Join the ServerShe remembered. Last year, after the main ritual of the Grand Sacrifice concluded and the King paraded through the streets, the Angel had openly buried the Dragon Blood Amber.
She had done so under the guise of planting flowers, with the assistance of her Guardian Knight, mixing it with soil before interring it.
Beneath that pink flowerbed, a small white flower bloomed—the very one the Angel had planted last year.
This was the Grand Altar. Although it was open to the public on normal days, allowing commoners to visit and worship, it was always guarded.
Not a single blade of grass, tree, brick, or tile on the Grand Altar was permitted to be damaged.
In theory, the Dragon Blood Amber she had buried would not have been dug up. However, a year had passed, and the gardeners had made several rounds.
There was no guarantee the Dragon Blood Amber still remained. She had to go and check quickly.
Lucia lifted her feet and began to walk towards the flowerbed. Betty Lane, feeling Lucia’s strength, followed her lead and accompanied her to its edge.
Just as Lucia was about to bend down and dig, Betty Lane steadied her.
“Angel, please mind your demeanor,” Betty Lane gently admonished. “You must maintain your elegance until we return to the palace.”
Lucia could not argue with her Guardian Knight, who stood several heads taller than her. She could only stare intently at the flower she had planted last year, so close yet out of reach.
Following Lucia’s gaze, Betty Lane discovered the small white flower. She knelt, her hand gently touching the white petals.
“This is the White Danise you planted last year, my lady. It is still in full bloom this year.”
“The White Danise’s floral language speaks of loyalty, guardianship, and love.”
Betty Lane delicately plucked the White Danise from its stem, then, shifting from a crouch to a kneel, she tucked the flower into Lucia’s hair. She whispered,
“It suits you perfectly.”
Her actions at this moment were somewhat presumptuous, but Lucia did not mind, and there was no one else around.
This allowed Betty Lane to subtly reveal her inner thoughts, embedding her feelings in the flower and offering them to her Angel.
The eight years Betty Lane had spent guarding the Angel’s growth were also eight years of the Angel’s unwavering companionship for Betty Lane.
The Angel’s constant presence had healed Betty Lane’s grief over losing her brother, embedding a small, white-haired angel deep within her heart.
Initially, she believed she guarded the Angel’s side solely out of knightly conviction, the King’s decree, and the Angel’s renown.
However, she gradually came to understand that the Angel held an extraordinary place in her heart. At the same time, she also realized there was an insurmountable chasm between a Guardian Knight and the Angel.
After a year of internal struggle and turmoil, she finally came to terms with it.
She simply hoped that her time as a Guardian Knight would continue indefinitely, allowing her to forever remain by the Angel’s side.
As she admired Lucia, memories of their time together welled up within her, and her gaze grew somewhat dazed. The arrival of workers ascending the steps, however, jolted her back to reality.
Numerous workers, carrying planks and clutching drapes, bustled about in the center of the Grand Altar, seemingly constructing a raised platform.
Betty Lane, uncharacteristically flustered, whispered to Lucia,
“This area requires construction. I shall escort the Angel to rest first.”
Lucia was led away by her Guardian Knight.

The original engagement ceremony between the Valga Royal Family and the Angel had been changed to a wedding ceremony by the King’s decree.
Although the content had been altered, the ceremony already had a contingency plan. Only minor adjustments were needed for it to proceed.
At this moment, the workers were diligently following the plan, bustling to set up the temporary venue.
The workers were highly skilled, having already arranged similar setups in four other locations across the capital: east, west, north, and south. The Grand Altar was their final construction site.
According to the plan, the wedding between the Valga Royal Family and the Angel was to be held five times.
The primary purpose of the wedding was not merely marriage; the old King was using it as a “press conference,” intending to hold it in five different locations across the capital to ensure everyone in the city witnessed the Angel’s bloodline merging with the Valga Royal Family.
If conditions allowed, the old King would even have wished for this historic wedding to tour the entire nation, proclaiming to the world that the Valga Royal Family was the closest family to the gods.
Before long, the workers had erected a temporary platform, grand in appearance but simple in structure.
It was already noon, and the sunlight was excessively bright, with even the gentle breeze carrying warmth.
The commoners, observing the tables and chairs lining half the street and the lavish array of dishes upon them, already knew that this year’s Grand Sacrifice was unlike any before.
Curiosity spurred them to constantly question their friends, hoping to glean even a few words of information beforehand.
However, the Angel’s marriage was a closely guarded secret. Only nobles of Marquis rank or higher had received advance notice, so how could commoners possibly know?
A chef from a Viscount’s household, unable to answer his friend’s questions, began to analyze the street banquet.
Based on the ingredients and different sets of tableware, he categorized the luncheon on the street into various social strata.
“That section there, it’s exclusively for nobles. The sauce on that roast meat is made from Blue Rosa fruit, a noble’s exclusive delicacy. Commoners would be whipped for eating it.”
“Look over here. This section is better than some but not as good as others. They’re using large tables made of dozens of smaller ones. This is likely for respectable people who possess wealth but no titles.”
“As for us two, we can’t hope for such a spread. Later, we can check the end of the street. I smell freshly baked bread there; perhaps there will be some distributed to the common folk.”
“Noble lords love to announce good news at balls and banquets. A celebration this grand must mean some monumental news is about to be revealed.”
“Oh, oh! Such a grand occasion! Just how significant could this news be?”
“Ah, I don’t know, but it’s definitely huge.”
Amidst the murmuring of the crowd, the nobles and respectable individuals took their seats. The chef, proud of his accurate prediction, heard the crowd’s chatter grow increasingly boisterous.
Princess Delia Yass entered the noble section and, from her seat, cast a disdainful glance at the crowd lining the street, scoffing, “How vulgar.”
She wondered what madness had possessed the old King to arrange such a street banquet for nobles, allowing a throng of crude commoners to observe their dining and socializing. It was, in her eyes, utterly undignified.
To Princess Delia Yass, she felt like a graceful bird in a cage, being gawked at by a swarm of toads. It was simply the height of vulgarity.
Around her, other nobles gradually took their seats, their faces adorned with standardized smiles. They likely also found this luncheon a crude arrangement but dared not defy the King’s will.
‘Hmph,’ Princess Delia Yass thought with disdain, raising her teacup and taking a sip of red tea.
Her gaze swept over the surrounding seats. She did not see the Angel among them, and though it was a perfectly reasonable arrangement, a pang of regret pierced her heart.
‘If I could dine with the Angel, I would surely see her true face, my little Angel.’
As Princess Delia Yass thought of the Angel, her throat seemed to parch, and her sips of tea grew more frequent.
After half a cup of red tea, she set down her cup and summoned her personal knight, whispering in a voice only they could hear,
“Is everything arranged?”
The personal knight nodded silently, confidence gleaming in their eyes.
Princess Delia Yass’s lips curved into a smile, and her gaze swept towards the high platform, searching for the unattainable little Angel.
‘The Angel belongs to the Valga Royal Family? No.’
‘The Yass family possesses the capital to challenge the Royal Family. All that is missing is renown. With the Angel, the Yass family will be the new Royal Family!’
