Chapter 58: A Narrow Escape

For a brief moment, a huge question arose in Pelleti’s heart.

Why, back then, had she tried to look cool and not let Caroline take Feiye away with her, instead leaving the two of them alone together?

Yes—she had clearly known that Feiye showed obvious yandere tendencies. Yet because of the thought that “having a big shot by my side is safer,” she kept her with her, forgetting that Feiye herself was also dangerous.

Like a trigger-type explosive rune: usually it looked cute and harmless, but once you touched the rune, it would explode in an instant and blow her to pieces.

What was worse was that there were two such runes—and there was a high chance they would explode at the same time.

Pelleti even felt that clearing Falisar and the Holy Light Church alone would be easier than bringing Feiye along.

If she focused on learning Light-element magic, Josuna wouldn’t be able to absolutely suppress her; she might even suppress Josuna in return as a Witch of Light. Dealing with just one yandere would still be manageable, and with Ailberna’s help, she could leave safely.

At least, alone, she could ensure she wouldn’t die suddenly halfway through.

Unlike now, when she had to deal with two yanderes at once—one already exploding, the other showing signs of explosion.

About yanderes, Pelleti had read in that book that their essence was loving someone to an absurd degree, while also being crushed by pressure from their surroundings, eventually walking down an extreme path.

But no matter what, at their core, yanderes feared that the person they loved didn’t love them back, and thus tried to force the other to love them, or to satisfy their twisted possessiveness.

When she read that part, Pelleti had already come up with a very useful method to deal with yanderes.

The problem was, that method could only be used one-on-one.

With two of them…

She wasn’t sure what kind of outcome it would lead to.

It might become even more dangerous—but she had no choice now.

With the arrow on the bowstring, she had no choice but to fire. Pelleti knew she had no more options. Feiye’s combat power was too high; once she truly exploded, everyone in the cathedral would suffer.

Thinking of this, Pelleti took a deep breath.

“I’m sorry!”

The loud voice echoed beneath the dome, making both girls freeze slightly.

Before either of them could react, Pelleti cupped Feiye’s delicate face with both hands, leaned down, and tilted her head.

As she enjoyed the girl’s softness and sweetness, Feiye suddenly felt a fresh, sweet scent spread through the air, filling her nose.

“Mm? Mmmmmm!!!!!!!”

The gloom on her face didn’t fade—it instantly turned into an abnormal red instead, far more intense than the gloom, spreading over her whole body like boiling water scalding her skin. Her eyes seemed to spin with countless lines, and puffs of steam rose from her head.

Sister… kissed me first…

Feiye shyly curled up, yet didn’t retreat at all. Instead, she tightly grabbed Pelleti’s clothes and went from passive to active, greedily savoring this hard-won moment.

Beside them, Josuna’s body twitched unnaturally. She ground her teeth, her eyes filled with rage.

“You two!” Josuna moved stiffly, grabbed Pelleti’s shoulder hard, making her wince in pain. But she didn’t care anymore. She shoved Pelleti aside and then kicked out with all her strength.

Feiye, who had been immersed in tenderness and completely unguarded, was sent flying.

“Why did you do that?!” Pelleti shouted at Josuna, practically roaring to make sure she heard.

“Didn’t you say my sister and I have a good relationship? What, if we’re close we can’t kiss?! It’s just kissing in front of your statue—yes, it desecrates the most sacred and inviolable idol of the Holy Light Church, damages church doctrine and future development, and even oversteps in front of you, the candidate saint. I admit that’s my fault—but you can’t bully a child! If you want to hit someone, hit me!”

With that, Pelleti’s legs gave out and she fell to her knees before Josuna with a thud, as if ready to confess her sins and die.

Josuna hadn’t yet recovered from seeing Pelleti forcibly kiss Feiye. She had just kicked out in anger, and now faced Pelleti kneeling like this—her mind went blank.

“I’ve only known you for a few days, but if I make a mistake, I’ll take responsibility myself!”

That sentence reminded Josuna of something. Only then did she remember that she and Pelleti had only just met. Kicking someone just because she was close to her “sister” was crossing the line no matter how you looked at it.

Damn it—she had actually gotten angry because of that little tagalong.

Calm down. At this point, she could only follow Pelleti’s lead.

Feiye’s existence was trouble no matter what. She had to find a chance to kill her!

“Ahem! And you still dare to do it even knowing that?! If you did it a few days later, I’d at most scold you. But you just finished the oath and immediately acted so arrogantly—you really don’t take the Church’s rules seriously!” Josuna pointed at Pelleti, deliberately exaggerating her tone for Feiye to see.

At this moment, only Feiye was being fooled. Her little brain clearly wasn’t as sharp as the other two. She only knew she had done something wrong and made her sister get scolded.

“I’m sorry, Sister…” Feiye lowered her head, tugging at her clothes, her voice so soft it was almost inaudible.

Inside, pain and happiness coexisted.

It was the first time she had tasted Pelleti. It felt novel—and she liked it very much.

Win!

On the surface, Pelleti showed nothing, but inside she was already cheering.

The moment she heard Feiye’s aggrieved voice, she knew she had won.

Pelleti could still steam!

At this moment, the strongest “steam princess” in the hall was no longer Feiye, but Pelleti.

She felt she had evolved from Steam Princess into Steam Knight, reaching a whole new realm.

“It’s okay, everyone makes mistakes—especially little kids like you, right?” Pelleti revealed a gentle smile at the right time.

Mom…

Feiye almost blurted it out. In that instant, she felt a sacred, motherly aura radiating from Pelleti and filling the room. Sunlight poured down from behind her like a halo behind a god.

Really… just like Mom…

But in Josuna’s eyes, this scene was—

An angel…

Truly worthy of being someone acknowledged by the Light.

“You’re still here?” A sudden voice rang out in the prayer hall. Ailberna had found the place—and the moment she entered, she saw a scene she would never forget in her life.

“Uh… you guys… this… looks like I came at the wrong time. Should I… leave first?”

“No. You came at exactly the right time.”
