Chapter 22: The Meeting

Shi Lu stood at the entrance of the association, her mind still on Bai Muxue.

It wasn’t that she cared so much about the five thousand yuan Bai Muxue had swindled from her. She had money on her. She could hand over fifty thousand on a whim, let alone five thousand.

Money was never a problem for her, unless the other party asked for an especially large amount.

The main reason was that Bai Muxue looked very similar to the Eternal Night Witch. And the combination of white hair and red eyes was indeed rare.

Even though Shi Lu hadn’t sensed any witch’s magic on Bai Muxue, she didn’t easily dismiss her suspicion. She only lessened it a little.

Shi Lu had a vague feeling that Bai Muxue was connected to the Eternal Night Witch. But that kind of thing required evidence, not just her intuition.

“Huh?” Shi Lu turned around and found Ye Li and another girl arriving at the association entrance.

The girl beside Ye Li had smooth, waist-length pink hair. She wore a white hoodie and black trousers.

The girl with Ye Li was the magical girl Lian, or rather, Xia Ling as she should now be called.

“Oh, it’s Xiao Li and Xia Ling,” Shi Lu said. “What are you doing here?”

Ye Li and Xia Ling exchanged glances, unsure how to explain the matter to Shi Lu.

“Let me explain.” Finally, Xia Ling spoke up and told Shi Lu about their battle with the witches.

“One big and one small, two witches who looked alike, except their hair was black…” Shi Lu summarized after listening.

Bai Muxue and Bai Ye both had white hair. The reason Ye Li and Xia Ling saw black hair was because Bai Ye’s magic had disguised their appearances.

“Has any new Abyss appeared in Changfeng City recently?” Shi Lu asked.

Xia Ling and Ye Li both shook their heads.

“No new Abyss has appeared. That means both witches came to Changfeng City from outside. But the only witch confirmed to have arrived recently is the Eternal Night Witch…”

Shi Lu lowered her head and rubbed her temples.

This was complicated.

“You came here to submit a mission report, right?”

“Yeah!” Ye Li nodded.

“Then you don’t need to. Come with me to the meeting room. I’m calling a meeting.” With that, Shi Lu pushed open the door and entered the association.

“Sis Ling, what’s going on with Senior Shi Lu?” Ye Li asked, confused.

“I don’t know…” Xia Ling shook her head. “But since Senior Shi Lu said so, she must have her reasons. Let’s go in.”

“Okay.” Ye Li nodded.

The two quickly caught up with Shi Lu.

Shi Lu took out her phone and sent a message to Bai Yun.

 Come to the meeting room. There’s something to discuss.

Okay, I’ll be right there.

Bai Yun put down her phone and closed the game on her computer screen.

“Haah…” She stood up and yawned.

Among all the magical girls in Changfeng City, Bai Yun was the most unique.

What made her unique was that she didn’t have a civilian identity to disguise herself in society.

Ye Li and Xia Ling were students. Shi Lu was publicly known as the association’s administrator. The other magical girls had social identities to match.

But Bai Yun didn’t. If one had to say, she was at most a social idler.

So the association arranged a “job” for her. She was the association’s customer service rep, taking calls from the public reporting incidents.

However, Bai Yun wasn’t the only customer service person. Normally, she didn’t need to work. Apart from the occasional sortie and night patrol, she sat there every day with nothing to do.

But the association couldn’t just let her leave freely. After all, her official identity was customer service. A customer service rep couldn’t just walk out of the office whenever she wanted, right?

“Ugh, so boring. I’m getting tired of playing games here every day. I’d rather go home and keep Muxue company.” Bai Yun stretched and headed for the meeting room.

Shi Lu and the other two arrived at the meeting room first. Bai Yun followed right behind.

In the meeting room, the four each took a seat.

Shi Lu sat at the head. Bai Yun sat beside her. Ye Li and Xia Ling sat on the other side.

Shi Lu was an investigator sent by headquarters and a Radiant Moon-class magical girl. Her status was a bit higher than Bai Yun’s.

“By the way, where are the other magical girls?” Bai Yun looked at the several empty seats and asked.

“Two are off on business trips. One is in school. As for the rest… well, they all have their own things,” Shi Lu replied.

“So this meeting is actually just the four of us?” Bai Yun asked again.

“I don’t want to answer that, but yes, that’s how it is.” Shi Lu shrugged.

“Xiao Li is a college student. You and Xia Ling are free agents. I’m the administrator. Only the four of us have the most free time.”

Bai Yun said nothing more.

“Now, let’s start the meeting. Everyone, quiet down.” Shi Lu cleared her throat.

“The main topic of this meeting is that two new witches have appeared in Changfeng City,” Shi Lu said. “They fought Xia Ling and Ye Li.”

“Xia Ling, Ye Li, tell me about your fight with them.”

“The two witches were one big and one small. The smaller one was very weak, no match for me. The larger one was stronger than me, but not a match for Sis Ling,” Ye Li said.

“The two witches look extremely alike, and their magical power is almost identical. So I suspect they might be the rare Twin Witches,” Xia Ling said.

Twin Witches were witches born at the same time, sisters like twin lotuses on one stem.

They possessed the same magic and power. Even if one died, the other could consume her own magic to revive her. They were a troublesome kind.

“Good. Now let’s recreate their appearances.” Shi Lu took out a camera and took a photo of Ye Li and Xia Ling.

But the photo didn’t show them. It showed Bai Muxue and the other witch in their disguised forms.

This was a magical girl’s power. She could perfectly reproduce the appearance of someone from a person’s memory and print it onto a photo.

“This…” Shi Lu frowned at the photo.

One had black hair, one white. They looked very much alike. And both bore a strong resemblance to the Eternal Night Witch.

Shi Lu then remembered that Bai Muxue also looked like the Eternal Night Witch.

Could the Eternal Night Witch know a split-body technique?

Shi Lu couldn’t make sense of the situation.

Bai Yun, sitting next to Shi Lu, quietly peeked at the photo. She noticed that the shorter witch looked an awful lot like Bai Muxue.

“Why does she look so much like Muxue?” Bai Yun murmured.

“What?” Shi Lu looked up.

“Nothing, nothing.” Bai Yun waved her hand quickly.

‘Maybe it’s just a coincidence,’ Bai Yun thought.

Two people who looked alike but had no relation could exist, even if the probability was small.

“These two witches will be added to the witch archives later. Now, let’s talk about the Eternal Night Witch,” Shi Lu said.
