Chapter 55: Her Highness Protects Me

Betty Lane held her knight’s sword to Shally’s throat, driving her back into the cabin.

Shally raised her hands in surrender. Without her arms to hold them up, the tattered remnants of her clothes fell to the floor with a rustle, revealing her naked body.

Betty Lane took in the scene…

A room, a bed, two people, one night, one set of utterly ruined clothes, and another set even more ruined. What else could this be but a scene from an adult manga?

Even though Shally and Lucia hadn’t said a single word, Betty Lane had already filled in all the blanks in her mind.

Although judging by the state of their clothes, Lucia seemed to be the less damaged party, could her dear Lucia possibly be the instigator?

Of course not!

It must be this woman’s plot—she attacked Lucia! Lucia’s disappearance and her torn dress were proof enough!

As for why this woman’s clothes were in worse condition, it was probably because she had a fetish for exhibitionism or something.

Poor Lucia, to be toyed with by such a perverted woman. Her poor Lucia must have suffered brutal ravishment last night, pinned beneath this woman and tormented until she whimpered…

How cruel!

Absolutely unforgivable!

Betty Lane glared at Shally, her teeth grinding audibly enough for Lucia to hear from across the room. She could behead Shally at any moment.

Lucia quickly jumped off the bed, separated the two, and placed herself between them.

“Betty, don’t hurt her,” Lucia pleaded.

What?! Had Lucia already been conditioned into a ragdoll? In just one night, she had been molded into that woman’s shape?!

Betty Lane was shocked and furious. She pushed Lucia aside with one hand. “Please step aside. I’m going to make her pay!”

“No! It’s not what you think!” Lucia grabbed Shally’s hand and pulled her behind herself.

Shally followed Lucia’s pull, dodging, expressionless like a puppet.

Her blankness was because she was lost in thought. A phrase was scrolling madly through her mind: ‘Her Highness is protecting me! Her Highness cares about me!’

Shally’s face burned as she experienced a mental climax.

“Lucia, move aside!” Betty Lane shouted, her razor-sharp gaze slicing at Shally’s throat. If Lucia weren’t protecting Shally, making it hard for her to act, Shally would have been dismembered by now.

“Betty, calm down! It’s really not what you think! Shally didn’t do anything to me!”

“Really?” Betty Lane asked.

“Really!” Lucia nodded frantically.

Betty Lane’s tone softened slightly, but she still held her sword, its tip still aimed at Shally.

“You’re Shally, right? I’ll give you a count of ten to explain exactly what happened yesterday.”

Although Betty Lane would have preferred to hear the explanation from Lucia, as Lucia’s subordinate, she couldn’t demand that her master explain herself, so she had to settle for Shally.

Under Lucia’s protection, Shally calmly recounted her identity, background, mission, motives, and the entire course of events.

“I’m Shally Field. Earlier… I deduced that you might be hiding a secret about Her Highness, so I went ahead to Potts Town to monitor your movements. After confirming Her Highness’s identity, I brought her out.”

“And then?” “What happened after you brought her here?” Betty Lane frowned and urged. Why did she stop at the most crucial part?

“I brought Her Highness here…” “Then…” Shally couldn’t continue. Her face was as red as if she had applied blush—the shyness of an innocent girl.

Shally was different from ordinary noble ladies. She had been selected from among orphans and, under the royal family’s orders, was raised by a minor noble. From childhood, she had two identities: one was the open disguise of a noble, and the other was that of the royal family’s shadow agent.

Most royal shadow agents had to be chosen from children with no background. After brutal selections, only the most talented were qualified to receive training.

Shally passed through layer after layer of screening, transforming from a homeless orphan into a promising candidate.

Even more fortunately, because of her appearance, Shally was given the disguised identity of a noble’s daughter, allowing her to enjoy material comforts she could never have imagined.

Her life became a warped product caught between nobility and shadow agency.

The training she underwent as a shadow agent repeatedly wore down her will, instilling in her the dogma that the king’s command was above all.

The noble social events she attended were all about gathering and spreading intelligence. Every emotion was a trained disguise, just like noble etiquette.

Luckily or unluckily, her noble disguise gave her a perspective beyond that of ordinary shadow agents.

She had the mindset of a noble, an enlightened person, which prevented her from being completely brainwashed. Though she had experienced nothing but false emotions, deep inside she always yearned for genuine feelings.

Unlike other brainwashed shadow agents, she feared dying as an agent, dying in an unknown corner. Her killer wouldn’t know who she was or where she came from. Those who sent her out would never acknowledge her name or identity. That fear had been magnified to its peak during her recent near-death experience. And the one who led her out of that fear was the girl before her.

She looked at Lucia’s back, a sweet smile appearing at the corners of her lips. Every time she thought of last night’s events, she, usually so cold, was too shy to speak.

“Just say it already!” Betty Lane was so anxious she wanted to kill someone.

Betty Lane looked at Lucia. Lucia was also blushing and too embarrassed to speak.

“What exactly happened between you?!” “What happened?!”
