Join the ServerXiaomu felt her sanity beginning to snap apart. The unease she had felt earlier at Olivia’s appearance had now transformed into a freezing reality and blazing fury.
She could scheme against witches. She could shoulder sins. But Olivia… she was the “future” Xiaomu had left behind for the elf race — the absolute bottom line that could never be endangered.
If powerful enemies were not surrounding them from all sides, she truly wanted to tear apart that bastard who was always grinning so smugly.
“Wait, let me sort this out.” Masha blinked, finally seeming to piece the situation together. She pointed at the immobilized Olivia. “You mean she shoved that so-called ‘Core Seed’ into this little elf’s body?”
The deathly silence around them confirmed her guess.
Masha abruptly turned her head, her crimson eyes locking onto Perletti like icy probes.
“Then just now… you clearly had the chance. Why didn’t you do it?!”
The inevitable question had finally come.
Perletti took a deep breath and met her sister’s gaze without retreating.
“Sis, there are too many things wrong with this entire situation. We can’t fully trust what Juwaish said. There’s definitely a trap behind all this… or maybe… a turning point?”
“We can’t just fall into the script she prepared for us.”
“A trap? A turning point?” Masha sneered and looked up toward the sky.
The final trace of light from the real heavens was being completely devoured by the frenziedly growing branches of the World Tree. Endless darkness descended like a curtain.
“And where exactly is this ‘turning point’ you’re talking about?”
Her voice lowered, carrying a rare trace of exhaustion and mockery.
“Looks like… we really have no chance left.”
Perletti followed her gaze, and her heart sank violently.
The sky had already been entirely covered by the writhing canopy. Not a single ray of light could penetrate it. Absolute darkness brought with it an absolute sense of suffocation.
“How ironic…” Xiaomu’s voice rang out as she looked at Perletti, her expression impossibly complicated. “In the end, I actually benefited from your… hesitation. I’ll remember you, Light Witch Perletti. But the one who doomed every witch here… was ultimately your own choice.”
The instant her words fell—
Drip.
Drip.
A thick, icy-cold “raindrop” carrying the strange fragrance of tree resin landed on Perletti’s shoulder.
Instinctively, she pinched it between her fingers. The texture was not the moist fluidity of water, but a half-solidified gelatinous substance radiating faintly ominous magic.
“What do we do now?” one witch whispered in terror.
“Hah? You’re asking me?” Masha shot Perletti an irritated glare, only to realize the latter was staring blankly upward at the sky, where more and more resin was beginning to drizzle down, as though she were watching something no one else could see.
Masha’s heart also sank.
She could devour the resin infused with magic power, but doing so would greatly divide her strength and give Xiaomu an opening. Yet if she ignored it, once the witches were completely wrapped in that bizarre resin, the outcome was self-evident.
A dead end.
Yet Perletti’s gaze drifted involuntarily toward the elevated figure of Juwaish.
The cat-eared goddess still swung her legs leisurely, wearing the same eternally amused and teasing smile, as though every tragedy unfolding before her was merely an entertaining stage performance.
Did I… really choose wrong?
At the very moment that despairing thought arose, the pure-white newborn feather within Perletti’s arms suddenly pulsed with gentle warmth.
Subconsciously, she took it out.
Within the absolute darkness, the snow-white feather began radiating a soft, pure glow all on its own.
A key.
As fellow servants of light, she should—
Around her, deadly resin continued dripping endlessly. In the distance loomed Xiaomu’s watchful hostility and the terrifying aura of a ritual nearing completion. Beside her were the hopeless gazes of her companions.
Yet the instant her fingertips touched the warm feather, the tangled chaos in Perletti’s heart strangely calmed.
A vast, lofty sensation enveloped her, as though she had been placed among the clouds themselves.
Her five senses gradually stretched outward, wrapped within something immeasurably distant.
Then, somewhere deep within the unseen, she heard a gentle and ancient call that seemed to transcend time itself.
“Child…”
“You… are calling me?” Perletti responded within her consciousness.
“Come… come here…”
“Wait, right now I—”
Before Perletti could explain the urgency of the situation outside, an irresistible yet incomparably gentle force wrapped around her wrist and gave a light tug.
Blinding radiance swallowed everything.
When her vision returned, Perletti found herself standing upon a pure-white platform suspended above a sea of clouds.
Beneath her feet rolled endless cloud tides. The sun felt close enough to touch with her fingertips. Magnificent, sacred, and liberating energy filled every inch of the space.
She looked around.
Standing before her was a winged divine maiden nearly three meters tall, dressed in a simple white robe with flowing folds. The girl frowned slightly as she examined Perletti with eyes full of curiosity and confusion.
She possessed short snow-white hair shimmering with iridescent colors beneath the sunlight, along with a pair of enormous white wings folded behind her back, their feathers lush and immaculate.
Her beauty surpassed mortal standards, requiring no ornamentation whatsoever.
“Sister, who are you?” the winged girl asked, her voice clear as spring water and filled with straightforward confusion.
She was merely a consciousness left behind to guard the inheritance, and she understood her mission very well: to guide younger members of her race.
But the one before her… although she carried a familiar aura of light, she was obviously not one of the Winged Divine Race!
The inheritance program she had maintained for countless ages suddenly seemed to freeze for a moment.
“I…” Perletti steadied herself. “I am a Winged Divine Blessed of the God of Light. My name is Perletti.”
“A Winged Divine Blessed?” The winged girl suddenly understood, and her serious expression instantly transformed into enthusiasm. “Ooh~~ so you’re like little sister Masha! No wonder you feel familiar! My goodness, unbelievable — I never expected the one I’d receive this time to be a blessed servant of the Lord God! What an honor!”
“Um… could we hurry a little? My body outside feels like it’s about to give out,” Perletti said urgently.
“Relax, relax~” The winged girl waved casually, looking completely at ease. “Anyone who can reach this inheritance space is already standing at death’s door. But under the Lord God’s divine power, time here is practically independent. We have plenty of time to complete the ‘Awakening.’ Though if you’re really in a hurry, I can speed things up a little.”
“Independent time?”
“Something like an eternal instant?”
For some reason, Perletti found the concept strangely reasonable.
Within the Eternal Moment created by Lumen, Perletti had clearly seen scenes of Lumen together with the Winged Divine Race, with almost no distance between them at all. Given that kind of relationship, it would hardly be strange for Lumen to personally help them through crises.
“Awakening?”
“That’s right!”
A sharp light flashed through the winged girl’s eyes as she suddenly raised one hand, palm upward.
No incantation.
No magic circle.
The endless surrounding light elements gathered of their own accord like birds returning to their nest, condensing within her palm into a blazing white sphere so radiant it was impossible to look at directly, as though it contained the energy of an entire world.
“The true path of wielding the elements… beyond mortal magical techniques!”
