Chapter 60: You Didn’t Give Me a Chance Either

With the rune personally engraved by the Pope in her possession, Pelleti’s journey through the church could only be described as smooth sailing. Although not many people knew that the rune had been carved by the Pope himself, the moment they saw Pelleti’s identity as a high-ranking priest, their attitude toward her unconsciously rose by several levels of politeness.

This badge was really useful.
A high-ranking priest held far more authority in the church than Pelleti had expected.

Pelleti secretly felt delighted. These believers probably wouldn’t even dream that, as an enemy of the church—a witch—she could stroll into the church so openly. And they, as believers, not only couldn’t raise weapons against her, but even had to bow respectfully to her.

That feeling was simply exhilarating.

She knocked on the door of the storage room, and the one who opened it was a familiar face.

“Hi, Mr. Dunn. We meet again.”

“Miss Pelleti! What a pleasure. And this is…?”

Dunn’s gaze fell on the badge on Pelleti’s chest. To his surprise, it wasn’t the apprentice saintess badge he had imagined, but that of a high-ranking priest of the church.

“Oh, I didn’t want to become a saintess, so the church gave me the identity of a high-ranking priest instead.”

“Being a saintess would be great—so little daily work, and good pay too. Wouldn’t that be much easier?” Dunn sighed.

“I’m not suited for that kind of thing.”

“I’d say Miss Pelleti is being quite modest. And this one beside you—I haven’t seen her before.”

“She’s my younger sister.” Pelleti pulled Feiye to the front.

“A sister, huh. No wonder you both have white hair.” Dunn nodded thoughtfully.

“Enough small talk. We’re going to the library. I just arrived and don’t know the way—take us there.”
Josuna was in a very irritable mood and didn’t feel like waiting for them to exchange pleasantries, so she forcefully demanded that Dunn lead the way.

“You want me to guide you? Alright, let me tidy up the room first.” Dunn carefully organized the documents on the desk, locked the cabinets in the room, and finally shut the door tightly and added the last lock.

After finishing all this, a large key ring hung from his hand, holding an unknown number of keys.

“Sorry to make you laugh. There are many important things in the storage room, so they must be strictly guarded.”

“That’s understandable.” Pelleti glanced at the tightly shut door.

When she had entered earlier, she had seen that the room was filled with various alchemical tools, not just runes for testing elemental affinity.

Looking at it this way, Mr. Dunn must be holding several positions at once—he must be very tired every day.

Guarding so many important items, his strength was probably greater than she had imagined.

Josuna and Feiye followed behind Pelleti. Along the way, the two of them paid most of their attention to each other, rarely focusing too much on Pelleti for once.

Pelleti finally enjoyed a rare moment of peace.

“By the way, what are you going to the library for? I remember there aren’t many important things in there. Why go?” Dunn asked, perhaps feeling that the atmosphere was a bit oppressive.

“Mainly, I want to see if there’s any light-element magic.”

“Huh? Miss Pelleti, haven’t you been to the academies run by the church?” Dunn looked at her in shock.
“I remember those academies all have teachers who specifically teach magic.”

“When I was tested for elemental affinity back then, there was an error. I always thought I had no affinity, so I never learned.”

“I see. No wonder. The library does indeed have a lot of magic—every element has its share. But I still suggest you go to an academy in a nearby diocese to learn magic systematically.”

“Why?”

“Light-element magic is generally quite difficult to learn. In my experience, many priests and fathers spend a very long time just mastering a few low-level spells. Not to mention high-level light-element magic. Without a teacher’s guidance, it’s almost impossible to learn in a single day. Moreover, due to their nature, books in the library are not allowed to be borrowed.”

“You want to learn magic? I can teach you.”
Hearing Pelleti’s intention, Josuna immediately moved closer to her.

“I know quite a lot of light-element magic. Teaching you wouldn’t be a problem at all.”

Dunn couldn’t quite stand it and offered a reminder.

“Forgive my bluntness, Miss Josuna, but you have no experience in teaching magic. Relying solely on your personal understanding could easily cause Miss Pelleti to develop misconceptions about magic…”

“Ahaha, Mr. Dunn, are you perhaps the legendary priest?”
Hearing this, Josuna instantly put on a chilling smile and stared straight at Dunn.

“How do you know whether I have experience or not?”

“Sorry, I spoke out of turn.”

“So, how about it? Having someone teach you is better than learning alone, right?” Josuna suggested to Pelleti.

Although she had only just arrived here, she already knew how important the library was. It was extremely difficult to enter such a place; it wasn’t somewhere you could freely go just because you had a badge.

Josuna, as an apprentice saintess, wouldn’t find it too hard to get in.
But Feiye, an outsider, getting in would be utterly out of the question.

By then, the vast library would become a space where only she and Pelleti were together.

A space that truly had no outsiders—where she could fully enjoy Pelleti’s company.

She could even deliberately raise the difficulty of Pelleti’s magic studies. That way, Pelleti would learn more slowly, and their time alone would be longer.

“No need!”
That line came from Feiye.

“Sister doesn’t need you to teach her at all. Sister is the strongest! This kind of low-level magic—she can learn it just by looking at it once.”

“I’m not that exaggerated…” Pelleti felt helpless toward the two of them.

She wanted to separate them, but Feiye had always stuck by her side and refused to leave no matter what.
Josuna, on the other hand, was like a wolf that had bitten onto its prey and wouldn’t let go either.

After realizing that neither of them could monopolize Pelleti unless the other was dealt with, the two of them were already on the verge of tearing into each other.

Pelleti could only try her best to prevent that from happening.

When would this torment ever end?!

“You little thing, have you ever learned light-element magic? A layperson daring to point fingers at me—believe it or not, I can arrest you for the crime of blaspheming a saintess?”

“Tch, you think you can catch me? Let me tell you, everyone in your church combined still wouldn’t be enough for me to fight alone!”

“Oh? So short, yet such a big mouth.”

Their relationship was like an explosive rune—one spark away from detonation.

“Could the two of you please stop arguing for a moment?”
Dunn stepped between them and cut off their quarrel.

“Are you looking to die?!”
Josuna glared at Dunn through clenched teeth, and Feiye’s expression was not much better.

“No, I just wanted to remind you… we’ve already arrived, and… Miss Pelleti has gone in by herself.”
Dunn stiffly pointed toward the magnificent door to the side.

“Why didn’t you remind me earlier?!”

“You didn’t give me the chance either…”
