”
They greeted each other.
Ailberna was being assisted with her washing by Carol, leaving both hands free to scratch at her hair nonstop, turning her already messy hair into tangled clumps, like she had a ball sitting on her head.
By contrast, Peleti was on her own.
“Have you found where my home is yet?” Peleti suddenly asked.
“Not yet, there are so many cities in the north, it’s not that easy to find.”
Carol’s movements paused for a moment, her confused gaze hesitating before shifting back and forth between Peleti and Ailberna.
These two… were they still half-asleep?
Even half-asleep, this seemed a bit strange.
She wanted to remind Ailberna, but the other party didn’t care at all and instead urged her to continue.
With no choice, Carol gave up.
“However, I do think there’s one place with a very high probability.”
“Where?”
“Black!” Ailberna said the name with great confidence.
“Huh? Why there? Aren’t there plenty of other places that are possible too?” Peleti was quite surprised that Ailberna could directly give the correct answer, but she did not show it.
“Josuna. It’s obvious that she knows you. I asked around, and Josuna has always been in Black and never went anywhere else before coming here, so it can only be that place.”
As she spoke, a short white-haired girl appeared outside the door.
Compared to Peleti and Ailberna, Feiye looked much more awake, at least she could still keep her eyes open.
“Come here, I’ll brush your teeth and wash your face.”
Feiye obediently walked over to Peleti and let her stuff a toothbrush into her mouth, while Ailberna began applying various skincare products to her own face.
“So is it there or not? Just finding a place name is making my head explode,” Peleti said.
“Even if you find it, it’s useless.”
“Why?”
“I no longer have any family. They’re all dead…”
“Uh… although it’s within expectations, hearing you say it out loud is still kind of unexpected.”
“It was a long time ago. If one day you really do find it, remember to help me bring two bouquets of flowers to my parents’ graves.”
“Alright, I definitely will.”
“Sis, what are you two talking about?” Feiye asked in confusion after spitting out her mouthwash.
“Nothing important, just chatting casually,” Peleti replied offhandedly.
“Oh.”
Feiye answered verbally, but she still felt that the topic the two of them were discussing was a bit strange.
She just couldn’t say exactly what was strange about it.
“Did you get the information I wanted?”
“Not yet. The rubbings still need some time.”
Knock, knock, knock—
Suddenly, there was a knock from downstairs.
Peleti and Ailberna both stuck their heads out of the bathroom and exchanged a glance.
“Did you call someone?” Peleti asked.
“I thought it was you who called them. I usually don’t have time to deal with those people.”
It seemed to be an unexpected visitor.
Yet the two of them remained unhurried, as if they did not care at all about the person standing outside.
Peleti even treated Ailberna’s residence like her own home, freely calling for the maids around her to tidy up the bedroom.
For a moment, Feiye could not tell whether she and Peleti were here as guests or as hosts.
Someone showing up early in the morning was most likely here to ask Ailberna for help, or for some other matter.
In such cases, it was the person outside who was in a hurry, not her and Ailberna, so there was no need to rush.
“You go open the door. My clothes are a bit complicated. I’ll come down later.”
Peleti changed into a dark brown linen dress, combed her hair, and went down the spiral staircase.
Knock, knock, knock!
The person outside seemed to be getting impatient, and the knocking grew stronger.
“Coming, coming, don’t rush!”
Peleti opened the door, and what met her eyes was Josuna’s tense face.
“Oh, it’s you. May I ask what brings the candidate saintess here?”
Peleti’s tone was deliberately distant, as if she were intentionally keeping her at arm’s length.
Josuna clasped her hands behind her back and looked at Peleti with a smiling face.
“I missed my little maid. Is it not okay to come and see you?”
Peleti pointed at the clock on the wall.
“Your maid won’t be on duty for another three hours. Right now I’m Peleti. We can talk about work during working hours. Thank you.”
As she spoke, Peleti tried to close the door, but for some reason, the door that had opened just fine would not close now.
Peleti lowered her head and saw Josuna’s shoe stuck in the doorframe.
“Haha, Lele really is heartless,” Josuna said with a smile, though her voice was almost grinding through clenched teeth.
“Alright, enough joking. I’m here for serious business.”
“If you had serious business, you should’ve said so earlier.”
Peleti flung the door open and led Feiye to sit down on the living room sofa.
“Oh, it’s Josuna. What brings you to see me so early?” Ailberna came down from the second floor after tidying herself up and happened to see Josuna enter.
“She says she has serious business. It should be you she’s looking for,” Peleti said indifferently.
“Not exactly. Actually, I came to see Lele.”
“Me?” Peleti pointed at herself in disbelief.
“Yes.”
Josuna extended the hand she had kept behind her back, and in it lay a scroll.
“What’s this?”
“Lele’s letter of appointment.”
“Letter of appointment? Is Sister going to become a saintess?” Feiye looked at Peleti with curiosity.
“Don’t talk nonsense. I don’t want to become that unlucky thing,” Peleti said as she took the letter of appointment from Josuna, while Ailberna also leaned over curiously.
“This is a letter of appointment personally signed by the Pope. Once you agree, Lele will become a senior priest of the Falisa diocese.”
