Chapter 148: Your Name [Volume 3: A Moment of Peace Under the Tree’s Shadow]

“Are you sure… this is the Tower?”

Perletti stood side by side with Feiye atop the mountain peak, the biting wind lifting their hair.

She pointed toward the distant structure, tightly surrounded by numerous sharp-eared elves, her eyes filled with confusion and uncertainty.

After several days of travel, they had finally reached their destination—yet the sight before them was completely unexpected.

The tower that should have belonged to the witches… was now encircled layer upon layer by fully armed elven soldiers. The security was so tight that not even an insect could slip through.

And yet, the witches inside showed no sign of resistance.

Feiye stared at the elves, suppressed anger flickering deep within her eyes.

“This is indeed the Tower. Feiye doesn’t know what happened either… but these goblins—every one of them is armed. They don’t look friendly.”

“Is it them who don’t look friendly…?”

Perletti couldn’t help glancing at Feiye’s fingers, where a dangerous shadow quietly gathered. She screamed internally:

You look way more dangerous than they do!

“You’re such a cute girl—could you at least… be a little more polite?” Perletti rubbed her forehead helplessly.

“Hmph. Since it’s big sister’s request…”
Feiye pouted, clearly unwilling, crossing her arms.
“Then Feiye will reluctantly raise their status… to ‘golden-haired dogs.’”

In her twisted perception, the tragedy that befell Qing Cheng later… the elves had “contributed greatly.”

A race that would harm Qing Cheng for their own selfish desires—

In her eyes, they were even more disgusting than hypocritical humans.

Perletti’s cheek twitched slightly.

Golden-haired dogs… isn’t that just another way of calling them dogs?!

Sure, it’s an upgrade from “worse than dogs” to “dogs”… but is there really any difference?!

It still sounds like an insult!

And she had a strong intuition—

The abnormal situation at the Tower likely had something to do with that elf who had been taken away by Caroline.

“Whatever happened,” Perletti steadied herself, her gaze calming,
“Xiaolu has been missing this whole time. It’s probably related to them.”

“Since we can’t avoid it… let’s meet them head-on.”

With that, she stepped forward and leapt off the steep cliff.

In the past, even a ten-meter drop would have made her legs tremble.

But after falling from a thousand-meter cliff, that bone-deep fear seemed to have been overwritten by something heavier.

Though her chest still tightened from the sensation of falling, it no longer restrained her.

Just before landing, gentle light elements gathered beneath her like clouds, softly supporting her descent.

Compared to that, Feiye’s landing was far more direct—

Black wings burst forth with a sharp flap, kicking up a small gust as she halted midair, then the wings dissolved into black ash.

Honestly… that was already better than expected.

Perletti had thought Feiye might just smash a crater into the ground.

“Stop right there! You two humans—state your purpose!”

Almost the moment they landed, patrolling elven soldiers emerged from the forest. More than a dozen quickly formed a circle around them, their sharp gazes full of vigilance. Bows and spears were already aimed at the center.

“If you’ve wandered here by mistake, leave immediately,” the leader said coldly.
“Otherwise… you will remain here forever.”

Perletti and Feiye exchanged a glance, their confusion deepening.

She had assumed these soldiers were waiting specifically for her.

But now, it seemed… they didn’t even know who they were guarding against.

“You don’t even know why you’re stationed here?” Perletti asked cautiously.

“Enough nonsense!” The elven captain showed impatience, lifting his spear slightly.
“Are you human spies sent to gather intelligence?”

Perletti took a deep breath and decided to reveal her identity.

“I am the Witch of Light. The one beside me is the Witch of Night.”

“Witches?”
The captain froze, frowning as he thought for a while—then shook his head.

“There are no such individuals among the witches.”

Just how did that person choose their guards… sending people who can’t even recognize witches?
Perletti rubbed her forehead internally, feeling a wave of exhaustion.

It was one thing if they didn’t recognize her—after all, she was a newly born witch and this was her first time in elven territory.

But Feiye?

A witch who had lived for over a thousand years—

There was no way the elves had never seen her before.

Perletti refused to believe that.

She said nothing more. Turning her palm upward, she focused slightly.

A pure, warm sphere of light quietly appeared, hovering above her hand—radiating a gentle brilliance that could not be mistaken.

Every elf present was instantly drawn to it.

Other elements could be imitated.

But such docile, condensed, life-filled light—

Across the entire continent, only one person could wield it.

The soldiers’ expressions changed. They quickly lowered their weapons, and the captain bowed immediately.

“So it is the Witch of Light, my lady. Forgive our earlier offense!”

“…Can we enter now?”

“Of course. Please proceed.”

With a wave of the captain’s hand, the soldiers surrounding the Tower parted like a tide, opening a path.

Perletti gently pressed a hand on Feiye’s shoulder and led her forward.

She could feel the slight tension beneath her fingertips—

She was genuinely worried Feiye might lose control and blow all these “golden-haired dogs” away.

Just as they were about to step into the Tower’s domain—

A lively—almost overly energetic—voice suddenly cut in:

“Oh—?! The beautiful Witch of Light has arrived!”

A white-haired girl appeared in their field of vision as if out of nowhere, bouncing right up to them.

She was wrapped in strangely styled white bandages—less like clothing, more like casual decorative wrappings.

The moment she saw Perletti, she enthusiastically leaned in, her face almost pressing against her, her curious gaze scanning her from head to toe, making Perletti extremely uncomfortable.

“Oh~ oh~ this waist, so slender! Let me compare—how long are you?”
Her fingers traced the air playfully as her gaze moved upward.
“And these curves—wow, even I’m a little jealous! Though compared to me, you’re still just a tiny bit inferior~”

“…Who the hell are you?! Do I know you?” Perletti frowned, swatting her restless hand away.

“Huh? Not familiar?”
The white-haired girl blinked, her expression dazzlingly bright.
“But I’ve ‘known’ you for three months already, Miss Witch~ From the very first glance, I fell in love at first sight!”

She suddenly leaned closer, lowering her voice with a teasing smile:

“Don’t think about playing with my feelings, okay~”

“…Sister Isabena, please don’t mess ar—” Feiye couldn’t help but speak.

“Pfft—!”

Isabena spun around at astonishing speed, lightly pressing a finger to Feiye’s lips, cutting her off.

Then she turned back to Perletti, performing an exaggeratedly elegant bow. Her white hair swayed lightly with the motion.

“Now then, dear, beautiful Witch—”
She lifted her head, her eyes gleaming with playful brilliance.

“May I have the honor… of knowing your name?”
