Chapter 65: Revenge From Morning Till Night

Peleti sat inside the rapidly moving carriage, leaning against the window with a frown. The burning kerosene street lamps flashed past her eyes, leaving only streaks of afterimages.

Uncontrollably, terrifying scenes from her memories surfaced in her mind, accompanied by a constant buzzing in her ears.

Not long after, she closed her eyes in pain and pulled the curtain tightly shut.

“You’re still afraid of this?” Ailberna, sitting across from her, suddenly asked.

Looking at Peleti, her intention was obvious.

“I didn’t expect you to move this fast,” Peleti pressed her fingers against her temples, calming herself down.

After many days of investigation, Ailberna had finally made some progress. Someone who lived in Black, knew Qiao Suna, and feared fire—there was only one person who fit all those conditions.

He had once encountered a major convenience store explosion one night. After that, he disappeared and was presumed dead.

Now it seemed that explosion had triggered the deepest emotions in Peleti’s heart, pushing them past her psychological threshold.

The awakening of a witch’s power wasn’t caused by negative emotions specifically—it was caused by extreme emotions.

No matter what emotion it was, once it exceeded the person’s mental limit, witchification could occur.

The trigger for Peleti becoming a witch, most likely, had been fear.

Thinking of this, Ailberna felt slightly relieved.

Fear was good.

If Peleti had something she feared, it meant that no matter how monstrous her talent was, she was not without weakness.

If one day they ever ended up on opposite sides…

…this could be used against her.

“You should know who I am. My speed couldn’t possibly be slow,” Ailberna scoffed arrogantly.

Peleti looked at Ailberna’s faintly raised lips, then glanced at Feiye sitting beside her with her head lowered in thought. She simply wrapped an arm around Feiye’s waist and pulled her into her embrace.

“What are you thinking about?”

“N–nothing.” Feiye quickly denied it after snapping back to reality. She obviously couldn’t tell Peleti that she had been planning something rebellious.

“Then smile a little. Don’t stay so gloomy all the time.”

“Does Sister want Feiye to be happier?”

“What kind of question is that? If I didn’t want that, would you just stay unhappy?”

“No, no. It’s just that… other things feel meaningless.”

“Meaning? If you keep chasing something like that, everything will end up meaningless.”

“No! Sister is meaningful! Sister is the most important!”

The sudden outburst made Ailberna slightly stunned.

Peleti seemed much better now—at least she didn’t look panicked.

“Then it’s settled. When you’re by my side, you should be happy. Don’t always look gloomy and silent like this, okay?”

“Okay!”

Feiye nodded vigorously.

Seeing this, Meilansha sighed quietly and returned silently into Feiye’s shadow.

“That’s better.” Peleti happily patted Feiye’s little head, and Feiye rubbed affectionately against her hand.

In Ailberna’s eyes, it looked exactly like a master petting an obedient cat.

The relationship between these two…

It really felt like owner and pet.

No—it absolutely was.

Thanks to the inspiration from that god, Peleti had found a safer way to deal with Feiye: treat her like a pet, planting in her mind the idea that Peleti was more important than Feiye herself.

Although doing this was morally questionable, reasoning about morality with a yandere might result in Peleti waking up one day never seeing the sun again.

Yanderes already violated normal moral standards.

If she insisted on treating them with normal logic, the only result would be being locked in a dark room forever.

Besides, she had already become a witch.

Why should she still follow human morality?

Compared to the weirdos in witch society, what she was doing was practically mild.

“Ailberna, do you know which god that was?” Peleti suddenly became curious about the identity of that young-looking old man.

Only after meeting Amo did she start feeling that the gods in myths weren’t as distant as she had imagined.

They even seemed… interesting.

Especially when he talked about his romantic history—the emotions in his eyes didn’t seem fake.

If he had become a god, his talent must have been incredible.

“I compared the lantern with some records. Its name is ‘Everbright’ (Changming). Just like the name—it never extinguishes. It’s the origin weapon of the God of Eternity.”

“The God of Eternity? Then what’s his name?”

“You’d better not try to find out a god’s true name.”

“Why?” Peleti asked curiously.

Was a god’s name really that important?

“Beings like gods are far beyond our imagination. If I don’t tell you the name, it’s because no matter where you are, they can sense it when you call them.”

“Wait.” Peleti immediately caught a crucial piece of information.

“You mean if I say a god’s true name, no matter where I am, they’ll feel it?”

“Yes. That’s why a god’s true name is extremely important. If it spreads, unpredictable consequences could occur. Even gods wouldn’t like a bunch of ants buzzing around them like flies.”

“I see… Qingcheng?” Peleti said experimentally.

Feiye, in her arms, froze and looked up at her in disbelief. Peleti’s lips were curling upward wildly, as if she could barely hold back laughter.

Across from her, Ailberna was completely stunned.

“You… don’t tell me…” She swallowed hard, a terrible guess forming in her mind.

“It’s nothing. Qingcheng is just an ordinary name. I just suddenly felt like saying it.”

Obviously, neither of the two believed her.

“Really. Qingcheng—it’s just a name. What could possibly happen?”

Peleti waved her hand indifferently.

That person had mysteriously turned her into a witch, then dumped a pile of unsolved problems onto her. Worse still, each problem was harder than the last—and they all ended up on Peleti’s shoulders.

She had long been fed up with it.

The only reason she hadn’t cursed Qingcheng before was because she couldn’t find her.

But now—even if she couldn’t meet her face-to-face, she would annoy her endlessly like this.

“We’re here. Let’s get off,” Ailberna said.

As Peleti stepped down from the carriage, she immediately saw Qiao Suna, dressed in an elegant evening gown, standing with her hands behind her back and smiling at her.

“Hi~ I’m surprised you actually came.”

“It’s nothing. I didn’t really have a choice,” Peleti replied helplessly.

The two walked up the steps side by side.

Qiao Suna glanced at Feiye in Peleti’s arms.

Feiye stared straight ahead, completely ignoring whatever Qiao Suna might be thinking.
